Chapter 43 Sullied
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Aki looked at Rias, then at the chess pieces on the coffee table, his expression completely blank. “What’s going on?” he asked, his voice filled with confusion. “Did you grab the wrong ones, Rias? Did you mistake ordinary chess pieces for Evil Pieces?”
Rias blinked her crimson, crystal-like eyes, looking just as lost as he was. “That shouldn’t be possible,” she muttered. She picked up the chess piece from the table and inspected it twice, turning it over in her hands.
”There’s no mistake; it’s a Rook-class Evil Piece,” Rias confirmed, her brow furrowing. “It clearly started to merge into your body. The Reincarnation was already underway… so why did it just stop?”
Rias had seen failed Reincarnations before, but this was different. Usually, if a candidate lacked the capacity, she would just need to increase the “dosage.” In those cases, the magic circle would stay active, and she would feel the pull. “I’ve never heard of a body just… rejecting a piece like this,” she whispered.
Aki gave her a skeptical look. “Maybe you got scammed with some low-quality knockoffs?”
Rias shot him a glare. “The problem isn’t the pieces, Aki. It’s definitely you.” The two of them lapsed into a heavy silence, simply staring at each other in a stunned deadlock.
”Slurp~”
Koneko, the white-haired loli, licked her popsicle and looked up. “Buchou, why not try a different piece?” she suggested.
”Hmm…” Rias rubbed the piece in her hand, her eyes narrowing. “Let’s try again.” She noticed something strange; the rejected piece hadn’t lost any Mana. If anything, it looked more polished—oily and gleaming with a metallic luster. To make sure it wasn’t a power issue, Rias grabbed eight Pawn pieces at once. “Here we go,” she declared.
The black-and-red magic circle flared up again, humming with power. A moment later, eight pieces clattered back onto the coffee table.
Rias looked like she was about to pull her hair out. She took a deep breath, collected the Pawns, and pulled out her last resort: her sole Mutation Piece. Aki was starting to get nervous. He could accept one dud, but eight? He gritted his teeth and bared his chest again. “One more time,” he said.
The magic circle glowed brighter and longer than any of the previous attempts. Aki could feel a surge of power and Mana rushing through his veins, but as the seconds ticked by, the sensation withered away.
Clang. Rias watched the Mutation Piece fall with a hollow expression. She didn’t say a word. Since she’d gone this far, she decided to just dump her entire remaining inventory on him. “If this works,” she hissed, “I’m going to make you work until you drop dead.”
She calculated the cost in her head. Aki was effectively trying to swallow twelve of her fifteen peerage slots. “You’ll be doing the work of twelve men, Aki!” she yelled, her eyes flashing with a predatory light.
Aki shivered under her intense gaze. “I get it, I get it,” he stammered, trying to match her determination.
A massive magic circle erupted, light flooding the room. Rias’s red hair whipped around her face as she pushed her Mana to the limit. Twelve Evil Pieces flew toward Aki’s chest in rapid succession.
…
Clang… Clang… Clang… Twelve pieces lay scattered across the table. The light had completely vanished from Rias’s eyes. She had seen a lot in her time, but never this. He would take them in, only to spit them back out.
”I feel… like I’ve been NTR’d,”¹ Rias whispered to herself. The worst part was that she was the one who had forced the pieces onto him. She picked up one of the pieces, her fingers trembling as she felt Aki’s lingering “scent” and aura deep within the metal.
It’s just an illusion, she told herself, clutching the pieces to her chest. It’ll go away. They haven’t really been molded into his shape… have they?
Aki rubbed his chest, feeling a different kind of exhaustion. Between Akeno’s kick earlier and having pieces thrust in and out of him for the last hour, he was spent. He checked his skin, finding it perfectly smooth—even the bruise from Akeno’s boot had faded. But instead of feeling powerful, he felt hollowed out. Even “Little Aki” was feeling dejected.
”Buchou, I’m heading out first,” Aki said, already moving toward the door. He wanted to bail before Akeno returned. If he stayed, he was just asking for another kick.
