Chapter 451 Sephie’s Choice (Part ②)
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Aki spoke up, and Liala finally stopped targeting Seris—though she still didn’t bother putting her clothes back on.
Seris, who’d been completely confused the whole time, finally breathed a sigh of relief. She quietly stepped back a few paces, giving Aki and Liala room to do their research.
Surrounded by two seductively dressed blonde beauties, even Aki’s strong will couldn’t hold out as long as usual. The research session ended up a good bit shorter than normal.
At one point, he suggested that Seris and Liala should get dressed properly.
Seris answered, “I can’t just leave alone—you’d have to come with me.”
Truth be told, Seris really wanted to change back into her own clothes. Ravel’s outfit was naturally tempting, and on Seris’s smaller frame, it looked downright dirty—the fit was impossibly small, showing off everything in ways that were simply not right.
Thankfully, they were at home. If she’d gone out dressed like that, the good Hero Schoolgirl would’ve been so embarrassed that she’d have asked Aki to take her shopping for something more modest.
Liala, of course, refused to let Aki leave. Since Seris couldn’t change, she wasn’t about to be the only one properly dressed.
They’d pushed the Contact Magic research forward by about five percent when, well before lunchtime, Aki decided to start cultivation instead.
His partner: Liala, who’d been ready and waiting for ages.
As for Seris—never mind the Life Energy from that morning’s workout; she still hadn’t fully taken in yesterday’s batch. Even if she wanted cultivation time, she couldn’t think of a good excuse.
But once Liala was fully spent, Seris got her turn after all.
Because they’d cut research short to start cultivation early, none of the three showed up for lunch. Sephie, who’d just begun to soften her attitude that morning, was back to being in a bad mood.
Fortunately, thanks to Aki’s direct approach, she wasn’t thinking any thoughts of leaving this time.
Women are strange creatures. They’ll have a need—clearly know it, even—but they still go looking for some reason, some “acceptable” excuse, before they’ll take that final step.
The goal is simple: to avoid doing something that feels shameful or cliché.
Any woman who hasn’t completely given up her sense of shame—who hasn’t been fully trained out of it—follows this rule, even if her nature is naturally loose.
The more reserved ones can’t even bring themselves to start with their own husbands or boyfriends.
They’ll be wanting it, practically dying inside, but they can’t just say it directly. Instead, they’ll drop hints, make things unclear—”seduce” is too strong a word, but they’ll do everything but ask directly, forcing the man to make the first move.
Aki figured this out after getting rid of all outside noise and going through a whole lot of beauties. It’s one of those basic truths he’s come to understand.
Pretty much every virgin woman fits this pattern, and even experienced wives and mothers check most of the boxes, eight or nine times out of ten.
Understanding this is huge when it comes to winning women over.
A lot of guys get big-headed because they’ve got something going for them—money, good looks, whatever—and they walk around with this better-than-you, braggy energy when they talk to girls.
Others jump straight to dirty jokes and rude pickup lines, thinking that’s the way to score.
But honestly? That approach usually backfires. The success rate drops.
Here’s the thing: even the most “free” woman isn’t going to look at some guy she barely knows and go, “Yeah, I want you, Rias-brother-make-a-move-on-me.” That’s just not how it works.
Women don’t show want directly. They hide it. They wrap it in prettier boxes.
If she likes a rich guy, she won’t say, “I want his money.” She’ll say, “He can give me safety.”
If he’s handsome, it’s not, “He’s hot.” It’s, “He’s easy on the eyes—there’s a connection.”
And if he’s well-endowed and skilled? That becomes, “He’s healthy” or “He makes me happy.”
They’ll always find a reason that sounds good—even to themselves. They lie to themselves before they lie to anyone else.
Not that this is a bad thing. Everybody’s got pride. And the more beautiful and high-status a woman is, the more face she’s got to protect. That’s just human nature.
Men and women alike are built to chase the best partners they can get.
Sure, shared history and emotional connection can matter—but for the most part, it’s about the outside stuff.
Otherwise, why are there so many simps out there?
Even Aki—his starting point was his pretty-boy looks and that natural Charisma Talent aura.
After that came the special Dual Cultivation ability, the fast power growth, and all the rest.
Emotion and shared experience? That came later.
Once he understood all this, it didn’t change much else besides making it easier to figure out how to approach women.
