Chapter 417 Bonuses
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Testing Greyfia would have to wait for later; for now, since Aki had become a God-tier powerhouse, the many Schoolgirls had all reaped a windfall, causing their strength to surge dramatically.
However, regarding the news of Aki’s God-tier status, everyone tacitly agreed not to reveal it to the outside world.
The Divine Research Society’s strength had already made the Hero Clan deeply wary; and now, with one more God and a double-digit number of Demon King-class warriors, it wasn’t just the Hero Clan—every supernatural faction in the Human World would likely find it hard to eat or sleep peacefully.
Just as Aki was working hard to help the Schoolgirls improve their strength, a major event unfolded within the Hero Clan.
The former hero, Jin Toujou, had returned—and he’d brought back his son, whose talent was even more monstrous than his own.
After undergoing practical training with Aki, Basara Toujou grew much stronger.
However, because he is mixed-blood from the Four Clans and was born with the “Banishing Shift”—a skill that’s practically a game-breaking glitch—Aki could no longer help him become any stronger.
While Aki was searching for a way to breach the God-tier and take his strength to the next level, Basara Toujou didn’t stop either.
Seeing that Aki wasn’t coming to school at all, Basara Toujou asked Naruse Mio about it and simply stopped going to school himself.
Compared to rescuing his mother as soon as possible, going to school seemed completely meaningless.
Although Jin Toujou wasn’t by Basara Toujou’s side, he had been keeping a close eye on his precious son all along.
Upon discovering his problem, he rushed back immediately.
After a “friendly” exchange between father and son, Basara Toujou was taken under Jin Toujou’s wing to undergo training.
Although Jin Toujou didn’t possess the Banishing Shift ability, he was, after all, a man chosen by the Ancient Dragon. He understood the power within Basara Toujou very well and knew exactly how to train him to grow as quickly as possible.
On top of that, Basara Toujou currently lacks real combat experience, and his character leaves something to be desired.
Jin Toujou brought him back to the Hero Clan precisely to address this weakness.
The Hero Clan has many missions—some involving actual combat, others testing one’s character—and as long as Basara Toujou takes on a few more of these missions, he’ll naturally grow stronger.
As it happened, the Hero Clan was struggling to find powerful combatants, so Jin Toujou and Basara Toujou hit it off immediately, and the two began working closely together right away.
They were so close that it was as if the past animosity had never existed.
In reality, there was no real animosity between Jin Toujou and the Hero Clan; it was mainly because Basara Toujou hadn’t been very happy during his childhood there.
However, given Jin Toujou’s reputation as the “God of War,” he hadn’t had it too bad, so he, too, quickly came to terms with the situation.
It seemed that with the return of the former “God of War,” the upper echelons of the Hero Clan—that bunch of old fools—were starting to stir once again.
After some deliberation, they decided to continue monitoring Aki and the Divine Research Society.
Since the Japanese branch had lost two highly talented hero schoolgirls, Natural would no longer agree to this request, so they simply dispatched a Hero Schoolgirl from the European branch.
Her name is Celis Redhart, and she is the most talented and powerful Hero of her generation in the Vatican.
Celis had lived in Japan for a while as a child and had no language barriers, so this mission fell to her.
The Hero Clan had great confidence in her abilities and believed she would certainly fulfill the surveillance mission; even if the mission failed, at least she wouldn’t betray them like the Nonaka sisters did.
This was the Vatican leadership’s confidence in their brainwashing capabilities.
Just like Irina, even if Michael himself were to intervene, the beliefs instilled in her from childhood—or rather, the worldview shaped by brainwashing—would be difficult to shake.
But when she encountered Aki and his “Rule-level” dual cultivation ability, no schoolgirl could withstand it.
Even Irina, who had been reincarnated as an angel, fell; how much more so for Celis, whose strength was merely S-Rank.
From the moment this blonde hero schoolgirl accepted the mission, her fate had already been quietly sealed.
While Celis was on her way to Kuoh Academy, something happened on Aki’s end as well, causing their first meeting to be delayed by several days.
It was late November, with only a month left until the end of Aki’s second semester of his sophomore year.
This was also his first day back at school after breaking through to God-tier.
At this level, whether or not he attended school didn’t really matter anymore.
But just like Rias, was going to school really just about acquiring knowledge?
No, it was simply to experience life.
After becoming God-tier, the first cultivation gains allowed the Divine Research Society and Naruse Mio—a few of the most gifted girls—to make big strides in their strength, but the other girls with lower potential weren’t so fortunate.
If the difference in strength was too great, just like the Hentai Heroines, they would be unable to absorb Aki’s Life Energy very early on.
With Aki becoming a God-tier powerhouse, the strength threshold required to absorb his Life Energy has risen to S-Rank.
Aside from Rias and the others who reaped the benefits, there’s also the dark-skinned beauty Catreia, who visits once a month as usual.
To boost her strength, she fused with the power of the Abyss back then, but even so, she only barely managed to reach Demon King-class.
