Caught-Up-Crafter 12

Chapter 12 Overhunting!*

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

I reset the pitfall trap¹, infused a mana-thread cocoon² with energy, and tossed it over the opening before settling back into my chair underground.

”Um, is it really okay if we don’t keep watch from above?” Charlotte asked. She sounded anxious-probably because our setup had changed from earlier.

”I mean… if it makes you nervous, do you want to head into the tunnel, seal it off, and wait there? It’s safer than watching from the surface, and it’s zero effort.”

Don’t your legs get tired going up and down those stairs?

Charlotte fell silent, mulling over my question. She looked like she was wrestling with whether this was truly the “right” way to do things.

”It’s fine, really,” I reassured her. “We’ve neutralized the threats and secured a clear exit, right?”

”I… I suppose so,” Charlotte replied.

She didn’t move toward the tunnel. Instead, she stayed in her chair, finally looking relaxed. We fell into a rhythm: every time something fell into the pit, we’d take turns topping off the mana and waiting below. After doing this dozens of times, she let out a small sigh.

”You’re right, this is much less exhausting,” she said with a wry smile. “My legs would be giving out if we kept climbing those stairs.”

I don’t think she expected us to pull in this much of a haul. The rate at which that cocoon bled mana must have been the sweet spot, because the monsters were swarming. Even when the lure died down, the lingering scent in the pit kept them coming. It was happening so fast I considered just sitting here until the local population was wiped out.

”Yeah. Once we’ve ground through a few more and I’m a hundred percent sure the perimeter is clear, we should probably set up a station near the top of the stairs,” I said. “That way I can just use Storage³ to vacuum up the cocoons and the carcasses from above.”

”Ah… so even when we were down here, you were still prioritizing safety, Ibuki-sama?”

”Exactly. Even if the needle bed didn’t kill them instantly, as long as I’m watching, there’s no way I’d be too slow to back up fifteen feet before they could claw their way out of the trap.”

That was the truth. I was sitting here as a sentry, verifying that the traps were delivering guaranteed kills.

”But hey, putting that aside… our levels are hitting the roof, aren’t they?”

”Y-yes… I feel that rush of heat every time it happens. It’s much more intense than anything I’ve felt before,” Charlotte said.

”Right? It’s convenient for us, but if the vanguards of this world saw this, their jaws would hit the floor.”

”I know. I think some of them would actually fly into a rage out of pure spite,” Charlotte replied.

That would be the ultimate sore-loser move, but I could totally see it happening. Best to keep this little operation a secret. Not that I ever planned on sharing my trade secrets anyway.

”Still, this is great. At this rate, I won’t feel so drained when I use mana for crafting.”

”I’m sorry… I’m always relying on you for everything,” Charlotte muttered.

”Don’t be. I rely on you just as much, Charlotte. The only reason I can still act like myself in a place as soul-crushing as this is because you’re by my side.”

If I’d been hunted by those assassins alone and somehow survived, my heart would’ve turned to stone. I might have ended up plotting some horrific massacre. I didn’t give a damn about the people in the castle-they were just reaping what they sowed-but the townspeople were different. The old guy at the smithy, the grandmother at the inn, the ladies at the stalls… they were just normal people.

Actually, most of them were quite kind. I couldn’t bring myself to drag innocent bystanders into my mess. That said, as long as they choose to remain citizens of this kingdom, they’ll have to deal with the fallout once the monarchy is toppled. That’s their cross to bear. As we talked, Charlotte’s expression grew pained.

”Ibuki-sama… I want more power. I want to be a real asset to you,” she said.

”Wait, I just told you, you’re already a huge asset. Right now, you’re my most vital emotional anchor.”

”Uuuu… I will support you with everything I have! Tell me! What do I need to do?!”

”Like I said, just being here is enough… are you even listening?”

 ”But still…” she lamented.

It seemed she couldn’t forgive what had happened to me. Specifically, she couldn’t stomach what the Kingdom of Dole had done. It was only because Charlotte was here, getting angry on my behalf, that I could maintain any sense of inner peace.