Rias didn’t even look up. She just waved a hand dismissively. “Just go,” she sighed. She stared at her Evil Pieces, a sense of dread pooling in her stomach. They really didn’t feel “clean” anymore.
Aki didn’t stick around to analyze her mood. He straightened his clothes and walked out, his mind racing. I’m a normal human, he thought. If these things can turn Dragons and Yokai, why not me? He pondered it for all of ten seconds before shrugging it off. That was Rias’s problem. His problem was getting to Shitori Sona before the news spread.
”I’m feeling pretty drained,” he muttered, turning a corner toward the Student Council office. “But I have to make this work. If Rias talks to Sona first, I’m cooked.”
* * *
”Tsubaki-senpai, do you have a moment?” Aki asked, stepping into the office with his best innocent look.
Shinra Tsubaki looked up from her paperwork, her face like stone. “Is something the matter, Uesugi-kun?” she asked coldly.
Aki gave her a sweet smile and a polite nod. Sensing the heavy atmosphere, the other council members watched with curious eyes as Tsubaki stood up. “Follow me,” she commanded.
They stepped into a private side room. The moment the door clicked shut, Tsubaki turned on him with a sneer. “What brings you here, Uesugi-kun? I assumed you were too busy for the likes of us.”
Aki winced at the formal name. “Tsubaki-senpai, why the ‘Uesugi’ again? I thought we were on a first-name basis.” He tried to slide closer to her, hoping to catch a scent of her perfume and maybe steal a kiss.
Tsubaki jerked her head away, though she didn’t step back. “Oh, I wouldn’t want to overstep,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “What if Akeno-san misinterprets our ‘closeness’?”
Aki realized he was in deep trouble. The air was thick with jealousy. Since the rumors died down, he’d basically ghosted her to hang out at the Occult Research Club. Sona might have accepted his choice, but Tsubaki had given him her first kiss. To her, this was a betrayal.
I’m still a rookie at this scumbag stuff, Aki thought. I forgot I had a mature fruit waiting to be picked right here.
”Tsubaki-senpai, you have to believe me—I was forced into it,” Aki pleaded, weaving a web of half-truths. “I only go to that club for training. I barely even see Akeno-senpai. Most of the time, I’m just getting my teeth kicked in by Koneko.” He began a vivid, dramatic retelling of how much he had suffered, making sure to leave out every single erotic detail of his time with the Gremory girls.

Summary:
Aki undergoes multiple reincarnation attempts by Rias using the Evil Pieces, all of which fail as his body mysteriously rejects them. The pieces, however, become ‘polished’ by his aura, leading Rias to feel a sense of violation or ‘NTR.’ Realizing he cannot be a Gremory servant, Aki immediately pivots to the Student Council to try his luck with Sona, only to be confronted by a jealous Tsubaki.
—
Trivia:
- The Evil Pieces becoming ‘polished’ and ‘oily’ after rejection suggests Aki’s soul might be refining or ‘claiming’ the pieces rather than being converted by them.
- Rias’s feeling of being ‘NTR’d’ hints at the deep spiritual/physical connection the Evil Pieces represent in this world, crossing into s*xual metaphor.
- Aki’s immediate pivot to Sona shows his opportunistic nature and hints that he might be looking for a way to gain power without being bound by the Gremory contract
—
Character Insight:
Rias shifts from a position of authority to one of vulnerability and confusion, feeling ‘unclean’ after the ritual. Tsubaki’s coldness confirms her deep emotional investment in Aki following their kiss, shifting their dynamic from professional to a tense, jealousy-fueled personal conflict.
—
Lore And Worldbuilding Context:
Introduced the ‘Mutation Piece’ as a high-tier reincarnation tool. Established that Aki’s body is physically capable of taking in the pieces but his ‘soul’ or ‘constitution’ triggers an automatic expulsion after a period of time.
—
TL Notes:
The term ‘NTR’ and ‘Not Clean’ are used to maintain the doujin/ecchi flavor of the source material, emphasizing the s*xualized nature of the magic systems.
