Chapter 472 Loki
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Sirzechs’ speech ended quickly, with no long-winded oratory.
Formalities wouldn’t work here, and everyone present was a pragmatist who didn’t need such empty ceremony.
”Lord Odin, if you have no objections, please press your seal onto the Monument of Covenant.”
”Mm.”
In response to Sirzechs’ question, the Northern Chief God Odin naturally nodded immediately.
Having decided to attend this banquet, these matters had all been discussed in advance.
The preceding proceedings were merely a formality, and also an opportunity to let the younger generation understand the circumstances.
Otherwise, even if the higher-ups concluded a Peace Contract, their subordinates would still be fighting to the death every day.
Just as Odin touched the gray-white obelisk on the stage, a piercing cry of “I object!” shattered the solemn atmosphere of the hall.
Odin paused his hand and looked toward the source of the voice, speaking with calm resignation: “So it was you after all… What a foolish man.”
Above the banquet hall, black-blue Mana surged, and a vertical Magic Circle appeared.
Then it split down the middle, like two great doors swinging open, and from within floated a bewitching young man with pale blue long hair.
The male deity who had voiced his objection looked down upon the assembled faction leaders: “I am Loki, the true God of the North.”
Fallen Angel Governor General Shemhaza smiled faintly. “Well now, this is quite the unexpected guest.”
”Lord Loki, even as a Norse deity, you have no right to cause a disturbance here.”
Michael spoke up in condemnation.
Loki answered with arrogance: “Allowing our Chief God to make contact with another mythological system is an unbearable torment for me.”
”Loki, return to Valhalla immediately, and I may still pardon you.” Odin gazed at Loki, issuing a final warning.
”Pardon me? Don’t make me laugh, you old fossil.”
Odin said nothing, merely watching Loki with composure.
Compared to Odin’s calm, Rossweisse beside him was far more agitated.
”How dare you speak to the Chief God like that!”
”If we forge peace with another mythological system, won’t the Ragnarok we should embrace become impossible to achieve?”
Loki said this as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Over spans of time measured in tens of thousands of years, the people within each mythological system had turned over generation after generation, yet those who ascended to the positions of corresponding gods seemed to share broadly similar personalities and methods of operation.
That Loki would want to stir up trouble was no surprise to Odin whatsoever.
That he would personally declare Ragnarok aloud—no one present was surprised either.
In this era, humanity was gradually becoming the protagonist, and the affairs of the various mythological factions were no longer secrets.
Aki even suspected that the various factions’ desire to conclude a Peace Contract was a disguised way of extending their era.
If left unchecked, the Age of Decline would arrive all too soon.
When that time came, every supernatural being without exception would fall into dormancy.
Those of great power might still have a chance to awaken in the next era, but those whose strength was insufficient would truly dissipate from the world forever.
Of course, this was merely Aki’s speculation.
After all, judging from the overall state of this world, it was clearly in its prime, with all manner of geniuses and powerful figures emerging in an endless stream.
Perhaps Michael and Sirzechs truly did love peace.
Ragnarok, or whatever chaos there might be, was merely an excuse for the Khaos Brigade and Loki to stir up trouble.
Or perhaps something had happened at the Eternal Battlefield, and the DXD world faced the risk of invasion, which was why they had decided to preserve their combat strength and form an alliance to face the coming war.
Aki couldn’t be bothered to investigate which scenario was the case. In any event, increasing one’s strength was never the wrong choice.
Whether facing the Age of Decline, enemies of the Khaos Brigade, or invasions from other worlds, immense power was always the best solution.
”Hey, I feel like I’ve heard this argument somewhere before.”
Shemhaza glanced at Loki. “You must have already colluded with the Khaos Brigade.”
”I admit we have a relationship of mutual assistance.”
Loki made no attempt to conceal it. By appearing here to object, he had long since prepared to completely tear off the mask of civility.
Having spoken, he swept his right arm violently and shouted: “Come forth, my dear child!”
Blue-black Magic Circles crackling with lightning appeared once more, and from within emerged a colossal wolf-like demon beast.
Unlike an ordinary wolf, a pair of ox-like curved horns grew from its back.
”Go!”
At Loki’s command, the magical beast began its assault.