The real key is seeing past the surface and knowing what a woman actually wants—then giving it to her.
Right now, what Sephie needs is someone who can fix her Basara Toujou problem. And if that someone is powerful enough to help her save Raphaelene too? Even better.
She feels guilty about what happened to Raphaelene. If it weren’t for helping her, Raphaelene wouldn’t have done the surrogacy—wouldn’t have been punished by Heaven and locked up all this time.
She’s sorry about it, sure. But she’s also called Raphaelene stubborn and dumb more than a few times.
Aki’s the one who best fits what Sephie needs right now. He’s also got all the qualities she’d look for in a partner.
If he weren’t so ridiculously loose—and if she didn’t have all that other weight weighing on her—even with the whole Liala-sharing situation, Sephie would have made her move by now.
Unfortunately, it’s not just Liala. There’s also Naruse Mio and Maria, her two nieces. Her close friend and former sister-in-law Shela is in the mix too. And then there’s a whole classroom’s worth of other beauties. All of it keeps Sephie from giving in.
But after hearing Aki’s words, she’s finally known her own heart.
She still has doubts, though. She doesn’t want to carry around guilt or get mixed up in some messy situation.
How’s she supposed to explain this to Basara Toujou? And will Aki really let her take the lead?
The biggest problem—the one that’s been eating at her for nearly twenty years—is Basara Toujou himself. Blood relation or not, she’s still his mother, even if magic was involved. Until that gets fixed, Sephie can’t seriously think about a partner.
Sephie’s worries didn’t last long. A few days later, Basara Toujou and Jin Toujou returned together.
The Toujou Residence was right next door. The moment they arrived, word reached Aki’s place.
But just as Aki was about to call Sephie over to meet them, she stopped.
”Th-That’s too sudden… I’m not ready yet.”
”You’ve been ‘getting ready’ for years. How is that not enough?”
Aki shot back, annoyed. But no matter what he said, the Valkyrie—usually so decisive—wouldn’t move.
He rubbed his head. “Women really are a pain.”
He gave up trying to persuade her.
Typical. When it comes to matters of the heart, even the strongest women become mysteriously hard to handle.
”Fine. I’ll go talk to Basara first. He can come see you tomorrow. That work?”
”T-Tomorrow? Isn’t that rushing it?”
”I don’t know if you’re rushing, but I sure am,” Aki said flatly. “You can also skip it completely—but after this, I won’t have time to keep dragging this out.”
In his view, this was an easy fix. Blood relations are a thing, sure, but Basara and Sephie had never met. They had no real bond.
If she’d chosen to leave him, that’d be one thing. But she didn’t leave Basara. She was forced into the situation.
Meeting him now shouldn’t be much different from those mothers who give up their children, only to connect later and expect the kid to take care of them…
Except Sephie and Raphaelene had been forced into it. And that could be explained to Basara directly.
But Sephie clearly didn’t see it that way. In her mind, as a mother, she’d had the power to act differently—but for the sake of her plans, she’d gone all these years without raising Basara Toujou. That guilt was real, even if she hadn’t done anything wrong.
Sephie was truly a Valkyrie. Sharp as a tack when it came to fighting and plans. But faced with something like this? She was more flustered than an average woman.
Aki turned and left, not bothering to ask for her opinion anymore. If he didn’t push, there was no way this would ever get fixed.
Watching his back, Sephie bit her pink lips. With a mix of worry and hope, she went back to her room.
She wanted to solve this too. But she had no idea how to face it.
Aki walked through the iron gate of the yard and saw Jin and Basara cleaning the entrance.
”Afternoon, Uncle Toujou. Afternoon, Basara.”
”Afternoon, Aki.”
Jin cut in before Basara could answer. “You’re here to see Basara, right? I’ll leave you kids to chat. An old man like me has no business getting in the way of young people’s talks.”
With a showy move and a lit cigarette, Jin wandered into the yard—clearly taking the chance to slack off.
After learning about this world’s Basara Toujou’s background, Aki felt nothing unusual even if he was about to make a move on Sephie. No emotional charge at all—nothing like when he’d NTR’d Tsuki and Obata Natsumi in the past.
Not that he’d ever bothered to keep quiet about it. Jin probably had some interest in Sephie and Raphaelene—what man wouldn’t be drawn to a pair of beautiful, powerful, sexy women?