As a result, just one month of Dual Cultivation was enough to make her strength solid, and the benefits she gained this time even propelled her directly into the ranks of the Super-Devil.
Faced with this reality, Catreia was initially delighted, but then grew frustrated.
She was angry at herself for not meeting Aki sooner, and frustrated that she had fused with the power of the Abyss in the first place, forcing her to now figure out how to separate it.
The tainted Abyss energy and Aki’s life ability were in conflict—though the conflict wasn’t obvious.
But if she wanted to continue relying on cultivation to improve her strength, or even break through to the God-tier, she would have to completely separate herself from the power of the Abyss.
As the saying goes, it’s easy to invite a guest, but hard to send them away.
If fusing with Abyss energy had a fifty-fifty chance of success, then separating from it was a near-certain death.
However, having been thoroughly outmaneuvered by Aki and convinced by him, and having discovered the excellence and power of the Dual Cultivation Ability, Catreia still decided to find a way to separate from it.
Because without separating the Abyss energy, becoming a God-tier powerhouse would mean throwing herself completely into the Abyss’s embrace and transforming into an Abyss monster.
Most Abyss monsters lack rationality; only a few at the very pinnacle possess independent thought—essentially, they are no different from the dead.
After reaffirming her resolve, Catreia, as usual, reported the movements of the remnants of the Old Devils to Aki once her cultivation session was over.
”Master, the Old Devils have been making major moves lately. They plan to kill Leonhart, the current youngest and weakest Demon King, and then abolish his reign. “
The dark-skinned beauty slumped limply in Aki’s arms, her pair of shapely, slender legs still wrapped around his waist, but the words that came out of her mouth were enough to shake the Three Realms.
Back when the Three Factions Talk failed and Catreia was captured, her status plummeted upon her return. However, with Aki’s help, her strength rose rapidly.
Power is always the ultimate authority, and as her strength grew, Catreia once again became one of the highest-ranking members of the Old Devil faction.
On top of that, as a descendant of Leviathan, she knew every detail of the Old Devil faction’s schemes inside and out—she was even one of the architects of the plan herself.
”Leonhart?”
Aki blinked. Was there such a figure among the current Four Great Satans?
Come to think of it, aside from Serafell and Sirzechs, what were the names of the other two Demon Kings again?
After thinking about it for a while, Aki realized he actually didn’t know the answer, but instead recalled some information about Leonhart.
Leonhart is the new Demon King in *The Testament of Sister New Devil* who succeeded Naruse Mio’s father, Wilbert the Demon King. While he appears to be a hawk, he is actually an advocate for coexistence between humans and demons.
Rather than waging war, he is more passionate about exploring ancient civilizations and gaining knowledge from ruins to drive the overall development of the Underworld.
Since this world is primarily based on the *High School DxD* universe—where the Four Great Pureblood Families and the Four Great Satans are passed down through generations—he had almost forgotten about this young Demon King.
Since Wilbert was the previous Demon King and was related to the Gremory household, it seems only natural that Leonhart, who succeeded him, would still be one of the Four Great Satans alongside Sirzechs.
As for the one who was replaced…
From what little he could remember, Aki knew that the remaining two Demon Kings, just like Serafell, had been forced into their roles; if someone were willing to take their place as Demon King, they’d surely run away faster than anyone else.
When Aki thought of Leonhart, he thought of Naruse Mio’s uncle.
That middle-aged, red-haired Devil Peerage man with glasses claimed to be Wilbert’s younger brother, but in Aki’s memory, many people said he was actually Wilbert, who hadn’t died.
However, there’s no evidence for this—it’s just speculation—because the appearance of this Demon King’s “younger brother” was far too convenient, and he also wields Gravity Magic.
Aki actually leans toward the idea that he isn’t Wilbert; there’s more evidence suggesting they aren’t the same person than there is suggesting they are.
Wilbert displayed huge flame power to the outside world, and when Naruse Mio was in danger, he didn’t lift a finger.
Even afterward, his attitude toward Naruse Mio was cold and indifferent; he didn’t act like a father, let alone an uncle.
Of course, perhaps this was all part of Wilbert’s plan—otherwise, he couldn’t have fooled all the Devils.
After thinking for a while and going over all the relevant information in his memory, Aki rubbed his temples and finally gave up trying to figure it out.
It was too complicated. Who cares what the Old Devils wanted to do or what their plans were? Just crush them outright.
Wasn’t this exactly why he’d been working so hard to get stronger?
Of course, while strategically underestimating the enemy, one must take them seriously tactically. Aki still carefully inquired about the Old Devils’ detailed deployment.
Catreia was completely open and candid; she laid everything out on the table—everything except the color of the operatives’ underwear.
After listening, it suddenly clicked for Aki, and he understood the whole situation.
Right after the “Three Factions Talk,” the Old Devils faction—which had long sought to overthrow the current Underworld—joined forces with the disgruntled old-timers under Leonhart’s command.