Facing a divine being’s attack, the younger generation had virtually no ability to fight back. Even Rias and her group, who were at the Demon King-class level, could only protect themselves while providing cover for the accompanying Sona Sitri and her entourage.
Seeing Loki shamelessly attack the younger generation, the leaders of the three great factions were furious.
Byakusa alone was enough to hold back the rampaging wolf-like demon beasts.
”Full of openings.”
Beelzebub, one of the Four Great Satans, let out a disdainful snort and easily trapped Loki in a pocket dimension.
He hadn’t bothered to step forward to greet anyone earlier—he simply couldn’t be bothered.
As one of the Four Great Satans, even if his power was somewhat below Sirzechs’, his strength was still formidable.
Despite Serafall’s airheaded demeanor, her true power was far beyond the Demon King-class.
Just like Michael—though still classified as an Angel, his strength was in no way inferior to that of a god.
Without this level of power, it was impossible to hold one’s ground and lead one’s race among the multitude of mythological systems.
But their existence was more akin to a deterrent—they rarely engaged in actual combat.
An apt analogy would be nuclear weapons: even if they had to be used, they absolutely must not be deployed on their own territory.
Through the Soul Network, Aki learned that the farce at the banquet had concluded.
Although he didn’t know where Beelzebub had sent Loki, it was clear that Loki wouldn’t be able to cause any more waves at this gathering.
”It’s about time. I’ll play with you lot next time.”
Aki had held back the entire time, doing nothing but defending, while Kuroka and Sun Wukong attacked like mad, leaving themselves panting for breath.
This was the absolute crushing of power—not even the slightest chance of victory.
When Aki learned through the Soul Network that Loki had been banished and sealed, Sun Wukong had also received the news through the Khaos Brigade’s unique communication methods.
He had originally been counting on Loki coming to their aid. Now…
He summoned the Somersault Cloud, grabbed Kuroka, and prepared to flee.
”Hey, hey—I said I’d play with you next time, but that doesn’t mean I’m letting you leave.”
For the first time, Aki saw the Somersault Cloud, unsure whether it was still the same one the Great Sage once possessed, but its speed was indeed remarkable.
However, it still fell slightly short of a serious Aki.
Just as the two were about to fly into a teleportation Magic Circle, Aki arrived in time and snatched the black-haired, large-breasted catgirl into his arms.
Kuroka naturally tried to resist, but to Aki, it was truly as powerless as a kitten struggling.
”Stop that.”
”Mew…” Kuroka’s voluptuous body stiffened, and an unnatural blush crept across her face.
Aki squeezed the base of Kuroka’s long, shapely thigh and called out toward the Magic Circle: “Sun Wukong—give Vali a message for me. I’m taking Kuroka. Don’t worry about her. I’m just reuniting the sisters.”
Without caring whether Sun Wukong, who had already teleported away, had heard, Aki carried his “trophy” over to the cat-eared loli.
”Koneko, she’s all yours. If you want to let her go, that’s fine too.”
Kuroka’s Mana and Stamina were nearly depleted, and she was no match for Koneko, who had fully recovered.
Aki handed Kuroka over to Koneko, letting the two sisters resolve their household dispute on their own.
”Oh right—Koneko, you don’t need to participate in what’s coming next. Just take Kuroka back to the Human World directly.”
”But what about you, Aki-Senpai?” Koneko supported her suddenly silent older sister, asking in puzzlement.
”The Khaos Brigade side is handled, but there’s still the most troublesome one over there who hasn’t been dealt with.”
Through the Soul Network, Aki had been monitoring the situation at the venue all along.
Loki’s banishment and sealing was not the end of the matter. This notorious evil god of the North would not be so easily dealt with.
Now Sirzechs and the others were waiting for Odin to retrieve Mjolnir—this Sacred Gear specifically designed for suppressing Loki—to seal him away in one fell swoop.
By the time Aki arrived, the banquet had already dispersed, and only a group of faction leaders remained, frowning at the pyramid that contained Loki’s seal.
The entire pyramid was green in color, with magnificent magical radiance flickering across its surface.
Alpha Beelzebub—the new generation Demon King who had inherited the name of the Demon King Beelzebub. His Mana was green, and this seal had been maintained by him the entire time.
