Volume 1 Chapter 37

After dropping off Minashima (the kind spiky guy) at the prince’s hut, I returned to the Base.
”The princess met with Nijou once, right? How was it?”
After taking a good rest, I decided to gather some info before heading out.
”Well… I think it was the same as always. I didn’t really like her, so I left quickly, so I’m not sure.”
Did the princess not get hypnotized because she left quickly? Or was it because she has a similar type of Magic that made it not work on her?
”…Was it judged that she wasn’t worth controlling?”
”Don’t say rude things.”
The princess lightly kicked me.
For now, I understand that she doesn’t just hypnotize anyone. Maybe there are conditions for it to work. For example, maybe you have to have some good feelings towards the user.
”Koushi. Are you really going alone?”
While getting ready in the Living Room, Mayuki came over.
”If the opponent uses mental Magic, it’s more efficient for me to go alone.”
”That’s true, but…”
”Trust me a little. Do I look that unreliable?”
”I’m just worried you might add another girl to your list.”
So that’s what she’s worried about.
”Just call me if it gets dangerous.”
”Yeah. I’m off.”
I’m happy that Mayuki is genuinely worried about me, but it feels like I’ve set off a death flag. I wish she could have seen me off in a lighter mood.

Relying on the Magic detection Necklace, I found the location of the trio. I prioritized the group with lower Magic, so if all goes well, I can take out the weaker ones first.
”Oh. It’s Hyakudou!”
Tatejima noticed me first and waved casually. I think he was the one with a bird brain, but I wonder if he remembers the trouble we had.
The other 2… Ashihara, who dislikes me, clicked his tongue, while Kajihira approached silently.
Kajihira Touki. He’s the captain of the Kendo Club and the boss of a delinquent group. He’s hot-headed and quick to fight, but his slicked-back hair gives him a tough look.
”Hey, Hyakudou. Looks like my buddy got helped by you.”
Kajihira speaks in a relatively calm way. It seems Tatejima told him about being saved. Maybe that’s why Kajihira and Ashihara are acting a bit more chill than usual.
”Is Hisakita not with you?”
”That guy’s dead. He was weak from the start, but who knew a girl would take him out?”
Kajihira has a mocking smile on his face.
”What a heartless guy.”
”Weak people get wiped out. It’s just how it is.”
To him, friends are just that disposable. Well… I might not be much different. I didn’t feel much sadness when Akatsuka died. If Mayuki died… would I even cry?
”By the way, we’re going to mess with some idols soon. Want to join us, Hyakudou?”
Tatejima suggests it casually, like stopping by a convenience store.
”Sounds good. I actually needed to see Nijou too.”
”Whoa, really!? If you’re helping, getting revenge on Minoya (Hisakita) will be easy!”
Tatejima looks genuinely happy and puts his arm around my shoulder. He’s such a simple guy. Kajihira seems a bit smarter, though, and looks wary of me.
”Listen, if you touch Maa, I’ll kill you.”
”…Maa?”
Who’s that? Are you kidding me?
”Seriously, you don’t know? It’s the nickname for Tōmi Marei. That’s what the fans call her, so remember it.”
Remember it? I don’t even know her. I’m not a fan or anything.
”Are you crazy or what?”
”Huh? …What did you just say?”
I’m staring at Kajihira, and Tatejima is laughing.
”Haha, you still get all weird when it comes to idols, huh?”
Tatejima gets hit right away.
Still, he keeps laughing, so he seems pretty tough.
”Anyway, I’m the one who’s going to get with Maa. If you even touch my Maa with a finger, I’ll kill you in the worst way possible.”
”You’re a fan, but you want to mess with Maa?”
”I’m the only one in the world allowed to do that. Maa is lucky to be chosen by me. Even if she didn’t like it at first, she’ll soon want me.”
This guy is just a crazy s*x offender.
”Hey, hey, who’s Hyakudou after? I hang out with girls a lot, so I have some experience…”
Tatejima lowers his voice like he’s sharing a secret.
”You should stay away from Shiragi, okay? Just a gut feeling, but she gives off a bad vibe. When you feel this chill, it usually means strong guys are lurking around.”
Hmm. I don’t plan to rely on this guy’s gut feeling, but I’ll keep it in mind as one piece of info.
”What kind of magic do the Nijou girls use?”
”Well, Nijou has fire magic, Shiragi has enhancement magic, and the idol girl has light magic. They’re all super strong. Actually, we just ran away.”
Tatejima answers, but… something’s off. There should be at least one person with mind control magic. Is it Shiragi? The boy that the princess controls also had enhancement magic. It’s possible for them to overlap, but it feels strange that only two of them are the same when the rest are so different.
But light magic seems suspicious too. Showing weird lights when brainwashing is a classic move.
”…I’ve decided. I’ll go after Shiragi.”
”Wow. As expected of Hyakudou. You’re a real challenger.”
Tatejima happily slaps my back. This guy seems to be the only one excited. Does he think I saved him, so he’s feeling extra friendly?
”Hyakudou, if you’re coming along, don’t hesitate or be all wishy-washy. If you start saying weak stuff, I’ll kick you out of the team right away.”
They treated me like a teammate until Ashihara.
I never said I would help… but whatever. As long as they misunderstand, I’m not in trouble. I’ll just let them use me.
What worries me a bit is that Nijou and the others might think I’m one of them. That could create unnecessary enemies. Still, I have my own goal of figuring out who put the idea in the president’s head. Right now, this situation is probably better for me.
If things go south, I can just take out Kajihira and the others from behind. That’ll solve everything.
