Chapter 429 Sephie’s Illegitimate Child?!

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The arrival of the Heroic Spirit army and the Outer Gods caused massive chaos. The ordinary devil citizens hadn’t yet recovered from the previous Heroic Spirit siege, and this disaster—like a replay of that nightmare—brought the familiar shadow of terror back upon them.

The Demon King’s army, prepared as they were under the Secretary’s instructions, began mounting a response.

But the Heroic Spirits that should have boosted their strength were being controlled by Curia, and the Demon King’s army—despite having a slight advantage in raw power—found themselves at a disadvantage.

Then the unsealed Child of Chaos appeared, and even the many Demon King-class powerhouses could no longer stand idly by.

Ramsus, Shela, Naruse Mio, the Secretary, and many other strong fighters joined forces. Together they barely managed to hold back the Child of Chaos—a being of devastating power, radiating an aura of pure annihilation—outside the Demon King castle walls.

Curia had the means to seal the Child of Chaos. If their plan succeeded, the immortal elders would activate it willingly, imprisoning the entity once more.

If it failed? Well, the immortals couldn’t care less about how much devastation this Outer God would unleash.

Even if everyone in the world died, it made no difference to them.

But Ramsus and the other devils? They couldn’t afford to think that way.

This Outer God had wiped out Curia’s biggest weakness: their lack of top-tier combatants.

Though, to be fair, that was not quite right. The immortals’ strength had dropped with age, but they’d lived so long that they were all Demon King-class in raw power—just somewhat inferior in actual combat ability.

But they valued their lives above all else. Even at a moment like this, they never intended to fight themselves.

So in practical terms, Curia’s side might as well have had no Demon King-class fighters.

The Child of Chaos was an Outer God, and within the Three Realms, its power was already suppressed. Add to that its long imprisonment, and at best it functioned at the level of a low-rank god.

Moreover, this Outer God possessed little intelligence—it acted almost entirely on instinct.

If the Child of Chaos had any real cleverness, it would not be destroying every living thing in sight right now. Instead it would be hunting down Curia’s immortals.

Only by killing them could it ever truly free itself from the threat of being sealed again.

But even so, the combined might of several powerful Demon King-class fighters could only barely hold this Outer God at bay.

As time dragged on, the Child of Chaos advanced, step by heavy step, toward the Demon King castle.

It sounds like a long story, but in truth all of this unfolded within mere minutes.

The Colosseum forbade casual entry or exit, but it didn’t block the view.

Those outside could see the scenes unfolding within, and naturally those inside could witness everything happening outside as well.

Some mechanism inside the Colosseum slowly pulled the floating platforms of Naruse Mio and Leohart closer together.

Naruse Mio had been forced into the Colosseum. Before she could even process what was happening, the world outside had already changed completely.

After a moment—once the external battle had settled into a shaky balance—she finally turned her gaze to Leohart on the floating boulder ahead.

Blazing flames surged without stop from the volcano’s mouth. Thick black smoke covered the sky within the Colosseum. Crimson magma covered the ground below, leaving only these floating boulders and ancient ruins as places to stand.

Leohart watched the fight outside with growing worry. His eyes fixed on the sky-obscuring form of the Child of Chaos, watching everyone struggle so desperately against it—and his heart burned with impatience.

But no matter how impatient he was, there was nothing he could do now.

Naruse Mio had cooperated fully. They’d simply underestimated Curia’s resolve, and in the end they’d walked straight into the trap.

Even as thick-skinned as he was, he couldn’t bring himself to ask her to kill herself so he could escape the barrier more quickly.

And besides—she might be kind, but she wasn’t stupid, nor was she some self-sacrificing saint. Saying something like that would only make him look shameless, without accomplishing a single useful thing.

 ”Naruse Mio…”

Staring at the red-haired Japanese schoolgirl not far away, Leohart’s expression was grim—especially when his gaze fell upon that unassuming black cat, still lying sprawled across her well-endowed chest.

”What the hell is that cat, anyway?”

The young Demon King finally could not hold back and asked, his voice low.

Aki glanced at the battle outside, noted that things were still stable and the fish he was waiting for hadn’t appeared yet, then happily settled in to keep wasting time with Leohart inside.

