Chapter 32 The Investigation

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

After Shinra Tsubaki’s explanation, Hakuda Tetsuya recalled an incident from not too long ago.

”Shinra-senpai, it really wasn’t me. During the time the rumors first started,” Hakuda continued, “someone found me and asked me to write a program.”

A cold light flashed in Aki’s eyes. “What kind of program?”

”Just a script. Its main functions were IP proxying, automatic account creation, and auto-replying and posting.”

Hakuda honestly confessed everything. He never imagined that the networking skills he took so much pride in would be used by someone else—or that they would land him in such a miserable state.

”Do you know who contacted you?”

Hakuda shook his head. “I don’t. They reached out through email.”

”You agreed to write a program based on a single email?” Aki asked.

”No, they sent a deposit first. After I emailed the program over, they paid the remaining balance.”

”Do you still have the transaction records?”

Hakuda looked troubled. He had the records, of course, but he wasn’t keen on showing them to anyone else.

”What’s the matter?” Aki threatened. “After everything that’s happened, you’re still trying to hide things?”

Hakuda grit his teeth and decided to lay it all on the line. He had already revealed most of his secrets anyway.

”I can provide the transaction records and the email correspondence. I can even help you investigate,” Hakuda said. “But I have one condition.”

 ”Let’s hear it.”

”Act like you never heard the other things I mentioned earlier.”

Aki remained expressionless, catching the eyes of Himejima Akeno and Shinra Tsubaki. He had no personal interest in justice; nobody had stepped up to help him when he was the one suffering.

After a brief exchange of looks, Shinra Tsubaki spoke up. “The student council can’t simply ignore what we’ve learned.”

Hakuda fell silent, his expression souring.

”However, I can guarantee that your actions won’t be made public.”

Hakuda’s face brightened slightly. “Will I be expelled?”

Tsubaki swept a glance over him. “Since you’re asking that, I assume what you did was quite serious.”

”Vice President, I just stole some private photos online to sell,” Hakuda said with a pained expression. “That’s not that serious, is it?”

”What about the drugging and the stolen underwear?”

Hakuda hesitated but eventually confessed the truth. The target of the drugging and the underwear theft was the same girl. She was just an ordinary person. Hakuda had fallen for her, but the feeling wasn’t mutual.

After his pursuit failed, he turned to malice. He used drugs to knock her out and then committed a series of unspeakable acts. Once he was finished, he secretly made off with her underwear.

He had been discreet and used supernatural powers to cover his tracks. To this day, the girl had no idea who had violated her. Tsubaki and Akeno looked at Hakuda with pure loathing, barely resisting the urge to strike him. As women, they detested such crimes.

Aki felt the same disgust. He wondered if that girl had someone she liked; if so, this was a classic NTR¹ scenario where the boy she loved was the victim.

Aki made a point to ask for the girl’s name. Once he confirmed she wasn’t a character from his memories or someone he knew, he managed to suppress the urge to castrate Hakuda then and there.

”Scum,” Aki spat. “We’ll deal with that later. We’re going to find the victim and decide what to do based on her response.”

”Now, hand over those transaction records and emails. Otherwise, the whole school will hear about this tomorrow.”

Hakuda tried to bargain further, but Akeno’s expression turned icy as a spark of golden lightning flickered in her palm.

”Would you like to find out what happens?” she asked.

Sensing her undisguised killing intent, Hakuda began to tremble. He hurriedly blurted out his transaction and email account details, terrified that a moment’s delay would earn him a blast of lightning.

Aki quickly secured the email and remittance accounts of the suspected mastermind.

”Tsubaki-senpai, can we track this person’s identity using these accounts?”

”It should be possible. This happened so suddenly that they likely didn’t have time to forge new accounts.”

”Even if they are fakes, I can help you find them,” Hakuda offered, hoping to lighten his punishment.

Aki ignored him. Regardless of whether they needed his help, there was no way Hakuda was staying at Kuoh Academy after what he’d done.

”I’m taking him with me,” Tsubaki said. “Once we confirm the identity behind the accounts tomorrow, we’ll take the next step.”

”I’ll go with you. I need to stop by the nurse’s office.”

Aki followed Tsubaki out. Besides needing treatment, he wanted to spend more time with her to deepen their bond and secure the Mirror Reflection talent and Intermediate Demon Bloodline².

As they walked, Aki rubbed his chin in thought. There were still two people on his suspect list. If the accounts belonged to one of them, the case would be closed. If it was someone else, things were going to get complicated.

After having his wounds treated, Aki returned to the Occult Research Club. His fight with Hakuda had taught him that he wasn’t as strong as he’d thought. He had grown too used to bullying ordinary delinquents. He had almost lost to a fellow student, let alone that high-year stray yōkai.

He needed to prioritize gaining actual combat experience and technique alongside his stats. If he’d been more experienced, Hakuda wouldn’t have had the chance to use a second-stage transformation.

Aki entered the clubroom and immediately spotted a white-haired girl. After spending so much time around girls like Rias and Akeno, it was impossible not to notice the small, silent girl.

”Uesugi, you’re just in time,” Rias said, her eyes brightening. “I was just about to send Akeno to the infirmary for you.”

 ”Why?”

”To check on you, of course.”

Rias pulled Aki into a sudden embrace. “You’re a candidate for my peerage now. As your master, how could I not care?”

Aki felt the softness against his cheek and decided not to struggle. He wasn’t even a servant yet and he was already getting this treatment. If he actually joined, they’d probably end up sleeping in the same bed.

He recalled that the Gremory family was famously affectionate toward their servants. Sirzechs Lucifer’s wife was his own Queen, after all.

Aki steeled his will and endured the sensation for a long moment before finally pulling away from Rias’s chest. If this kept up, he really might give in and agree to join her peerage.

 Summary:

Aki and the student council interrogate Hakuda Tetsuya, who confesses to creating a malicious script for an anonymous buyer via email. During the questioning, Hakuda reveals he drugged and violated a female student, inciting deep loathing from Tsubaki, Akeno, and Aki. Akeno uses her lightning to coerce Hakuda into surrendering his digital accounts, providing a lead on the mastermind. Aki reflects on his lack of combat experience after struggling against Hakuda’s transformation. Upon returning to the clubroom, Aki meets a mysterious white-haired girl and is smothered by Rias’s affection. He realizes the Gremory family’s doting nature might eventually convince him to join her peerage.

 —

 Trivia:

 - The ‘two people on the suspect list’ suggests Aki has already narrowed down potential enemies, indicating a broader mystery.

 - Aki’s realization that he ‘almost lost’ foreshadows a training arc or a need to evolve his combat techniques beyond simple stats.

 - The mention of Sirzechs Lucifer and Grayfia establishes the high-level power dynamics of the world Aki is entering

 Character Insight:

The relationship between Aki and Rias deepens through physical proximity and Rias’s ‘master’ persona, while his respect for the student council is tempered by their necessary professionalism compared to his raw disgust for Hakuda.

 —

 Lore And Worldbuilding Context:

Introduction of ‘Peerage’ candidates, the affectionate nature of the Gremory lineage, and the existence of ‘Stray Yōkai’ and ‘Second-stage transformations’ in the school setting.

 TL Notes:

NTR (Netorare) is kept as it is a specific genre trope relevant to the character’s internal monologue about ‘doujin worlds’.
