Chapter 268 The Peace Contract and the Problem
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Aki was, of course, in favor of peace. He had never been a battle-crazed warmonger, nor did he harbor any deep hatred toward the Three Factions. More importantly, his long-term goal remained unchanged—he intended to obtain the bloodline talents of every race.
”I’m all for peace, obviously. But is it really going to be that easy?”
His gaze moved between Vali and Shemhaza before settling on the latter.
”Leaving the others aside, are the Fallen Angels really going to let things end here?”
The death of Azazel might have been quietly set aside for now, but the problem itself had never disappeared. Azazel had been one of the most influential figures among the Fallen Angels, while Vali Lucifer—the young man standing before him—had been personally raised under his wing. As for Shemhaza, he had been Azazel’s longtime companion for countless years.
No one in the room was slow-witted. The meaning behind Aki’s question was immediately understood, and attention naturally shifted toward the Fallen Angels.
Shemhaza adjusted his glasses, clearly choosing his words with care.
Before he could speak, Vali cut in.
”Azazel took me in. Without him, I might never have survived long enough to awaken my power.” His voice remained calm, though there was an edge beneath it. “But I’ve spent years doing the Fallen Angels’ dirty work. I’ve already paid back what I owed.”
Having grown up in a family defined by madness, abuse, and tragedy, Vali had matured far earlier than most. More than anyone, he understood that Azazel’s protection had never been simple charity. The Governor General had offered shelter to the future White Dragon Emperor, while Vali had become fully tied to the Fallen Angels in return.
When Azazel died, thoughts of revenge had crossed his mind.
In the end, however, he had let himself be restrained.
”Cough, cough…”
Shemhaza cleared his throat before smoothly taking over.

”As Azazel’s friend, his death fills me with both sorrow and anger. However, peace was also one of his wishes. To honor that wish, we will keep our resentment under control.”
The answer sounded flawless.
Perhaps a little too flawless.
If Aki had not known that the man had a Devil wife and two children, he might have found the performance convincing.
”I trust everyone here, of course,” Aki said with a grin. “But what happens if a few rats start getting ideas inside your organizations?”
Michael answered almost immediately.
”Please rest easy, Red Dragon Emperor. If such rats appear, feel free to dispose of them however you see fit. Not only will nobody be held responsible, we would be grateful for your assistance.”
The Three Factions had been dealing with internal troublemakers for years. Anyone who opposed the peace initiative was a threat to the future their leaders were trying to build. Under those circumstances, removing such people would be considered a favor rather than a crime.
”Fine. Then I have no further concerns.”
With both the Fallen Angels’ position and Vali’s stance confirmed—and with an unofficial license for self-defense secured—Aki was satisfied.
”Then, once the Peace Contract is signed, the next issue will be the continuation and survival of our races.”
Shemhaza removed his decorative glasses, and his expression shifted into a polished smile.
”In that case, has the Red Dragon Emperor considered visiting Fallen Angel Headquarters? We have many beautiful young Fallen Angels who are extremely curious about your Dual Cultivation Ability.”
”Pass.”
Aki rejected the offer without the slightest hesitation.
The Fallen Angels lacked top-tier female powerhouses. There was no reason for him to make a purely charitable contribution. The Angels might have been another matter entirely, but the Devil side already had two women who drew far more attention: Grayfia, who had accompanied Sirzechs, and Serafall, the only woman seated at the negotiating table. Both stood at the very peak of Devil society.
”What a shame.”
Shemhaza sighed dramatically before tossing the glasses aside.
”Now then, shall we sign the contract?”
”Wait.” Aki raised a hand. “Before that, I have a question for Lord Michael.”
His impression of the gentle Archangel was fairly positive, and his tone reflected that respect.
”Of course. Please ask whatever you wish.”
Aki glanced toward Asia.
”Why was Asia exiled?”
The reaction was immediate.
Before Michael could answer, the blonde former nun let out a small gasp.
Ever since arriving and seeing Michael, something about her expression had felt off. Aki had noticed it almost at once, and he understood why. Since she could not bring herself to ask the question herself, he would ask it for her.
”Why was Asia, who believed in God so deeply, cast out?”
Michael showed no sign of offense.
Instead, he offered a calm and measured explanation.
”Since God’s disappearance, only the System remains. It is the foundation that supports our blessings, miracles, and future. Because of that, anything capable of damaging faith or undermining the System must be handled carefully.”
The meaning was obvious.
Asia possessed the power to heal Devils. Even if she never intended harm, that ability alone could shake the faith of believers who learned about it.
Aki also understood what Michael left unsaid.
The Angels depended on the System for their future, and anything that threatened its stability was treated as a danger that could not be ignored.
After hearing the explanation, the lingering unease on Asia’s face finally faded. In its place appeared the simple, innocent smile she always wore.
”Lord Michael…” She glanced gratefully toward Aki before bowing lightly. “Although I still have some regrets after spending so many years with the Church, I am very happy with my life as a Devil now.”
She had never hated the Church.
She had never blamed God.
What had truly troubled her was the question that had never been answered.
Now that she finally understood, she could move forward without looking back.
Michael lowered his head respectfully.
”Thank you for your understanding.”

Watching the exchange, Aki found his opinion of Michael improving even further.
Meanwhile, Shemhaza’s gaze briefly drifted toward Amano Yuuma—Raynare—and her two companions.
As Azazel’s former subordinate and the current Governor General, he knew perfectly well what had happened to them. Even so, he wisely chose not to comment, acting as though he had noticed nothing at all.
Just as the atmosphere in the room finally began to ease and the signing of the Peace Contract seemed moments away, a violent tremor tore through the villa.
The floor lurched.
This was no ordinary earthquake.
Yuuto and Tsubaki barely managed to stay upright. Asia, whose combat ability was the weakest among those present, would have fallen outright if Aki had not caught her.
”An attack?”
The barrier surrounding the villa shattered.
Outside, the Angel Pawns and Fallen Angel Pawns stationed as guards had already clashed with a wave of incoming enemies.
Shemhaza strode to the window and looked up at the enormous magic circle spreading across the sky.
”Magicians?”
Michael joined him, his brow furrowing.
”Judging by their appearance, they seem to be biological-alchemy clones.”
Aki studied the attackers.
Every enemy wore a cloak, but their visible features revealed an obvious pattern. Like the Pawns fighting outside, they appeared almost identical, as though they had been mass-produced. Their strength was nothing remarkable either, hovering around B-rank.
There were two distinct models.
One was based on an elderly man.
The other was modeled after a voluptuous, white-haired female mage.
Although their faces remained hidden beneath their cloaks, their figures were impossible to mistake.

Summary:
Aki successfully navigates a delicate peace negotiation between the Three Factions, securing a self-defense mandate while learning the truth behind Asia’s exile and the fragility of the Angelic System. The tension is momentarily relieved by diplomatic breakthroughs before a sudden, violent assault by mass-produced alchemical clones disrupts the villa. The scene ends with the protagonists identifying the attackers and preparing for an unexpected skirmish.

Trivia:
The Fallen Angels utilize a system of reincarnation similar to the Devils’ Evil Pieces, using playing cards.
The System in the Angel faction is sustained by the faith of believers, which is why those who discover God is missing are exiled.
Shemhaza, as a former Vice Governor General, possesses knowledge of Raynare and her companions’ past, but chooses to remain silent.

• Yuuto – A high-standing blonde male academy student and A-Rank Knight in Rias Gremory’s Devil peerage, this analytical, speed-based swordsman creates magic swords.