 ”Nya~”

A lazy cat’s meow escaped his lips. As Leohart’s eye twitched uncontrollably, a young, magnetic male voice followed immediately after.

”Well… as for who I am, that’s kind of hard to answer right now. All you need to know is that I have Demon King bloodline, and I’m stronger than you.”

Whether Leohart held back because he was wary of Aki or for some other reason—the fact remained that he hadn’t made a move against Naruse Mio. And as long as that continued, Aki couldn’t be bothered to deal with him either.

In his nekomata form, close combat was awkward, but his magic was completely unaffected.

To drive the point home, he extended one slender feline paw and unleashed an instant magic lightning bolt. It grazed Leohart’s cheek, reducing a round boulder—more than ten meters in diameter—that had drifted behind him into fine dust.

Leohart’s heart tightened. His last lingering thoughts of resorting to force vanished entirely.

That attack’s power was just average for Demon King-class—even if Aki hadn’t aimed wide, Leohart could have tanked it.

But that was a casual, instant-cast strike, delivered without even leaving his cat form. No wind-up, no visible mana change.

To control his power that well, Aki’s true strength was far above his own.

Leohart knew that Aki’s mid-God-class peak power—against a Super Devil like him—was practically the same as an adult beating a child.

With Leohart unwilling to fight, and Naruse Mio and Aki having no reason to clash with each other, the Colosseum—built specifically for the Demon King selection—fell into an eerie silence.

The Colosseum, where battles should have raged fiercely, was eerily calm. Meanwhile, the normally peaceful Demon King castle had fallen into brutal war.

 ”Rumble…”

Another volcanic eruption. Scorching heat and the stench of sulfur filled the Colosseum.

Seeing that Aki had made his point and then fallen silent, without revealing his identity, Leohart could not wait any longer.

”Who exactly are you?” Leohart demanded. “The young generation’s Demon King bloodline should only be me and the Naruse sisters…”

”How would you know there aren’t any other Demon King bloodlines in the younger generation?” Aki shot back. “And where your bloodline came from—I have no idea.”

Right now Aki was busy explaining why he’d deliberately entered the Colosseum to Mio and Lucia through the Soul Network. At the same time, he warned them to stay safe—especially a certain loli succubus housewife.

Because she’d reached the edge of the Succubus God’s domain, Shela had, as the fight went on, unexpectedly become the main force holding back the Child of Chaos. The other Demon King-class fighters mostly just helped from the sides.

Not that he cared—aside from Sephie and Liala, whose whereabouts within the Demon King castle were uncertain, the destruction of this place had absolutely nothing to do with Aki and his group.

Aki had never been some selfless savior. He only cared about the people close to him.

Family, friends—of course he’d help them if he could.

 Strangers?

 Not his problem.

This mindset led him to let Curia’s plan succeed, purposefully throwing things into chaos.

Because on the Sacred Gear that Bellgus had used, he’d sensed a vaguely familiar presence.

The trace was too faint, however, and he couldn’t be certain.

But since the attacker was that disgusting Bellgus, Aki seized the opportunity to destroy both the Sacred Gear and that monster who’d been wasting perfectly good female companionship.

Once Naruse Mio and the “black cat” had entered, Curia could no longer resist—they activated the plan.

But the appearance of this strange black cat also made certain people who’d been planning to act stop and think again.

Weakness was the original sin. Despite the war’s brutality, as long as your strength was A-rank, you were in no real danger right then.

Not only was there no danger, but you could also easily play the hero, save a damsel in distress, and score some affection points.

A classic example was a certain mask-wearing Doll Master.

As Aki observed the outside, he happened to catch Ras rescuing the maid sister he’d grown up with at the orphanage.

Not only did Ras save his childhood friend, but he also rescued many young devil children who’d been separated from their parents.

Similar scenes were unfolding elsewhere—the closer to the Peerage residential area, the more frequently they occurred.

Most devils in the Peerages were fairly capable and not particularly cold-hearted—they had fairly normal personalities.

Something so easy that also built good karma and reputation—any decent person would do it.

Aki split his attention three ways: watching the fight in the city and looking for his target, explaining things to Mio, and dealing with Leohart.