But even he could only maintain the seal for approximately one day.
”One day? That short?”
Rias furrowed her brow, somewhat worried.
Because her strength and status were insufficient, she only now learned of the conversation between Sirzechs and the others through Aki.
Though Aki was nominally her Peerage, whether in terms of his identity as the Red Dragon Emperor or his strength, he was more than qualified to participate in discussions among faction leaders.
Not only Rias, but everyone from the Divine Research Society and Sona Sitri’s group were also present.
That Aki had become a God-class powerhouse was no secret, though only Sirzechs knew he had already reached the Sub-Dragon God-Class realm.
After all, having caused that commotion with the Ten Core Gods, it would have been impossible to keep it from everyone.
If not for Sirzechs helping to cover for him, everyone would likely already know his true strength.
”Mm. They also said that if Loki forcefully breaks through the seal and attacks again this time, a direct confrontation will be unavoidable…”
Aki spread his hands, a helpless expression on his face.
”If the Demon King-class representatives of each faction go to intercept him, it could trigger the same great war that happened in the past…”
Rias crossed her arms and asked: “Is that right?”
Of course, when she said “Demon King-class,” she was referring to the leader-level existences of each faction who stood in opposition to Loki.
”Yes. If that happens, it will be like the Ragnarok Loki spoke of.”
Aki nodded. He too found this situation frustrating.
He could understand it—it was like the wars between nations in his previous world.
Fighting was one thing, but once nuclear weapons were deployed, it would be World War III.
”As the Khaos Brigade proclaims—chaos born from war marks the beginning of the end.”
The accompanying Sona Sitri also analyzed: “I fear that is precisely his purpose.”
”If only Mjolnir could arrive in time,” Himejima Akeno said.
Rias turned to Aki. “Is there really no other way?”
”No. Last time it was in a pocket dimension within the Divine Realm. Even if I wanted to intervene, I can’t this time.”
Aki wasn’t sure of Loki’s exact strength, but he doubted it had reached the Dragon God-level.
If he had Dragon God-level power—top-tier strength like that of Ophis—he would have rebelled long ago, and even Odin’s Mjolnir would be useless.
Aki had also proposed that he personally suppress or even kill Loki, but the result would be the same.
He was deeply bound to the Underworld, particularly to the Gremory household. If the two of them engaged in a life-or-death battle, it would be like lighting a fuse, quickly triggering an all-out war.
With the Khaos Brigade secretly stirring up trouble, the faction leaders had no way to fully control their own subordinates.
”Actually, it’s not completely hopeless.”
After a moment of hesitation, Aki said: “We can delay Loki’s time of breaking through the seal. As long as Odin arrives with Mjolnir, Loki won’t be able to cause any more trouble.”
”However, only those below God-class can enter the Barrier, and at most ten people. Otherwise, Beelzebub’s seal won’t hold.”
He hadn’t wanted to mention this plan, because once he did, Rias would definitely insist on going.
But even if he didn’t say it, Rias would soon think of it herself, and she would volunteer for the mission regardless.
Even with Loki sealed, he remained an extremely dangerous entity for Rias and the others.
Teleporting inside the Barrier to interfere with his forced breakthrough was essentially staking their lives to buy time.
If not for the safety net of the Soul Contract, he would never have agreed.
Sure enough, Rias immediately requested to see Sirzechs.
Besides her, Sona Sitri also volunteered.
And Sirzechs and Serafall actually agreed.
Whether they had confidence in their sisters, or were simply that carefree, it was hard to say.
A total of ten could enter. Among them were Rias, Himejima Akeno, Xenovia, Sona Sitri, Shinra Tsubaki—five women. Irina and Rossweisse also volunteered.
They hadn’t reached ten, but there were no more willing volunteers.
Actually, if Rias wished, she could have called Asia and the others from the Human World—not just three, even thirty would be possible.
But this wasn’t a matter where more people were necessarily better. Sona Sitri had only brought Shinra Tsubaki, and the rest of her Peerage had not participated.
After a brief rest, they took the intelligence provided by Greyfia, along with three bottles of Phoenix Tears generously donated by the Phoenix Clan. The seven-member all-girl strike team set out.
