I’m turning right off the return route while looking at the auto-map.
Two red dots were closing in without hesitation, even at the fork.
If their target isn’t us, we can slip by, but I have a feeling that’s not the case.
We turned left down a narrow corridor and dashed into a spacious, empty room.
The space was about 30 meters square, with a ceiling height of around 6 meters, double that of the corridor.
It’s a bit larger than a typical dungeon.
”This is the ambush point! Rearguard and escort, in front of the exit! If anything happens, head left at the next fork to return to the route!”
Kijima-senpai used Support magic to boost our attack and defense.
Himeno took out the Shadowstride Cloak and wrapped it around herself.
”Kanon, come here and prepare the flare bomb!”
”Yes!”
Kanami-san is out of magic and won’t be able to fight for a while.
The 6 members of the rearguard and escort took positions in front of the back exit, ready to escape at a moment’s notice.
I want to believe that the 3 of us, me, Himeno, and Sogahara-senpai, will be fine, but we’re facing a group of monsters from the 3rd floor.
I can’t be too optimistic.
Kanon and I stepped forward side by side.
The red dot that was accurately following the return route changed course to the right fork I chose.
”They’re coming! Fire when I signal!”
”Yes!”
I stared at the red dot, timing my shot.
”Now! Shoot!”
”Flare bomb!”
As Kanon swung her staff down, an orange fireball shot out.
The timing was perfect.
The moment the fireball reached the corner of the corridor, I caught a glimpse of many leg-like things bursting out.
Insect-like?
In the next moment, a loud explosion and flames erupted.
”Keep firing!”
”Yes!”
It seemed like the blast stopped their feet for a moment, but when they moved again, they were at top speed.
During the pause, the Monsters turned the corner, and by the time Kanon fired the second shot, it was halfway down the long corridor.
I could see its spider-like long legs moving rustlingly.
For the second shot, I also launched a flare bomb along with Kanon.
Kanon’s power and range were stronger than mine, and my flare bomb couldn’t reach the end of the corridor.
Two fireballs hit the Monster directly and exploded.
”Alright! Kanon, fall back!”
If it’s a Monster from the 3rd floor floor, Kanon’s flare bomb should bring even the tough ones close to death.
But from the flames, 2 Monsters flew out energetically.
It’s not clear whether there is damage from the appearance.
Its appearance is a spider-shaped but it was not visible to insects.
The whole body is covered with slimy skin, and 6 long legs grow from its long, 2 meters long torso.
The torso, kept horizontal, is about my waist high, but the legs that extend directly above the torso are bent at joints about 2 meters high and extend to the ground.
On the tip of each leg there was something that looked like a 5 finger like a human.
The head that sits on the tip of the torso has no eyes, and the large mouth has sharp fangs.
The smooth back of the head is long, and looks just like the walnuts that live in tidal flats in the Ariake Sea, or the aliens that appear in the movie.
They move their 6 legs quickly and plunge in at an incredible speed.
”Himeno, give it a try!”
Himeno jumped out without hesitation.
When I take the first step and get a surprise, Himeno is far away.
”Shaaaaaagh!!”
One of the Imitation of Alien Fish, Warasubo, jumped into the room jumped up high.
With speed on it, Himeno attacks from 2 directions in the ground and in the air.
”Himeno!”
The distance is too wide so I can’t help my speed.
Dang!!
In my eyes, it almost seemed that Himeno had disappeared.
The next moment, when I thought Himeno had lowered her posture slightly, Himeno transformed into a black Shooting Star and slammed into the ceiling with a loud squeal.
The sound that echoed was the same as kicking the floor and slamming a wolf-like thing.
”Ghhh……Ahh…? “
The black spear Izayoi pierced the body of the Imitation of Alien Fish, Warasubo, and pinned it to the ceiling.
Himeno stood on the ceiling, looking down at the ground, stepping on the Imitation of Alien Fish, Warasubo.
”Wind God Sword (Fūjin Ken)!”
Sogahara-senpai overtook me at an incredible speed.
As they passed by the Imitation of Alien Fish, Warasubo, they cut off one of its front legs.
However, that blow also caused Sogahara-senpai’s sword to break off at the midpoint with a loud noise.
Suddenly losing one of its propulsion forces, the Imitation of Alien Fish, Warasubo, lost its balance and began spinning counterclockwise.
”Azure Thunder Fang!”
I ran towards the spinning Imitation of Alien Fish, Warasubo, and thrust the Kondou Spear into its body, but it was hard!
The spear only slightly pierced its skin.