”Besides, you say you want power, but your level is literally skyrocketing as we speak.”

”Huh?! Oh, right! If I keep this up, I might actually be able to hold my own against the combat classes… wait, hang on. I’m not… actually doing anything, am I?”

The realization hit her, and I couldn’t help but laugh. “Well, yeah! We’re basically just sitting here!”

Charlotte started giggling too. But in that moment, the light from above was eclipsed. A massive swarm of monsters plummeted into the pit. They slammed into the needle bed-splat, crunch, squish-bodies piling up so fast they were beginning to stack.

Shit, if this keeps up, the corpses will act as a cushion for the ones on top. I quickly activated Storage. I barely made it; the entire pile vanished into my inventory. The fact that they were successfully stored meant every single one was dead. I let out a long breath.

”Phew…” As I slumped back, Charlotte stood up in front of me, her eyes burning with resolve as if to shield me.

”Hey, I’ve said it before, but don’t push yourself. I absolutely won’t allow you to get scarred or hurt. I want to spare you as much pain as possible, okay?”

 ”But if I don’t-“

”No buts. We’ll just keep doing this and get strong together. You don’t have to suffer just to gain levels, you know?”

It was like any other tool. No matter how much effort you put into walking, you’ll never beat the distance a plane can cover in a fraction of the time. Effort doesn’t always equal results. If traps get the job done, then leveling up is no different. Sure, combat skills require practice, but even then, how you learn matters more than how much you suffer. I eventually managed to talk her down by explaining that having the sense to choose the most efficient path was the most important skill of all.

 ”T-then… what should I do?”

”Just stay by my side. Forever.”

I took her hand and said it like a formal proposal. Charlotte blinked, her eyes wide, before a visible wave of arousal washed over her.

”Y-yes… Then… then I’ll love you with everything I have, Ibuki-sama! I’ll become an even, even more shameless girl for you!”

”Haha, well, I’m definitely on board for that! Once we’ve secured our safety, I’d love nothing more than to just lose myself in you.”

”Muuu! Being with you is nothing but happiness, Ibuki-sama!”

She pouted for some reason and clung to my arm as she sat back down.

”Why are you acting grumpy about being happy?”

”Because there’s a limit! Every time I feel your love, I want so badly to do something in return, but I’m just so painfully aware of my own lack of abilities,” Charlotte said.

”Hmm. I think that’s just because you don’t trust me enough, Charlotte. You should know that you don’t need to do anything else. You give me so much happiness already. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve wanted to pay you back for it. Look, I know my skills are broken, so I get why you feel that way… but the skills are what’s wrong here, not you.”

She had been uncharacteristically stubborn, but after I spoke to her seriously, she suddenly wilted. “Th-that’s the problem! I feel like I’m just being spoiled and pampered all the time…”

”I don’t see it that way. But fine-if you want to help, don’t worry about combat. Focus on the mental side. If you think of something that would make me happy, just do it.”

”Yes! Tell me! What would make you the happiest?”

”Well, you’re already doing plenty… for starters, those morning b**jobs are incredible. And honestly, just the fact that you cook for me makes my day. Seeing you so ready to support me is something I’m always grateful for.”

I tried to focus on the other stuff to put her at ease, but she just cried out, “Aaan! Now look what you’ve done! Now I just want to support you even more!!”

 ”You’re such a handful!” I laughed.

”Don’t say that… that’s mean,” she whimpered, looking like the world was ending.

Good grief. This was going in circles, so I decided to use a little wicked play to snap her out of it.

”You really are a lot of work. Fine, if you’re that desperate to serve, then you can just stay down there and keep sucking my c**k while we wait!”

Slurp, slurp… lick…

A half-hearted b**job? Since when was that even a thing? I did a mental double-take, smiling wryly as I stroked her hair.

”Charlotte, you know I love even the parts of you that are a handful, right?”

 ”――!? Gulp, gulp, slurp! Haa… haa… ♡ Ibuki-samaaa… ♡”

My little wicked comment must have hit the mark, because she was suddenly dialed in. It was rare to see her so worked up that she started touching herself while she worked on me.

