Baseka V2c4

Volume 2 Chapter 4

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

I gripped my double axes tightly and stepped in without hesitation.

A new longsword appeared out of thin air, and the full-armor person grabbed it.

With smooth moves, they countered my close approach and swatted away my Battle Axe.

They quickly deflected my follow-up attacks, avoiding a direct clash. It seemed like they were on high alert after losing a weapon once.

I sensed they were waiting for an opening against my big swings. They were dodging and carefully looking for a chance to strike back──definitely not someone to underestimate.

Wearing armor, they were used to fighting. Maybe they were a professional soldier or something. They seemed to have stamina, ready for a long fight. Even with the snow making the ground slippery, they held their stance well, showing no obvious weaknesses.

(This person’s different from the others.)

They weren’t relying on magic or specializing in one skill. They were experienced in combat, handling things calmly with minimal, efficient movements.

 This isn’t going anywhere.

I’ve never liked delicate mind games. I prefer a more forceful fighting style.

(After all, my strength is just brute force.)

I swung my Battle Axe sideways and stepped back to create some distance.

Kicking off the ground, I took a running leap forward. I lifted my double axes and brought them down with the force of my fall.

They completely read my move and dodged──but I didn’t care.

I slammed my double axes into the ground, shaking the earth with my brute strength. The full-armor person’s body shook, and for the first time, they lost their balance.

 (──Gotcha.)

Just as I was about to slice at their neck with certainty──I was shocked.

 My arm wouldn’t move.

Chains appeared from the air, completely restraining my left arm.

I quickly cut through them with my other Battle Axe and stepped back.

 (Is that their magic?)

As I kept an eye on the chains, the full-armor person suddenly vanished.

 It seemed they teleported somewhere.

 Their presence completely disappeared.

Should I think I let them escape, or should I feel relieved that I didn’t have to fight anymore? They were tough enough to make me hesitate.

 ”Hyakudou!”

The sound of crunching snow fills the air as the curly-haired girl, Tsurué, approaches. She’s a bit of a gal, so I’ve never really talked to her one-on-one.

”Are you alone? What happened to the other 3… the Takaizumi crew?”

”…I don’t know. We were supposed to escape together, but somehow I got separated from everyone…”

 ”What were you running from?”

”This weird armored guy was chasing me. Magic didn’t work on them, and they was super strong…”

So it was that full-body armor from earlier.

They were immune to magic, huh.

”Well, I’m just glad you’re okay. We can look for the other 3 with the Necklace──.”

I started to say, but then I realized the Necklace wasn’t working. Did it break during the fight? Or was it destroyed by magic?

 ”…What’s wrong?”

”The magic detection Necklace is down. …This is kinda bad.”

”Masato said something similar. He can’t use foresight magic either.”

 Can they really seal magic?

These Another World folks might be more troublesome than I thought.

If it’s affected by some kind of magic, maybe hitting the Necklace with a Battle Axe could fix it… but it could also completely break. I don’t know how delicate these magic tools are, so it’s probably best not to mess with it.

”Let’s head to Base for now. Hiiragi might have the same magic tool.”

It’s tough to search for people in this blizzard without any markers. We should probably wrap it up for now. Deciding that, I teleported with Tsurué to Base.

 *

 ”…Man, I’m a bit tired.”

As I sit down at Base, Tsurué looks a bit guilty.

”Ah… sorry. Did we make you come looking for us?”

”Yeah. Thanks to you, I had a rough time.”

I tried to tease her with a light joke, but she looked more down than I expected.

”Sorry. It’s my fault for wanting to go to the ski resort…”

I hesitate for a moment, wondering if I should say something encouraging. This time, it might be better for her to reflect on it rather than just getting a pep talk.

”Maybe I was too excited to play in the snow right after coming to Another World.”

I don’t think it’s a bad thing. But the reality is that 3 people are missing as a result. There’s no doubt it was a reckless action.

”…I’ll take responsibility and go look for everyone!”

 ”Calm down.”

I grabbed Tsurué’s arm to stop her as she tried to stand up.

 ”Hey…”

Tsurué, in an unstable position, started to fall toward me. I caught her to prevent her from getting hurt, and our eyes met.

 ”~~~~~~~!”

She let out a silent scream and started to struggle. Her uniform was getting messy, and it looked like her skirt might show too much.

”Seriously, calm down. If you rush out in this blizzard, you’ll just die.”

I raised both hands to show I meant no harm, and it seemed to help Tsurué calm down a bit.

”I’m sorry… But since it’s my fault, I have to take responsibility.”

”The choice to go was theirs too, so it’s their own fault. Takaizumi and the others should have said, ‘Let’s not go to the ski resort all of a sudden.’ They share the blame for not stopping it.”

I might sound cold, but I don’t think I’m saying anything wrong. If I were in Takaizumi’s position, I would have stopped Tsurué too. They’re taking it way too lightly.

 ”But…”

”I’m not saying to abandon them. I’m saying to stay calm. You don’t have to search alone; if you rely on your friends, you can find them more efficiently.”

Tsurué sat up and smiled a little.

”Hyakudou, you’re actually a pretty good guy.”

”I just don’t like one-man shows. If you want to win, you need to work together.”

”You’re like a sports guy even though you’re in the home club.”

”Even in games, teamwork with allies is important.”

As we talked, Tsurué seemed to regain her composure. After she finished laughing, she put on a serious face.

”Thanks. I hate to ask, but can you help me?”

”Yeah. But first, let me take a little break. I’m tired from fighting that weird armor.”

Tsurué looked at me in surprise, then shifted to an exasperated expression.

 ”…You fought that thing one-on-one?”

”It was stronger than I expected. I meant to kill it, but it got away.”

”We had no choice but to run away, even though it was 4 against one…”

Well, if Magic didn’t work, that’s how it would go. Tadahara apparently couldn’t even use foresight magic, so there was no way we’d win, no matter how many times we tried.

”If we find Takaizumi and the others safely, we gotta train them.”

 ”They’re gonna hate that.”

”You’re acting like it’s not your problem, but you should at least get in shape, you know?”

”Hey, I used to be a manager for the soccer team! I even ran with them sometimes!”

”Oh really? What’s your 100m time?”

 ”About 15 seconds? I think.”

”…I can’t believe it. A soccer team member with that time? What a disgrace.”

”Don’t compare me to a monster like you! I’m totally above average!”

Big sister would be speechless if she heard that. If I told her they ran 100m in 15 seconds, they might just ascend to the heavens right then and there.

 ”Ugh.”

”Hey! Don’t sigh right in front of me! Just so you know, Yūri is even slower, okay!?”

Mizui is slow because her chest is way too big. But then again, Tsurué isn’t small either. Considering there’s something heavy there, it’s kinda weird to think about it from a guy’s perspective…

”Sorry about that. I didn’t think about how hard it is to run.”

”…You’re trying to be vague, but it’s annoying how I can tell exactly what you’re thinking in an instant.”

”I do try to hold back, but honestly, the first thing that comes to mind is how hard it must be to run.”

”Yūri actually looks amazing when she runs. She’s bouncing all over the place, and even I can’t help but look at her chest.”

Tsurué seemed to be reminiscing about those times, speaking with a hint of nostalgia.

When a girl with big boobs runs, your eyes just get drawn to it. I try not to look on purpose so big sister doesn’t get mad, but that’s what they mean by eye candy. Honestly, just watching is enough to calm my heart.
