The first light of dawn was just beginning to stir when Aki pushed away Yubelluna and Minami, who were holding onto him tightly.
After a quick rinse in the bathroom, he left the western villa and headed toward the Phoenix clan’s main residence.
Even though he had risen early, many of the servants were already deep into their morning tasks. Along the way, he was greeted by a procession of adorable, lovely maids; Aki simply smiled and nodded in return.
The Underworld was naturally darker than the Human World; even at daybreak, the rays of the rising sun seemed somewhat weak.
Fortunately, it was mid-July, and the summer noon sun helped make the environment feel a bit more pleasant. Devils certainly preferred a darker environment, but that couldn’t be helped—his family line wasn’t limited to just that of a Devil.
He spent the morning playing in the garden with Ravel. After finishing lunch, the two of them rested for a while in the shade prepared by the servants.
”Aki, did the treatment go well last night?” Ravel asked, her tone reflecting the polished class and elegance of her high-society upbringing.
Ravel’s rapport with Aki was becoming increasingly natural. Though she was the youngest daughter of the Phoenix clan, she was also the only daughter.
Aside from her sharp, tsundere tongue, she possessed all the bearing and manners expected of someone in her position. She was, in a small way, a younger version of Rias. And, well, not just in temperament—her figure was following suit.
Among her peers, Ravel’s figure was quite impressive, but compared to Rias or Himejima Akeno, she still had some growing to do. Aki preferred this version of Ravel; it made their interactions far more relaxed.
There is a saying: Admiration is the furthest thing from understanding.
If Ravel had continued to look at him with pure admiration, he would have found it difficult to engage with her.
”It went very smoothly. After I treat Karlamine and Siris tonight, only Xue and Isabella will remain,” Aki said in his clean, neutral American English.
Since Xue and Isabella had previously held the position of Rook, their bodies were the strongest among all the girls. Combined with Xue’s traditional “Chinese beauty” personality, he had saved them for last.
Ravel nodded, hesitating for a moment before asking, “Aki, have you ever thought about taking Xue and the others into your Peerage (眷属)?”
”I have, but I decided against it.”

But the others weren’t quite there yet, and Aki didn’t have enough vacancies to accommodate everyone. Selecting only a few to provide them with a brighter future than their original path would be too cruel to the ones left behind.
Though the world was cold and brutal—a reality Aki couldn’t change, nor did he have the inclination to try—he didn’t want to add fuel to the fire. By selecting none of them, he allowed them to stay together and wait for whatever opportunities might arise.
With the rapport and tacit understanding they had built over the years, and with his treatments to keep them in good health, they wouldn’t exactly be living in luxury, but they wouldn’t have a difficult time, either. If all went well, in a few years, they would all be fully cured, and their strength would see a massive surge.
After hearing Aki’s explanation, Ravel gave her full approval.
”Indeed. If possible, I also hope they can remain…”
The blonde noblewoman stopped mid-sentence, as if she had suddenly remembered something. She blinked her large, beautiful eyes. “Aki, speaking of which, once I breach into the ranks of High-Class Devils, I’ll be able to have my own Evil Pieces.”
Aki instantly understood her meaning.
Ravel was currently A-rank—the equivalent of a middle-class Devil—but she was only one step away from S-Rank High-Class status. As a scion of one of the Four Great Devil families, just like Rias, she would naturally be allotted her own Evil Pieces once she reached that level of power.
However, Ravel had never bothered with cultivating a Peerage before; she hadn’t even been particularly diligent with her own cultivation, so it hadn’t occurred to her until now.
”That’s a great idea. I’m all for it,” Aki said, skipping the formalities. “Even though you’ll still be missing a Bishop, with the Phoenix clan’s talent and the excellent teamwork Yubelluna and the others have already developed, you could form a strong combat unit immediately.”
It wouldn’t just be strong—should nothing go awry, Ravel could potentially replace the position Riser Phoenix once held in Rating Games. If she had the chance to add another powerful Bishop, she might even prove more powerful in the games than Riser ever was.
”Alright, then it’s decided,” Ravel said with noble grace.
As Aki’s Queen, Ravel felt this was the best path forward. It not only resolved a lingering concern but also added a capable fighting force—and some bed-warming maids—to her King’s side.
Although the blonde, twin-tailed noblewoman had a kind nature, due to the realities of their world, she couldn’t exactly treat Yubelluna and the others as her equals. When they were under Riser Phoenix as Bishops, they had served at her command, essentially functioning as maids.
Now that her childhood dreams had been stirred by Aki, while her goals had shifted, her treatment of her Peerage remained the same as before.

Aki chuckled. That Bishop would, in the end, be one of his women as well; if he could pick someone who fit his tastes, that would be ideal.