”Charlotte, take this cocoon, go juice it up, and toss it out. When you get back, you can do whatever you want with this d**k. While you’re enjoying yourself, I’ll take care of everything else.”

She scrambled to her feet, took the cocoon, and practically bolted out. I watched her go, thinking she was as cute as a devoted puppy, then leaned back and closed the pitfall door from my seat. In that moment, I realized my range had expanded significantly.

I was right. The effective area of my skills had grown terrifyingly large. I focused my Sensing on the flow of mana and realized I could map out everything for miles. Probably six miles, at least… So this is that famous isekai growth for you.

Damn, there are a lot of monsters. Even after the slaughter we’d just finished, the map was still crawling with them. No wonder they were hitting the lure so fast. I couldn’t help but smirk. This was going to be a leveling goldmine.

I knew I couldn’t touch the Hero Senior in a straight-up sword fight yet, but I wanted to reach a point where I could beat the hell out of anyone from this kingdom in close quarters. And then, I’d use my skills to absolutely bury them in despair.

While I was lost in thought, Charlotte returned and threw herself onto me, straddling my lap and sliding down. I felt myself being enveloped by her warmth.

Oh, right… I’d left it out the whole time. I’d been sitting here with a villainous grin on my face and my d**k hanging out. How embarrassing.

Despite the embarrassment, the sheer pleasure took over, and I pulled her close. She was still fully dressed, and as I buried her face in her chest, I could feel the soft, high-quality fabric I’d crafted for her. I did a damn good job on these clothes; they suited her perfectly. I decided to just sink into the sensation, enjoying the pillowy softness of her breasts.

 ”Ah… ♡ Ah… ♡ Ibuki-sama? Ufufu, you’re so cute… ♡ Ah! Yaaahn… ♡”

We were locked together in the chair, her moving rhythmically atop me. I wanted to reach for her breasts, but we were pressed too tightly together, so I settled for grabbing her firm, cute ass and pulling her down hard, trying to drive myself as deep into her as possible. As I ground against her, she let out a delighted little moan and arched her back.

”Charlotte… what should we do next?” I asked, trying to keep a shred of my sanity long enough to talk about the future.

 ”Nngh… ♡ After… we get the… supplies from town… you mean? Ahnn… ♡”

She didn’t stop moving for a second while she answered.

”Right. I was talking about what we should do for a place to live after this. If it’s going to be our forever home, I thought we should start talking it over now,” I said.

 ”—!? Ahhhhhh!” Charlotte cried.

”Hey? Are you even listening? I mean, I feel great too, but…”

”Because… you’re saying such wonderful things, master… Ahh! I’m coming again!”

She’s pulsing so hard inside. At this rate, even I’m going to…

 Alright, one more time!

”Charlotte! You naughty girl! Time for your punishment!”

I scooped her legs up, standing tall as I drove into her in a Standing Carry position.

 ”Eeeek! Ahhhhh! Ibuki, sama!”

At that exact moment, the trap triggered. I could see the monsters beginning to plummet from above. Charlotte noticed and cried out, but I knew from my Sensing skill that the numbers were manageable. I ignored the chaos and just kept thrusting.

 ”No… wait… Ibuki… stop… I can’t… Uaaaaaaaa!”

She looked like she didn’t even know what she was protesting anymore as she hit her limit. I let go, releasing deep inside her.

Splurt! Squish! Splat!

 ”Ah! Ah! Uaaaaaa… Haa, haa… no more… please…”

I sat back in the chair to enjoy the afterglow. Charlotte’s hips were still twitching, so I gently stroked her back until her breathing slowed and she drifted off. Lately, she’s been falling asleep the second she finishes. It’s so damn adorable I can’t stand it.

She’d been unusually clingy, but knowing she trusts me enough to show that side makes me happy. She left her country to follow me; I have zero doubts that she loves me. I’m starting to think it’s okay to just lose myself in her.

If that brings danger, I’ll deal with it. I’d rather face that than keep forcing myself to suppress these feelings.