Good thing he’d practiced telekinesis magic—juggling three things at once came naturally.

”Aside from Wilbert’s branch, all the previous generation’s Demon King bloodlines have been confirmed dead in battle,” Leohart said.

”Wilbert, his sister, and Ramsus—kept as the family’s seed—that’s three people total.”

”Ramsus has never married, and there’ve been no rumors about him. Only Wilbert left behind the Naruse sisters—two mixed-blood descendants…”

This dark-skinned, tall, powerfully built Demon King seemed to enjoy gossip.

As he spoke, he seemed to consider a possibility—his eyes widening slightly.

 ”Don’t tell me… you’re Sephie’s child?”

Aki had just finished warning Lucia, reassuring Naruse Mio, and explaining that they could leave anytime because this place couldn’t trap them when he heard Leohart’s wild guess.

”Ha?!” Aki’s aloof cat face instantly cracked, his fur bristling. “You say I’m Sephie’s illegitimate child? I’d sooner say you are!”

”No, I’m not. I have parents,” Leohart replied, dead serious.

OF COURSE I KNOW YOU’RE NOT!

Suppressing the urge to slap Leohart, Aki snorted coldly: “You said it yourself—only Wilbert’s line left descendants. If you’re not Sephie’s illegitimate child, then where did YOUR Demon King bloodline come from?”

 ”Uh…”

Leohart hesitated for a moment, then finally revealed the truth.

”Actually… Curia arranged my Demon King bloodline for me. But I wasn’t willing to be controlled by them…”

Aki froze. He hadn’t expected that casually spouting some nonsense would uncover a truth like this.

No wonder Curia had supported Leohart’s rise to power back then. No wonder those old fossils had been so determined this time.

When even the Demon King they’d put on the throne themselves could not be controlled, those immortals must have been completely fed up with having a Demon King above them.

As for how Leohart and Curia had ended up in their current standoff—it was probably another case of a gifted young man swallowing his pride, biding his time, and eventually getting payback.

 —

 Summary:

The Child of Chaos has appeared and is being held back by Ramsus, Shela, Naruse Mio, and others outside Demon King castle. Meanwhile, inside the Colosseum, Leohart and Naruse Mio are trapped while Aki (in cat form) reveals his superior strength to Leohart. Leohart’s theory that Aki is Sephie’s illegitimate child leads to a confrontation that ultimately reveals Curia arranged Leohart’s Demon King bloodline.

 —

 Trivia:

The Colosseum allows viewing both ways—those inside can see outside and vice versa, which is why Leohart is so anxious about the battle.

Shela glimpsed the threshold of the Succubus God during the battle and has become the main force against the Child of Chaos.

Aki deliberately let Curia’s plan succeed to create chaos and find someone connected to a familiar presence he sensed on Bellgus’s Sacred Gear.

Wilbert’s line is the only confirmed surviving Demon King bloodline, with Wilbert, his sister Sephie, and Ramsus as the only remaining members.

Leohart’s Demon King bloodline was artificially arranged by Curia, making him a puppet king they eventually lost control of.

Aki can use telekinesis magic to multitask—he was simultaneously observing the battle, communicating through Soul Network with Mio and Lucia, and dealing with Leohart.

The previous generation’s Demon King bloodlines (excluding Wilbert’s) have all been confirmed dead in battle.

Ras saved his childhood friend (a maid from the orphanage) and many young devil children during the chaos.

Despite the war’s brutality, A-rank individuals are not in real danger and can even use the situation to gain reputation.

The Colosseum has a mechanism that slowly draws floating platforms together—this is why Naruse Mio and Leohart are approaching each other.

Notes:

• Curia – Demon King Castle elder. Proposed the Colosseum death match method as a political maneuver. Plans to exploit Leohart’s confinement to eliminate his supporters using spiritual power. Has contingencies to force Naruse Mio’s entry. Refrains from interfering with Naruse Mio and Leohart’s interactions, even encouraging them.

• Naruse Mio – A gifted 17-year-old and daughter of the late Demon King Wilbert, she is a defiant, tsundere high schooler with signature red twin ponytails. Aki’s loyal girlfriend, she carries her father’s legacy while navigating the Gremory peerage and political intrigue. Despite her naivety, she boldly rejects the throne and manipulation, relying on Aki’s guidance and their bond to survive the supernatural world.

