Chapter 254 Milk-Sucking… No, Blood-Sucking Plant!
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Gasper had not wanted to attend school in the first place, but Kuoh Academy was offering far too much money for him to refuse. Living alone was difficult enough as it was, and revealing his true strength would only attract even more trouble. In the end, he accepted the academy’s request. He started in the middle school division, yet only a few days later he was back home, happily returning to the NEET lifestyle1. His plan had been simple: coast through school, graduate without incident, and then join the peerage of a certain devil from the Gremory household as agreed. Naturally, that peaceful dream lasted barely a month into high school before it was blown apart.
”Well, I’ll be off then. Thanks for having me,” Aki said with a polite nod.
Now that he had figured out where things had gone off the rails, Aki decided it was time to leave. He had no intention of forcing Gasper to change. Since his own arrival had already created a butterfly effect, more and more events were drifting away from the original story. Even so, if Gasper ever decided he wanted to leave his shut-in life behind and try something new, Aki would gladly lend him a hand. Consider it a small act of compensation. Gasper watched him go with a resentful look but said nothing. Even so, Aki’s sudden appearance had been like a stone dropped into a still lake, and the ripples refused to fade. Perhaps, just perhaps, he was beginning to grow tired of living the same isolated life day after day.
Leaving the crumbling mansion behind, Aki hurried back toward Kuoh Academy. Gasper and Tachibana Nao had already been cleared of suspicion, meaning someone else was responsible for the so-called milk-sucking… ahem, vampire incident. Once they had been ruled out, he could have walked away without a second thought. The victims were suffering from little more than mild anemia and would recover within a day or two. If the situation had truly been serious, the school would have stepped in already. Unfortunately, he had given both Rias and Sona Sitri his word, which meant the investigation still had to continue.
By the time he finished searching Gasper’s residence, darkness had settled over the town. After checking the time and confirming he still had roughly two hours before the next reported attack, Aki abandoned any pretense of detective work and cast a detection spell across the entire campus. The method was crude, but it was effective. He was not the sort of genius who unraveled mysteries through brilliant deduction, and this case was hardly some elaborate puzzle to begin with. Most people ignored it because the school did not care, while the victims themselves were not particularly bothered by it. Combining the information gathered from previous incidents, he quickly discovered a strange plant hidden within the forest behind the abandoned school building.
”Doesn’t look like much, does it?” Aki muttered as he folded his arms.
Standing at the edge of a clearing, he studied the enormous plant rooted there. Its unnatural presence was impossible to miss amid the surrounding forest, but what caught his attention far more was the powerful mana surging through it. Just as he was considering whether to destroy it immediately, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed through the silent woods. Slipping behind a nearby tree, he waited as the source of the noise emerged.
Two beautiful girls wearing pajamas stepped into the clearing.
Aki recognized them as students from Kuoh Academy, most likely residents of the dorms. Their eyes were vacant, their movements stiff and unnatural beneath the influence of a spell. As his gaze swept over them, he quickly noticed another detail. Just as the rumors claimed, every victim seemed to be exceptionally well-endowed.
The girls stopped in front of the strange plant, and the massive thing suddenly stirred. Thick roots twisted beneath the earth while its branches transformed into writhing tentacles, their tips splitting open into three-petaled maws. At the very top, the enormous rose bloomed wide and revealed a grotesque yellow head. It was probably supposed to resemble a dragon, but the first word that came to Aki’s mind was lizard. Towering nearly two stories high with a trunk as thick as an ancient tree, the thing looked every bit like a monster. Despite its appearance, however, it showed little hostility as two vine-like tentacles slowly extended toward the entranced girls.
Curious, Aki pulled out his phone and began recording.
There was no immediate danger to their lives, so he saw no reason to rush in. The bizarre yellow-headed creature was far more interesting. It was obviously artificial, and the traces of magical synthesis woven into its body were impossible to miss. More importantly, something about it stirred a vague memory at the back of his mind. Destroying it would be easy, but unless he found whoever created it, there would simply be an endless supply of these synthesized milk-sucking… blood-sucking monsters.
Covered in slime, the flower-like mouths attached themselves to the girls’ generous chests and greedily sucked at the sensitive buds hidden beneath their pajamas. The barefoot girls tilted their heads back as soft whimpers escaped their lips, their pale skin gradually flushing with warmth. At the same time, a crimson energy flowed from their bodies into the monster. The process did not take long. Once the tentacles released them, they turned around and slowly wandered back the way they had come.
With the evidence safely recorded and the bystanders gone, Aki finally decided to get rid of the thing. His curiosity could wait; allowing it to continue growing was a bad idea. Against a target this large, his magic was particularly effective. Although the creature showed no real killing intent, and even seemed content to defend itself rather than attack, its resemblance to a tentacle monster was enough to seal its fate.
Watching it, Aki could not help thinking about magical-girl shows and certain infamous monster tropes.
Was the Bitter Parent Template planning to replace the Yellow-haired Punk with things like this?
Shaking his head, he dismissed the absurd thought. No, surely “Bitterer” and “Tentacle Monsters” did not belong in the same script. The creature itself was genuinely powerful, sitting at roughly A+ rank with immense vitality to match. Anyone lacking S-rank strength—or at least a coordinated team of A-rank fighters—would have struggled against it. Unfortunately for the monster, its opponent was Aki.
Five minutes later, a torrent of deep-blue mana reduced the creature to withered leaves and shattered branches. The hideous yellow dragon head crumbled into ash and scattered across the clearing.
Aki intended to track down its creator immediately, but before he could even begin following the lingering mana traces, a sleazy-looking devil with a silver broom-shaped hairstyle suddenly appeared.
”Ah! My dream… it’s shattered!” the devil wailed.
The strange devil stared at the pile of debris as though he had lost something precious, muttering under his breath while mourning the remains.
”Hey, you’re the one who made this?” Aki asked.
The silver-haired devil glanced at him briefly before returning his attention to the wreckage.
Aki blinked. “I killed it. You don’t want revenge?”
”I can’t beat you, bro.”
Then he went right back to mourning.
”Uh…”
After sensing the devil’s strength—or rather, lack thereof—Aki found himself at a loss for words. The man was nothing more than an ordinary low-class devil. Once he finished grieving, he immediately began rummaging through the remains, carefully collecting materials and recording data. Curious about how someone around B-rank had managed to create an A+ monster, Aki allowed him to continue. Since the devil was clearly weak, he was not worried about any hidden tricks.
Thirty minutes later, Aki followed him into a basement laboratory.
Rows of bottles and jars lined the walls, while an assortment of sophisticated instruments filled the room.
Unable to contain his curiosity, Aki looked around and asked, “Devils do research now?”
”Pfft.”
The silver-haired devil scoffed and puffed out his chest with exaggerated pride.
”This is alchemy. Far more advanced than whatever ‘research’ you’re imagining.”
”Pretty sure that monster used more than just alchemy, though.”
Aki knew little about alchemy, but there was far too much advanced equipment packed into the room for him to believe that explanation completely.
