Chapter 343 Sparring
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
On the television screen, the character played by Basara Toujou was easily finished off by the one Aki was playing.
Having already slept with both of the guy’s cousins, Aki felt a bit guilty. Noticing the dark look on Basara’s face, he gently set his controller down, intending to slip away unnoticed.
”Aki, where do you think you are going?” Basara said.
Basara’s low, dark voice echoed behind him as a thick, scarred arm clamped firmly onto Aki’s shoulder.
”I just remembered I might have left something running back at my place,” Aki said. “I thought I would go check on it.”
Aki spun a line of nonsense1 that he did not even believe himself, and Basara obviously was not going to buy it that easily.
”Spar with me,” Basara said.
Basara stared right at Aki, his expression deadly serious. “Mio and Maria are in your hands now. But even so, I still want to get stronger.”
The only bond left between Basara and the Naruse sisters was a thin thread of blood relations. Fortunately, everyone involved had decent personalities, so they managed to get along well enough when their other relatives were not around.
Basara had long known what choices Mio and Maria would make, but he just had not expected this day to come quite so soon.
As for giving Aki some grand speech about treating his sisters right, the moment Basara thought about Aki’s utterly messy relationships with women, he realized it would be a total waste of breath. Wisely, he kept his mouth shut.
Seeing the serious, earnest look on Basara’s face, Aki straightened up as well.
”The affairs of the Underworld’s previous generation are incredibly tangled,” Aki said. “Raw strength alone is not going to cut it.”
Aki knew for a fact that Jin Toujou, that guy who usually looked completely untrustworthy, should have already fought his way to the Demon King’s castle in Zolgear’s territory by now.
The Underworld was jointly ruled by the Four Great Satans, but not every single one of them was as absurdly broken as Sirzechs. Some were simply hiding their true power.
With Jin Toujou’s God-tier strength, charging into that place would not pose much of a problem for him.
Basara took a deep breath, his voice dropping an octave. “Raw strength might not be enough on its own, but you are absolutely nothing without it.”
Aki blinked, caught off guard for a moment, before letting out a laugh.
”Well said,” Aki said. He motioned for Basara to follow him outside. “Coincidentally, I just picked up a new magic myself. I was looking for a chance to practice it.”
”Let us get one thing straight first,” Basara said. “You have to suppress your realm to the exact same level as mine.”
”Then let us get another thing straight,” Aki said. “You are not allowed to use that cheap ability of yours.”
With a conceptual, rule-bending ability like Banishing Shift, if Aki suppressed his power level and was not careful, he could easily end up taking a miserable defeat.
A sparring partner was one thing, but he had absolutely no desire to look for a beating.
Basara hesitated for a moment. He was well aware of Aki’s actual combat instincts.
Whether it was close-quarters fighting, swordsmanship, or the use of magic, Aki completely outclassed him across the board.
With their realms set to equal levels, Basara was guaranteed to be the one taking a pounding.
”The whole reason I asked you to spar was so I could learn the Dimensionless Execution faster,” Basara said quietly.
That was indeed his plan. It was the most useful and easy shortcut to quickly raise his combat power.
”You can not even use that ability more than a few times anyway, can you?” Aki said.
Aki shot him a sidelong look. “That is supposed to be your ultimate trump card, not a crutch you lean on the second a fight breaks out.”
After a brief silence, Basara gave a slow nod.
His mind had been so clouded by Aki’s earlier words that he had almost forgotten. You do not always get to decide a battle in a single strike.
Seeing that Basara had braced himself to get thrashed, Aki flashed a wicked grin.
Though he had only just scratched the surface of his new Telekinesis magic, its greatest strength lay in its ability to catch opponents totally off guard. Using it to dominate Basara would not be an issue at all.
Of course, since he was acting as a sparring partner, he intended to do his duties to the absolute best of his ability.
Under Aki’s guidance, Basara’s growth was remarkably fast.
His natural combat talent was good to begin with. It had simply lain unused and ignored for far too many years.
Two hours later, Basara was totally worn out. Pinned flat against the grass by a huge, invisible hand of telekinetic force, he could only wriggle helplessly, with no strength left to fight back.
Seeing this, Aki quietly let out a sigh of relief.
Telekinesis magic was incredibly useful, but it was strictly suited for crushing weaker opponents or securing surprise knockouts. Once the enemy found out its weak points, it became a huge problem when fighting against someone of the exact same tier.
He had capped his mental strength at the peak of SS-rank. If he relied only on Telekinesis magic next time, he probably would not be able to beat Basara again.
Still, suppressing his output was one thing, but actual stamina use was another.
Compared to a totally spent Basara, Aki felt like he had barely even broken a sweat.
”Basara, you still alive over there?” Aki called out.
”I am fine,” Basara replied. “Just let me lie here for a bit.”
”All right. I will head back first, then. Same time tomorrow.”
”Yeah.”
Despite taking a beating for two hours straight, Basara was not discouraged in the slightest. His growth was clearly visible.
And after some real combat practice, Aki had gained a much deeper understanding of his Telekinesis magic, causing a certain idea to faintly show up in his mind.
But whether it was actually doable would need more testing.
Three days later.
In the courtyard of the Toujou residence, Basara was once again sent flying by a single punch from Aki.
