Aki didn’t really know how hard magic was to learn, but it didn’t matter—he had his Dual Cultivation¹ ability. If his luck held, he’d nail it on the first try. Forget three days; he could probably master it in three hours.
The catch, of course, was that he needed a beautiful girl who could actually use magic—and one who was willing to go a round with him.
”Ahem…”
Rias cleared her throat, snapping out of her daze and sliding back into her mature big sister persona.
”Actually, there’s no need to rush the magic stuff,” she said. “There isn’t much of a practical difference between C-rank and D-rank anyway.”
She looked at Aki with a hint of a suggestion. “Rather than magic, focusing on your combat skills would probably give you a much faster boost in overall power.”
Compared to races like Youkai or Pure-blood Demons, Aki’s physical constitution wasn’t exactly god-tier, but he still held the upper hand in most situations. Even a Mixed-blood like Shinomura Yuki couldn’t match Aki’s physical durability. His Basic Body Mastery didn’t just give him perfect control over his muscles; it had specifically reinforced them.
”Yeah, I’ve thought about looking into Karate or some other fighting styles,” Aki replied. “But the few dojos I checked out were… disappointing. The results are too slow, and they’re a massive time sink.”
Commercial Karate and Judo dojos started from the absolute basics, and they mostly taught sport moves for competitions. Learning the actual lethal essence that worked in a real fight took years. And, of course, it took a lot of cash. Literature is for the poor, but martial arts are for the rich—the old saying still held true. Between the tuition and the sheer cost of nutrition needed to maintain that kind of training, it was a heavy investment.
”If you want to fast-track your combat skills, there’s a much more brute force way to do it,” Rias said, her voice dropping into a mysterious tone. “I just don’t know if you have the stomach for it.”
”And that would be?”
”As it happens, we have a close-quarters specialist right here.”
Rias glanced at the white-haired loli and smiled. “If you spar with her a few times, your combat level will skyrocket.”
Aki rubbed his chin, deep in thought. Taking a beating while getting expert guidance—that was basically a 2x XP boost. The only problem was that Toujou Koneko seemed to have that Super Strength trait. He wasn’t sure if he could actually tank her hits.
”President… you don’t mean that little girl, do you?” Aki asked, deciding to play his Inner World Newbie persona to the hilt. “Actually, I’ve been meaning to ask—why is there a kid in the club anyway?”
Rias beckoned the white-haired girl over. “Koneko, come here. This is Uesugi Aki, the one I mentioned. He’s our future partner.”
Toujou Koneko gave Aki a curt, indifferent nod. “Hello.”
”Hey there.”
The girl was tiny and looked entirely unimpressive, but Aki was fixated on the white cat ears on her head. Seeing them on a screen was one thing, but seeing them in person? He had an overwhelming urge to reach out and see how soft they were.
As if sensing the predatory curiosity in his gaze, Koneko took two wary steps back, eyeing him with suspicion.
”Aki, this is Toujou Koneko. She’s my servant—her piece is the Rook².”
Ignoring Koneko’s silent protest, Rias reached out and hauled her over. With Aki in her left arm and Koneko in her right, she pulled both their heads down, burying them unceremoniously into her massive cleavage.
”We’re all family now, so don’t be so formal!” Rias said, giving her chest a forceful heave to press the three of them even closer together.
”And Uesugi, Koneko might look petite, but she’s not a child. She’s the same age as you—sixteen years old.”
”Mmmph… mmm…”
Aki tried to respond, but he couldn’t squeeze out a single word—he was too busy dampening the fabric of Rias’s uniform. Her breasts were truly enormous; even with someone else competing for space, they were big enough to completely seal his mouth shut.
A sudden wave of tingling numbness washed over Rias’s chest. As a sharp, electric sensation shot through her n**ipss, a flush crept up her lovely face. She hurriedly let go of them.
Having successfully escaped the seal, Aki wiped a bit of stray saliva from the mouth corner, looking perfectly innocent. He really hadn’t done it on purpose. Rias was just incredibly sensitive; even through the two layers of her uniform and bra, just a few accidental brushes from his lips had caused her n**ipss to go rock hard.