With that settled, I pulled out a bed and tucked her in. I headed up the stairs and started tossing out Cocoon Orbs. I wasn’t done yet. There was no deadline, so there was no reason to head back today. I’d keep going until Charlotte said she wanted to leave or until I’d hunted this place clean.

I wanted it all. A future with Charlotte, my payback, and a real standing in this world.

Fired up, I scattered even more Cocoon Orbs around the area. Gather ’round, boys. Come on down.

As expected, the swarm started drawing in. Once the flow started, even the monsters outside the initial range got caught up in the pull. The entire surrounding area was heading straight for me.

Whoops. This is a bit more than I expected.

Well, whatever. As long as I kept hitting Storage, they were as good as dead. It wasn’t like the pitfall would stay open forever, anyway.

Soon enough, light broke through as the first wave started to fall. I watched the trap, spamming Storage. Luckily, I didn’t have to pick them off one by one. I just designated the whole zone; every dead monster was sucked in automatically. A few survived the initial impalement, but they were quickly crushed or dragged down by the sheer weight of the bodies falling on top of them.

But for some reason, the rain of monsters wouldn’t stop.

Why aren’t they stopping? They should have learned to avoid the pit by now.

I checked the surface with Sensing and realized the monsters in the back were pushing the ones in front. They couldn’t stop even if they wanted to; they were being shoved right into the hole. The monsters sniffing the lingering scent of Mana around the edges were acting like living walls, funneling the rest into the abyss.

Man, they’re still coming… But hey, no complaints. This was a gold mine.

I kept the Storage loop going, feeling the rush of constant level-ups. Charlotte was still twitching in her sleep; she was probably leveling up right along with me. Rest up, kiddo. They say sleep is the best medicine.

I kept at it until the sun finally dipped and the trap went pitch black.

I woke Charlotte up, expanded the hole, and set the house back down. I disabled the pressure plates and threw up a defensive wall. We ate by the light of the kitchen fire and finally crashed.

When I woke up the next morning, Charlotte was already performing her usual service. We were still deep in the cave, and with the trap closed, the house was bathed in a dim, moon-like glow.

I patted her head, and she let out a happy little moan.

”Morning. Looks like you slept like a log,” I said.

 ”I… I’m so sorry…”

”Don’t worry about it. A Charlotte who gets knocked out by s*x is a cute Charlotte.”

 ”Uuuuu… munch, slurp!

For some reason, she started working even harder. Usually, I’d insist on finishing inside, but this time I let her take it in her mouth. She swallowed every drop with a look of pure bliss.

”Ehehe… I got to take it all in my mouth today,” she whispered.

”Well, you whisper so much sweet stuff to me that I’m starting to relax. I guess it finally sank in that you’re mine, even if I don’t act like a possessive maniac about it.”

”I’ll say it a thousand times if I have to. I love you. Only you, for the rest of my life!”

”Me too, Charlotte,” I said, but she shook her head.

”That makes me so happy, but… you really shouldn’t say that. The fact that I get to monopolize you right now is a miracle. I couldn’t live with myself if I ruined your reputation. But… I think I can finally believe that you’ll at least keep me as a concubine. I’m so happy!”

She clung to me, but I really can’t get used to hearing that. I guess I’d be considered a failure of a man in town if I didn’t have the ambition to take more wives, but…

If I ignore the guilt I feel toward her, sure, I’m interested in other women. I just don’t want to hurt her. I’m still worried she’s just holding back, but if everyone else in this world says this is common sense, then maybe I’m overthinking it. Like she said, she’d probably just keep worrying if I stayed monogamous.

Well, if I happen to meet someone else naturally, I’ll think about it then. I’m still young enough that being a one-woman man shouldn’t be a problem yet.

”Oh, right. I was thinking of wrecking this trap and heading home soon,” I said.

”What!? You’re going to destroy something this amazing!?”

”Yeah. There are no monsters left around here, and it’ll just be a pain if someone finds it.”

It was unlikely, but it’d be harder to dismantle later, and I could always build another one.