But if Jin learned of Aki’s plans now, he’d probably just be a little sour. He wouldn’t get twisted up and feel NTR’d.
If Jin didn’t have that level of emotional understanding, he wouldn’t have cultivated himself into being called the “War God.”
Still, Jin was truly Basara’s father—both by blood and by upbringing. Aki owed his friend Basara that much respect.
So Aki nodded politely, waited for Jin to wander off, and lowered his voice to speak with Basara.
”How’d the training go? Want to spar a bit? Test the results?”
Aki grinned, looking over Basara’s more muscular build and sharper features.
”Pass,” Basara said, waving a hand. “No matter how much I improve, I’ll never keep up with your growth rate.”
”Oh? What makes you say that?”
Basara shot Aki a sideways look. “I can’t even beat half of my dad’s strength. And you wiped out the Child of Chaos like it was nothing.”
Aki blinked. “Uncle Toujou told you?”
He’d thought the Toujous had been cut off from outside news during training. Clearly, he’d understated Jin the “War God.”
Even when keeping Basara away for training, Jin stayed connected to the outside world. Though… there was a delay. Otherwise, Jin wouldn’t have found out nearly a month late about an event that big.
”Yeah, I was planning to train until I hit Demon King-class and then head to the Underworld to help out…” Basara sighed. “But I was still trying to find the second door, and you’d already finished.”
That “second door” was part of Jin’s special training plan for Basara. Three doors total: Body, Will, and Soul.
Break through each, and with Basara’s bloodline, Demon King-class would come naturally. Finish the Soul Metamorphosis, and he’d reach God-tier.
Unfortunately for Basara, his top-tier talent and growth speed still couldn’t catch up to Aki’s.
After a month, Basara had just seen Demon King-class, when Jin got the latest news.
After looking at it, they realized the whole thing had been over barely three days after their training began.
It happened so fast it was almost hard to believe—and no major group had been ready. That speed had a ripple effect across the world.
With that goal gone, Basara had lost his drive.
They decided to head back home. At least this way, Basara could make it back for final exams.
Basara wasn’t part of a Hero Clan. He planned to live a normal life among ordinary people. He didn’t want to rely on power or his inheritance. If he was doing this right, he’d probably end up a company worker—good grades would help.
Aki privately thought it was stupid to have power and not use it. Even if you didn’t want to use it wrongly, you could still make easy money and live comfortably.
But some people just wanted a normal, ordinary life. Basara Toujou had grown up different; maybe he wanted the usual.
It was a personal issue, and Aki wasn’t going to tell him about it.
After catching up—and confirming Basara had no interest in sparring, even seeming a bit ready to give up—Aki brought up Sephie and Raphaelene.
Chisato Hasegawa had confirmed Raphaelene was still in prison, so the focus was Sephie.
Sephie had gotten involved, sure. But besides Aki and his group, no one knew she and Liala were involved.
When Aki told him, Basara clearly froze. Even after Aki finished speaking, Basara hadn’t fully processed it.
He’d thought about meeting his two unknown mothers. Planned to save Raphaelene. But hearing that one of them was right next door? That hit different.
But men and women are different. After a moment’s pause, Basara got his head together and agreed to meet Sephie the next day.
Aki hadn’t used magic to hide their talk. If Jin wanted to listen, he’d hear. But it didn’t matter much—once Basara went to meet Sephie, Jin would know anyway. It was just a matter of when.
And Jin was a needed part of the process. Sephie’s issues couldn’t be fixed without dealing with him.
The next evening, the Toujous came calling.
They brought gifts and had clearly dressed up for the occasion.
Naruse Mio and Maria led them to the living room, then signaled the Brüntes—who’d been serving as maids—that they could start dinner.
Tonight, the living room had been set aside just for this.
Only Naruse Mio, Maria, and Aki were present. Shela, Lucia, and Liala were waiting in their rooms. Rias and the others had stepped out completely.
Aki sat in the head seat. He reached under the table and gently took Sephie’s thin hand.
”Relax. I can’t speak for Jin’s nature, but Basara’s a good kid. He was raised right.”
”Mhmm…”
With Aki’s comfort, Sephie steadied herself.
That calm broke the moment she saw the Toujous walk in dressed formally.