”President, Koneko… you can just call me by my name,” Aki said. “Koneko, is it okay if I call you that?”
Rias felt a wave of bashfulness. It was her first time being that intimate with a guy, and she’d actually gotten excited. She tried to keep her face composed, determined not to let Aki or Koneko see her lose her cool.
”Sure, Aki,” Rias replied, subtly shifting closer to Koneko. “But Koneko’s real name is actually Shirone. Koneko is just a nickname.”
”Ohh.”
Aki nodded. He didn’t just know her name was Shirone; he knew she had an older sister named Kuroka. He also knew she’d abandoned the name Shirone and taken Koneko specifically because of what her sister had done.
”Koneko is—”
The white-haired girl tugged on Rias’s sleeve, stopping her before she could say another word. Rias looked down at Koneko’s lowered head, feeling a pang of heartache and helplessness. Even after all this time, Koneko still hadn’t moved past the trauma involving her sister.
”That whole thing has nothing to do with you. Besides, Aki isn’t the type to—”
Koneko just kept clutching her sleeve, head down, remaining deathly silent.
”Alright, I’ll stop.”
Rias reached out and stroked the girl’s silver-white hair, and only then did Koneko let go. Rias gave Aki an apologetic smile. “Sorry about that. Koneko is just…”
”It’s fine,” Aki interrupted. “Everyone has a secret they’d rather keep to themselves.”
”Oh? Does that mean you have one too?” Rias asked, her interest instantly piqued.
Aki shrugged. “Who knows? Maybe.”
He had too many secrets to count—the transmigration, the Dual Cultivation, the future of this world’s plot. If he actually told her, Rias probably wouldn’t even believe him.
”Heh heh…”
Rias narrowed her eyes, her beautiful, almond-shaped eyes becoming even more dangerously seductive. “Now I want you to join my peerage even more.”
Aki rolled his eyes. “Seriously, pick a better role model. Why are you acting like Akeno-senpai? One sadistic, scheming woman in the club is more than enough.”
”Oh, really? I’ll be sure to tell Akeno you called her a sadistic schemer.”
”Uh… total slip of the tongue! President, please, don’t tell Akeno-senpai!”
Aki panicked. The atmosphere had been so relaxed he’d let his true thoughts leak out. Luckily, Himejima Akeno was out on business, or he’d definitely be in for a world of hurt.
”Pffft!”
Rias burst out laughing. “Alright, I’m done teasing. Let’s get serious. Koneko, for the next few days, you’re in charge of Aki’s combat training.”
Koneko had caught the gist of the conversation earlier. Without any questions, she simply nodded and accepted the task.
”Aki, don’t you dare underestimate her,” Rias warned, turning back to him. “Koneko doesn’t just have the Rook’s power boost—she’s a Nekomata³.”
After being reincarnated by the Evil Piece, Toujou Koneko had become a Mixed-blood with the combined strengths of a Devil and a Cat Youkai. Among Japanese Cat Youkais, the most powerful of the Nekomata are known as Nekoshou⁴. Between her natural heritage and her Rook status, she possessed terrifying physical techniques, attack power, and defense. She might look petite, but she was an absolute powerhouse of a warrior.

Kuudere by nature, she trains Aki in brutal combat, serving as his instructor and bodyguard, relying on immense strength and a ‘teaching by deed’ style.
• Akeno – Akeno Himejima, a senior of the Occult Research Club and Rias Gremory’s trusted retainer, sports long black hair, a graceful aura and a voluptuous figure often adorned in school uniform. An A‑rank devil with lightning magic, she mentors Aki, teasing him while observing his growth, and hides a sadistic streak behind a kind smile.
• Himejima Akeno – Akeno Himejima is a senior member of the Occult Research Club in High School DxD. She has long black hair, a graceful aura, and often wears school attire. Known for her elegant, mature beauty, she can generate golden lightning from her palms, possesses an icy temperament when provoked, and hides a sadistic streak behind a kind smile. She is Rias Gremory’s trusted retainer and confidante.