His soles skidded across the turf, carving two deep grooves into the grass. Steadying his stance, Basara watched as Brynhildr lit up with an eerie, spectral light in his right hand, followed immediately by a burst of pale green flame bursting from his right eye.
”A breakthrough already?” Aki said. “That was fast.”
Aki showed a flicker of true surprise before smoothly adjusting his own power output up to the SSS-rank level.
Since he was acting as a sparring partner, he naturally had to keep an identical realm at all times.
Before Basara could even celebrate his sudden breakthrough, he saw Aki lunging forward with an entirely new set of offensive moves.
Left totally speechless, he nevertheless forced himself to respond with full force.
The core basics of combat stayed the same, but certain specialized moves and high-tier magic absolutely required a matching level of training to pull off.
It was just like handing a Forbidden Spell to a magic apprentice. Setting aside whether they could even read the runes, they would not have a fraction of the mana required to cast it anyway.
Now that Basara had achieved a breakthrough, Aki had way more methods at his disposal to teach him a lesson.
At this moment, Basara felt as though he had been instantly flung right back to three days ago. Just when he had finally managed to trade blows back and forth with some semblance of equality, who would have thought that breaking through would only land him right back on the receiving end of a one-sided beating?
He wept inside, but kept his mouth shut.2
There was nothing he could do about it. After all, Aki’s teaching was undeniably effective.
A mere three days had given a breakthrough, and his current fight skills could totally beat the version of himself from three days prior.
Aki did not intentionally drag out the torture either. Seeing that the session had reached its natural limit, he took the action to call it a day. “Let us pause things here for the next few days. Wait until you have totally fixed your realm before we resume.”
”Yeah,” Basara said.
Basara recalled Brynhildr, using his sleeve to wipe the heavy sweat from his forehead.
”I heard Yuki and Kurumi are planning to cut ties with the village,” Basara said. “Is that because of you?”
”Yeah,” Aki said. He was still lost in thought regarding his Telekinesis magic and answered casually. “I plan to Reincarnate them into Devils and bring them into my Peerage.”
Devils naturally enjoyed way longer lives than ordinary humans, and that long life would only grow as their power went up.
The Nonaka sisters had excellent talent, and they happened to be exactly Aki’s type, so giving them slots within his Peerage was an easy choice.
Besides, even if he did not Reincarnate them into Devils, the Hero Clan was no longer a place where they could safely stay.
Cutting ties with the village was a decision the sisters had arrived at entirely on their own.
Nonaka Yuki, a schoolgirl with a clear hidden streak of yandere tendencies, had already totally tied her entire existence around Aki.
Let alone leaving her village, she would willingly tear down the world for his sake.
Nonaka Kurumi was a bit more level-headed. She was mostly just sticking close to her older sister. While she certainly held real affection for Aki, and their Dual Cultivation sessions had been nothing short of amazing, her main reason was simply wanting to stay by Yuki’s side.
”Yuki and Kurumi already set off yesterday,” Aki said.
Aki gazed up at the clear, blue sky. “Figuring the travel time, they should be getting back to the village just about now.”
After their Dual Cultivation session, they had spent a day fixing their respective training realms before the Nonaka sisters raised the matter of going back to the village.
With Zolgear’s death confirmed, Kurumi’s watch assignment had officially reached its end.
Furthermore, they had successfully gathered first-hand real data regarding Dual Cultivation. This return trip would effectively allow them to check off two big goals in a single sweep.
As for the original order to watch Aki for a full year, it really depended on whether the elders could bear to part with yet another beautiful and elite female Hero to do the task. In any case, Yuki had firmly decided she was done playing the role of an undercover agent.
And if they tried to send a male Hero to keep tabs on him instead, the Gremory household would not tolerate it for a single second.
Aki felt a slight worry regarding the Nonaka sisters, and had originally thought about going with them on the trip.
However, marching directly into the headquarters of the Hero Clan, even if it was merely a local branch office, still carried a dangerous level of risk.
He was confident, but he was not arrogant.
Thinking carefully on the lore, while the Heroes’ “Yamamura” was not exactly a place of total, flawless justice, they still stayed firmly within the boundaries of a lawful-aligned group.
In the original timeline of The Testament of Sister New Devil, Yuki had eventually broken away from the village anyway, giving up the sacred relic “Sakuya” as payment. Though the process had involved its share of trouble, the end result had been generally positive.
In truth, what actually set off Aki’s worry was the Cuckold Template.3 Even though he had totally controlled and dominated the story, mental shadows were not that easy to wipe away.
The moment he heard a name like “Yamamura,” his mind instantly pictured vivid, raw flashes of a trashy, yellow-haired punk sliding into the frame. Especially when he factored in the reality that this world also had explicit erotic games and adult doujin workings mixed right into its fabric.

Summary:
Moving from a tense video game defeat into an open courtyard, Basara Toujou demands a serious sparring session from Aki to offset his growing irrelevance in the face of family changes. Aki uses his newly developed Telekinesis magic to systematically outmatch Basara across multiple days, pushing him until he forces a cultivation breakthrough. Despite the successful training regime, the unexpected departure of the Nonaka sisters back to their home village introduces an unpredictable psychological anxiety regarding untoward genre interventions.