• Naruse – Mio Naruse is a fair-skinned, red-haired schoolgirl with a voluptuous build who serves as a Demon King heir and Bishop in Aki’s peerage. Protected by the Gremory household, this “Sister Flower” evolves from a hesitant tsundere into Aki’s devoted, polyamorous partner. She maintains deep, essential bonds with her sister Maria, friend Kurumi, and her adoptive parents, forming the core Naruse family.

• Ramsus – A red-haired Peerage devil wearing round gold-rimmed glasses and formalwear. As an estate owner and uncle to his niece, Naruse Mio, he hosts her, Shela, and Maria at his villa. A cautious former subordinate of Sirzechs, he balances his role as a noble protector with administrative duties, including planning logistics with Demon King Leohart and observing Mio’s composure with newfound respect.

• Shela – A petite, white-haired Succubus Queen with ram horns and violet eyes, she balances youthful looks with a mature, cunning personality. A survivor of the Three-Way War and intuitive teacher, she lives in Aki’s household as a devoted partner and mother to Mio, Lucia, and Maria. Though she once sought to pair Aki with her daughters, she now claims him, blending matronly grace with strategic protection.

• Mio – Mio Naruse is a fair-skinned, voluptuous Kuoh Academy student with red twin-tails. As the Demon King’s daughter and Maria’s sister, she is a powerful Bishop in Aki’s peerage, currently managing sealed abilities involving gravity and hellfire. A proud, envious tsundere, she shares a deep, intimate bond with Aki while her presence often invites scrutiny, including comparisons to figures like Chisato.

• Leohart – The young, dark-skinned Demon King with purple magical tattoos and a penchant for combat-ready attire rules the Demon King Castle following Wilbert’s death. Possessing Wilbert’s bloodline, he governs reasonably despite being under the Curia’s thumb. Though struggling against ancient schemers, he remains strategically clever, balancing casual regality with blunt, commanding authority when threatened.

• Aki – A tall, handsome Kuoh Academy student and Red Dragon Emperor, he is a reincarnated cultivator who currently inhabits a pitch-black cat form with piercing azure eyes. Calculating and protective, he commands the Boosted Gear and Origin Blood. Connected to the Gremory household and Naruse Mio via a Soul Network, he manages a vast harem while navigating ancient conspiracies and his own feline instincts.

• Lucia – A tall, elegant, white-haired succubus maid with an icy demeanor, she defies her nature through abstinence. As Shela’s daughter and Maria’s sister, she possesses Wilbert’s blood but leans toward her succubus lineage. Often overlooked, this companion of Naruse Mio is a confidante to the family, secretly vulnerable, and deeply invested in Aki, absorbing his energy while grappling with her feelings.

• Sephie – The younger sister of Wilbert who possesses Demon King-class strength.

• Liala – A white-gold-haired Devil believed to be a God-tier existence under surveillance.

• Bellgus – A sadistic Devil and elite Cardinal Council agent who scavenged Zolgear’s legacy. Beneath formal attire, his monstrous, purple-skinned form radiates a sharp, cheap-perfume stench. An arrogant, predatory underling of the Curia, he uses trash-tier life-drain techniques to torment others. He actively opposes the protagonists, serving Leohart while hiding his vile nature behind political maneuvering.

• Ras – An SS-Rank Doll Master and former orphan raised by the Naruses, this elegant, white-masked magic user serves as Zolgear’s trusted subordinate and infiltrator. Though he acted as a double agent for years, his complex ties to his childhood idols ultimately led him to return to the Underworld with the Naruse parents, abandoning his role as a pawn to guide Aki through the enemy base.

• Wilbert – The deceased former Demon King was a pacifist who made peace with Heroes and restored his realm after the Great War. A mysterious benefactor to the Naruse orphanage, he ensured his daughter, Mio, was raised by kind parents in the Human World. His immense power, sought by others, sealed Mio’s abilities. He was the ancestor of the ruling family, leaving behind his sister Sephie, lover Shela, and allies.

• Y – The first initial/part of the name Y Ddraig Goch.