It was Basara she focused on. Jin barely got a look before she pushed him out completely.
”Oh no—I forgot to change!” She looked down at her revealing battle outfit and panicked. First impressions mattered, and she was wearing this.
She was a Valkyrie, sharp and commanding. She had plenty of beautiful dresses in her closet. But she wasn’t Amano Yuuma (Raynare)—no quick-costume-change talent. Changing now was impossible.
Aki laughed. “Basara, you’re just coming over for dinner. No need to be so formal.”
Everyone except the Toujous was in casual wear. The formal clothes made them stand out.
Basara—ever the honest kid—immediately threw his father under the bus. “I’m not comfortable in this either, but Dad insisted. Said we had to make a good impression…”
”Ahem!”
Jin reached over and ruffled Basara’s spiky hair, cutting off the explanation.
”Sephie. Long time no see.”
He set down the gifts, took off his jacket, and tried to look casual. “We weren’t trying to be too formal—but as an elder coming to dinner, I couldn’t be too sloppy.”
”Mm. Long time.”
Sephie barely said a word to him before focusing back on Basara.
When she saw he wasn’t looking at her with clear dislike, she finally relaxed a little. Even with her figure and outfit—neither of which could look bad—she’d been nervous about meeting the son she felt she’d wronged.
Aki watched Sephie’s reaction. He’d never seen her this worried with him.
The thought passed quickly; he wasn’t jealous. The look in her eyes when she looked at Basara was different from the way she looked at him—guilt and care, but nothing romantic.
At most, there was some family love there.
Besides, her hand was still under the table in his. And that long, thin leg in sheer tights was pressed right against his thigh.
As the food arrived, Basara and Jin took their seats across the table.
Basara was on Aki’s right—directly across from Sephie.
Naruse Mio and Maria sat below Sephie. Jin faced them.
Tonight’s stars were Sephie and Basara. Aki, with his special position, made it a group of three.
What special position? The scumbag who wants to sleep with his best friend’s mother, obviously.
—
Summary:
Aki’s research session with Seris and Liala gets cut short for cultivation, leaving Sephie in a bad mood after their earlier argument. Aki gives a long internal analysis of female psychology and Sephie’s specific worries, then takes the lead to set up a meeting between Sephie and the returning Toujous. Sephie panics over her outfit and her worry, but the meeting with Basara finally takes place at dinner.
—
Trivia:
Seris is still wearing Ravel’s outfit because it’s too small and revealing—she’s truly uncomfortable but can’t change without Aki’s help.
Liala and Seris both get cultivation time after the Contact Magic research session is cut short.
Aki’s internal talk about women comes from his personal experience after taking away outside influence and dealing with many women.
The “Rias-brother-make-a-move-on-me” line is on purpose broken English in the source—a joke line.
Sephie has known about Basara Toujou for twenty years but has never met him because of her plans and guilt.
Jin Toujou and Basara returned because Basara’s training became pointless after Aki beat the Child of Chaos in three days.
Basara is training to open three doors: Body, Will, and Soul—he was still working on the second when they stopped.
Jin Toujou is known as the “War God” and is seen as emotionally smart enough not to feel threatened by Aki’s interest in Sephie.
Sephie has a long list of complications: Liala, Naruse Mio, Maria, Shela, and many other beauties all share Aki’s attention.
The Brüntes are serving as maids at Aki’s home.
Sephie is a Valkyrie, meaning she’s both a warrior and a goddess figure.
Raphaelene is Sephie’s friend who was punished by Heaven and put in prison after a surrogacy arrangement.
Aki’s “special position” at the dinner is being the scumbag who wants to sleep with his best friend’s mother.
Jin Toujou was the one who gave Basara his training plan and the three-door system.
The Hero Clan is an organization Basara does not belong to—he wants to live a normal civilian life, maybe as a company worker.
Sephie has called Raphaelene “stubborn and dumb” many times despite feeling guilty about her imprisonment.
The Toujous live next door to Aki’s home.
Aki’s talk with Basara about Sephie wasn’t magically hidden—Jin could have listened if he wanted to.
Chisato Hasegawa confirmed Raphaelene is still in prison, which is why the focus moved to Sephie.
Sephie’s sudden panic upon seeing Basara was about not having changed into formal clothes for their first meeting.