Monsters in the dungeon turn into black mist and vanish when they die.
’This is probably a summoned beast.’
”Summoned beast? Does that mean someone summoned these things?”
’They are monsters not found in the data, but with that speed and toughness, even an expert-level party would struggle. The summoner’s level must be at least over 20.’
Only the ones who attacked Himeno before could do something like this.
It’s likely those from the clan called ‘Zeus’ who killed Kondou-senpai.
”Even the last incident felt like it could become a diplomatic issue, but they attacked so flamboyantly. Did they intend to kill all the students on this floor?”

Lugia-san and the others predicted that their goal was to eliminate students who could become our main force before they grew, but if the monsters just gather, they won’t attract suspicion.
Was their goal to assassinate the students who broke through?

It’s a bit unsatisfying, but for now, there’s no way to know more than this.
”Wow, if it were just us, we would have been wiped out. I’m really glad Tsuchimiya-kun and the others came.”
Sogahara-senpai is smiling with a relaxed expression.
This person is quite something too.
He cut off the legs of a monster that Kondou Spear couldn’t pierce with just a sword.
Himeno pulls out Izayoi, which was stuck in the stone floor, and stares intently at the spot where the monster disappeared.
Himeno seems to have her own thoughts on the matter.

Himeno responds to Sogahara-senpai’s murmur.

It sounds so obvious, but both me and Sogahara-senpai were left speechless with our faces twisted.
Since the Monster disappeared, everyone who was waiting in the back gathered around.
”Himecchi, you’re really amazing. So, what were those guys?”

Himeno glances at me.
”When we get back, I’ll report to Lugia-san. After that, we can only leave the judgment to the School management committee.”
”That’s right…”
Lugia-san has told me to keep quiet about the existence of other schools.
I feel like I could talk to Sogahara-senpai, but I’ll hold off on making any decisions for now.
”We were just watching from the back, but we got a crazy amount of exp points. Everyone who dived this time leveled up.”
Saegusa-senpai shrugs with a complicated expression.
”I leveled up too. It feels like a windfall. Thanks, Himecchi!”
Hano-san is putting her hands together and praying to Himeno.
The exp points for members who didn’t participate in the battle should be less than half, but Saegusa-senpai, Katsura-kun, and Kijima-senpai all reached level 6.
Higashimura-senpai and Hano-san also leveled up to 5.
”No need to linger. Let’s pull back quickly. Tsuchimiya-kun, are there any Monsters nearby?”
”I cleaned up on the way here, so there are few. There are no suspicious ones left.”
”Then, the vanguard will be Saegusa-kun, Katsura-kun, and Hano-kun. I’ll wish you good luck.”
”Understood!”
”Yeah! Leave it to me!”
”Let’s take a break at the rearguard. Our weapons are broken anyway.”
Sogahara-senpai pulled out the broken sword from its sheath and smiled wryly.
Did we change the vanguard to relieve the attack impulse of the leveled-up people?
I should learn this kind of care for Evold too.
On the way, I noticed that Himeno was quiet, but we managed to return without any issues, despite some fighting near the safe zone.

Sogahara-senpai agreed with Kijima-senpai’s words.
”Well, there’s no problem with going back. Just let us through, you guys!”
As Sogahara-senpai stepped forward and called out, the men turned around.
”W-what the hell… Vice President Sogahara!? Where did you come from!”
”No one was there when we came. Isn’t it better to wake up earlier?”