”Besides, I don’t need any more materials from this area. I checked the logs – there were about five thousand monsters in Storage.”

”F-five thou… what happened while I was asleep!?”

I explained how I’d tossed out the Cocoon Orbs and ended up aggroing every monster in the region.

”Ehhh… five thousand frontier monsters in a single day…”

”I bet our levels have shot up like crazy.”

”Wait, even mine? But I was asleep…?”

”Yep. You were definitely reacting to the level-ups even while you were out cold.”

”Eeeee…” Charlotte just sat there, looking completely dazed.

I took her by the hand and started tidying up the site before we began the trek back to the village.

 Summary:

Ibuki and Charlotte run a smooth, low‑risk level‑grind by dropping monsters into a pitfall trap fueled with mana lures, stacking levels fast while they talk tactics, then slowly drifting into deep emotional and physical closeness. As the trap gobbles up five thousand beasts and their numbers spike, Ibuki thinks about how far his skills have grown and his cold hunger for revenge on the Kingdom of Dole, all while Charlotte pleases him. Later, they hash out their future living setup mid‑act, with Charlotte quietly stressing over her low status, and by the end they’re cleaned up, exhausted, and way more powerful heading back to the village.

 —

 Trivia:

 - Ibuki resets the trap from a safe underground position to save energy.

 - The ‘heat’ sensation is the physical manifestation of leveling up.

 - Ibuki specifically worries about dragging innocent townspeople into his conflict with the royalty.

 - His skill range (Sensing) has expanded to approximately ten kilometers (six miles).

 - He considers his current lifestyle ‘villainous’ due to his lack of shame and focus on revenge.

 - The term ‘Standing Carry’ is a localization of ‘Ekiben style’.

 - Ibuki harvested exactly five thousand monsters in one session.

 - Charlotte was leveling up even while she was asleep.

 - The ‘Cocoon Orbs’ act as an aggro-lure for monsters.

 - Ibuki has a ‘Sensing’ skill that allows him to gauge enemy numbers through walls/ceilings

 —

 Character Insight:

Ibuki is moving past his trauma by relying on Charlotte as a ‘mental anchor,’ yet his hatred for the Kingdom of Dole remains the driving force behind his desire for power. Charlotte suffers from impostor syndrome, feeling she doesn’t contribute enough compared to Ibuki’s broken crafting skills.

Ibuki is moving from a modern monogamous mindset to accepting the fantasy world’s polygamous ‘common sense’ to avoid making Charlotte worry about his reputation. Charlotte’s devotion is shown through her willingness to be a concubine rather than a primary wife.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The author uses the contrast between the gruesome ‘splat’ of monsters and the domestic/s*xual peace of the protagonists to emphasize Ibuki’s detachment from the world’s standard moral compass.

The ‘five thousand monsters’ harvest is a classic ‘Narou-kei’ trope demonstrating the protagonist’s broken efficiency.

Notes:

• Charlotte – Short, skinny late‑teen slave girl with messy brown hair, feline eyes, and a soft, slender body. Was an Ex‑Level 8 farmer, now Level 10 and bound to Ibuki, who she calls “Master” and calls herself his wife. Wears rags at first, then pretty clothes he makes, plus his bat‑wing hairband. Blushy, clingy, protective, and easily emotional, she follows him on runs, fights, and flights while always worrying if she’s useful enough.

• Ibuki – Broke high‑schooler from Earth who got tossed into another world with the “Crafter” class he first thought was useless—turns out it’s totally busted. Black‑haired, germaphobic, and low‑key bitter but sharp as hell. Uses Synthesis, Processing, and Inventory skills to survive, craft gear, and haul loot while exploring. Currently a Level 10 otherworlder, wielding a stone axe, traveling the frontier forest with Charlotte, and just trying to stay alive long enough to find a bit of peace.

• Hero – Ibuki’s upperclassman from Earth—summoned as the naive Hero with emotional, mentally fragile personality. Empathetic yet reluctant and inadequate-feeling, lacking survival instincts and political skills. Currently in despair and terrified by his situation.