Worth noting: while Rias and the others wore uniforms as their combat attire, Rossweisse, as a Valkyrie, possessed her own exclusive set of combat armor.
This armor inherited the hallmarks of Japanese anime, looking even more risqué than some ordinary women’s clothing.
Among the seven on the mission, only she and Rossweisse lacked the safety net of the Soul Contract.
In terms of combat ability, Sona Sitri was still somewhat inferior to the Valkyries who served beside Odin.
Therefore, the bottles containing the three drops of Phoenix Tears were all entrusted to her.
The battle within the seal Barrier could not be seen from the outside, but communication was not cut off.
In addition to Aki being able to communicate with Rias and the others through the Soul Network, Rossweisse could also contact the outside world using her Valkyrie equipment.
”We’ll be fighting together again, Xenovia.” Irina looked at her good friend beside her and blinked.
”Mm.”
Xenovia hesitated. “Even though it’s a bit awkward for me to say, as someone who became a Devil through Reincarnation…”
”You’re saying it’s too dangerous, right?”
Irina was nonchalant and saw through her friend’s concerns in an instant.
Everyone understood the resurrection effect of the Soul Contract, but unless absolutely necessary, no one truly wanted to die.
”Sona, are you really going to participate?”
Shinra Tsubaki pulled Sona Sitri aside and tried to persuade her. “You haven’t undergone Dual cultivation with Aki, and you haven’t signed a Soul Contract. If something happens…”
”Tsubaki, I know you’re worried about me.”
Sona Sitri spoke in a tone that brooked no argument. “But to realize my dream, this is a step I must take.”
Hearing this, Aki’s curiosity was piqued. He leaned over and asked: “The President’s dream?”
”To establish a Rating Game school in the Underworld that even low-ranking Devils can attend—that is the President’s dream.”
”I see…”
”But what does that have to do with this situation?”
”A school for low-ranking Devils…” Shinra Tsubaki looked at Sona Sitri’s earnest expression and said softly: “A great many Devils think the President’s dream is foolish.”
Aki nodded. “Indeed. After all, Devils have a class-based society.”
”Right. But after concluding a Peace Contract with other mythological systems, even the most stubborn elements of Devil society will have to change.”
On the other hand, peace was an essential prerequisite for developing education and the like.
Aki didn’t try to dissuade her further. Since it was merely about buying time, and she had three full-heal opportunities, with Sona Sitri’s battle intelligence, a full party wipe was highly unlikely unless the entire team was eliminated.
As for wanting to make all seven of them a complete wipe—
If Loki could fight without any restrictions and unleash his full divine power, he might be able to achieve that.
But as long as Rias and the others focused on stalling and he couldn’t attack at full power, it would be absolutely impossible to wipe them all out in a short time.
Even so, Aki was prepared to break in at a moment’s notice.
If Sona Sitri truly found herself in mortal danger, he would tear this space apart, even at the risk of triggering a large-scale war, to force his way in and rescue her.
”It’s time to go.”
Rias’ voice rang out, pulling everyone’s attention back.
Small talk could wait—there would be plenty of time for that later. But right now, if they didn’t focus, they could very well die.
The green pyramid emitted a powerful Mana fluctuation, and then the seven women appeared within the seal Barrier.
Seeing Loki floating in the air, draining the Barrier’s energy, Rossweisse was the first to speak.
”Lord Loki, turning your blade against the Chief God is an unforgivable transgression. You should have stated your position through proper channels.”
Loki completely ignored her words and said, more to himself: “One of Odin’s Valkyries, I see. I’ve heard you’re quite talented, but you’re still far from being a god.”
Rossweisse’s eyes sharpened. “You won’t listen to a single word…”
”Hmph. As an appetizer for Ragnarok, this is rather lacking.”
Having spoken, Loki directly summoned his magical beast army.
The first was the giant wolf Fenrir with twin horns on its back, then Fenrir’s offspring, Hati and Skoll.
Before the group could finish being astonished, blue lightning flashed, and a colossal serpent larger than Fenrir—small mountain-sized—was summoned.
”That is one of the Five Great Dragon Kings, the World Serpent, Jormungandr.”
Rossweisse explained the origins of the magical beasts for everyone.
