Chapter 189 The Tyrant Dragon and The Extinguishing Star
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Akeno, set up the barrier,” Rias commanded with elegant grace. “Yuto, Koneko, you two, go evacuate the civilians.”
She turned her gaze to the others. “Asia, everyone else, stay here and assist me in supporting Koaki.”
”Yes!” the group responded in unison.
The intense shockwaves lasted only a few seconds. Once Azazel regained his focus, his decades of combat experience allowed him to break free from Aki’s entanglement.
(I haven’t mastered the control of this boost yet… if I had, he wouldn’t have slipped away so easily.)
Finding he was outmatched in close quarters, Azazel seized the chance to create space.
”The hell you starin’ at?” Azazel spat, flapping his wings to ascend from the ground into the sky while unleashing a barrage of powerful magic to keep Aki at bay.
Terrifying energy spilled forth, the echoes of their clash rippling through the air in widening circles.
Rias watched Aki, counting the seconds in her heart with growing anxiety.
(The side effects of a Sacred Gear are brutal. If he pushes himself this hard, he might suffer permanent damage.)
She decided that if Aki didn’t stop within three minutes, she would intervene herself to force an end to the fight.
”Buchou, their power is on another level! I need assistance to hold the barrier!” Akeno shouted.
On the sidelines, Himejima Akeno’s face was deathly pale, sweat streaming down her skin. Simply shielding the others from the shockwaves was draining her mana reserves to the breaking point.
”Yuma, Rute, Vana—the three of you, go help Akeno with the barrier.”
As the battle intensified, Rias knew the pressure would only mount. She sent Amano Yuuma (Raynare) and the others to reinforce the barrier, keeping only Asia by her side, ready to heal Aki the moment the fighting ceased.
High above, Aki felt his impatience rising; he couldn’t land a killing blow. He had been holding back to protect the school, but that was no longer an option.
(Kill him? No, that’s impossible. But I have to at least wound him.)
If Azazel didn’t feel the threat of death, he would never abandon his plans. Aki’s eyes flickered as he calculated his next move.
”As expected of the Boosted Gear. To think it would give a High-Class Devil the combat power of a Demon King.”
Seeing Aki pause, Azazel hovered in the air, brushing dirt from his clothes. He sneered, “But how long can you hold that form? The last time I taught you a lesson, it seems I was too lenient. This time, I’ll make sure the experience is permanent.”
Rias watched on. Azazel wouldn’t kill Aki, but there were fates far worse than death.
Aki wasn’t one for pre-fight banter. He drew a deep breath, and finally, he made his decision.
”I, who am about to awaken, am the Heavenly Dragon who has stolen the principles of supremacy from God…
Mocking the infinite, worrying over the dream…
I shall become the Red Dragon of Supremacy…
And I will sink you into the purgatory of crimson lotus!
Juggernaut Drive (Tyrant Dragon)!”
Aki let out a low roar. His eyes erupted in an ominous red glow, and the already volatile power within him reached a boiling point.
Sensing the terrifying aura, Azazel’s face paled, and he veered backward. “Tyrant Dragon?! Are you trying to kill us both?!”
The ultimate tier of a Sacred Gear is the Balance Breaker. Aki hadn’t reached it, no matter how hard he tried.
But the Boosted Gear could force a temporary release of its sealed power—the Tyrant Dragon.
It granted god-like strength, but the cost was astronomical. Not only did it drain life force and slash his lifespan, but it stripped away his sanity.
Aki’s mastery was incomplete, and the dragon-armor that should have encased his body failed to manifest.
(Aki’s Tyrant Dragon… if he’s not afraid of death, he can push until his final breath, but he only has ten seconds.)
10…
”Penetrate. Flames of the Yiyan.”
Aki channeled the stolen divine power, igniting his steel dragon claws with the ultimate fire that consumed all things.
Once caught in these flames, nothing could extinguish them; even a god would be reduced to ash.
9…
Aki blurred into a red streak of light, closing the distance on the distant black speck that was Azazel.
8…
His steel claws tore through Azazel’s defenses, the red flames spreading across the fallen angel’s body.
7…
Azazel’s screams tore through the sky. He cycled through various Sacred Gears in a desperate bid to survive, but nothing stopped the burn.
6…
Abandoning his defense, Azazel focused all his remaining strength into a massive, terrifying beam of black energy, firing it directly at the maddened Aki.
5…
Aki was blown backward, the red glow in his eyes fading. He had overestimated himself; he had barely lasted five seconds—half of his limit.
As his consciousness slipped, the world went dark.
The Boosted Gear dissolved back into a glove, the divine power evaporated, and the eternal flames vanished along with it.
Azazel, who had been certain of his demise, was stunned. Clinging to his last breath, he staggered through the air toward where Aki had fallen.
”You’re not gonna walk away from this,” Azazel muttered.
He needed to confirm the kill. If the boy was alive, he would finish him.
Having faced the brink of total annihilation, Azazel would not pass up this opening—not even if it meant declaring total war on Rias.
If Aki recovered and managed another Tyrant Dragon, he wouldn’t be lucky enough to survive a second time.
When Azazel located him, Rias was cradling Aki in her arms, while the little blonde nun knelt nearby, weeping as she poured her power into healing his ravaged body.
”To think you’re still alive…”
Seeing Azazel approach, Rias gently set Aki down and stepped forward, shielding him and Asia with her own body.
”Rias… get out of my way…” Azazel growled.
A Demon King-class fighter is hard to kill; even in this state, Azazel was dragging himself back from the grave. But his own regeneration wasn’t enough to repair this level of damage.
Rias didn’t budge. She took a combat stance. “What do you want?”
”I may be severely wounded,” Azazel sneered, his eyes burning with rage, “but someone like you… you can’t stop me.”
”Is that so?” Rias replied coolly.
Her red hair whipped around her as a fierce resolve filled her eyes. A black-red mana, reeking of pure destruction, gathered at her chest.
”Darkness, eternal darkness, answer the call of the destroyer…”
As the chant began, Azazel felt a sudden, sharp dread in his heart. He didn’t care about the collateral damage anymore—he unleashed his remaining power in a desperate, overwhelming strike.
But it was too late.
”Extinguish Star!”
Rias shrieked the final incantation, and a sphere of ominous, destructive mana erupted from the magic circle at her chest.
The blast vaporized Azazel’s attack, continuing onward without losing momentum, reducing Azazel—and everything in its path—to cosmic dust.
After the release, Rias collapsed to the ground, utterly spent.
’Extinguish Star’ was her trump card—a concentration of mana that annihilated everything it touched, regardless of resistance or elemental weakness. Only someone with her specific destructive mana affinity could pull it off.
In his prime, Azazel could have dodged it or spent ten times the mana to cancel it out, but he was a shell of his former self.
Asia watched Rias collapse in panic. She was torn between the girl on the ground and the dying boy, and the little nun dissolved into fresh tears.
She sobbed as she looked at Rias. “Buchou, are you okay?”
”I’m fine,” Rias said, her voice strained but spirit intact. “How is Aki?”

Summary:
Aki engages in a desperate aerial battle against Azazel using the dangerous Tyrant Dragon mode. His strength fails him after five seconds, leaving him incapacitated and at the mercy of a wounded Azazel. Rias intervenes, sacrificing her own stamina to unleash her devastating signature move, the Extinguish Star, to stop the fallen angel.

Trivia:
The Juggernaut Drive is an incomplete, forced release of the Boosted Gear’s sealed power.
Tyrant Dragon mode provides god-like power but drains life force and consumes the user’s sanity.
The Extinguish Star ignores elemental resistances and weaknesses, focusing purely on total annihilation.
