Chapter 498 Dimensional Rift
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The night continued. So did the time for Aki and the two girls.
After tasting every inch of Bannya, he brought Ruruko to the balcony.
After the balcony came the living room, kitchen, bathroom, toilet…
Until the sky turned white, Aki had only just finished with the two limp schoolgirls.
…
A month later, Rias and Sona Sitri graduated. Then spring break came.
That month, Aki was busy with the Divine Research Society and Student Council handover. He also helped the Student Council girls improve, trying to catch up to the Divine Research Society.
Even though he was mostly hands-off, having been idle for so long made him feel annoyed and tired.
Not physically. Mentally.
Spring break was short, about ten days. Just as Aki planned to rest, Sirzechs and the other faction leaders came again.
”No way… I have to go? With that Vali guy?”
Hearing their intent, he started complaining.
”And you come now of all times.”
Earlier, he’d still worry about school. Later, at least he could rest a few days and skip the new semester’s troubles.
”We just found out~” Serafall blinked. “Please go, little Aki. No one’s more suitable.”
”Just some dimensional fluctuations. Even if we ignore it, it’ll be fine.”
Aki didn’t want to go. Especially a risky job with no benefits.
The problem was simple. Because of the recent war, Great Red had shown a power projection. The faction leaders sensed something was wrong.
Normally, even breaking space wouldn’t show Great Red. Dimensional gaps and space were completely different concepts.
Breaking space didn’t mean going to another dimension.
Like space slash was just a magic attack. Basara Toujou’s Banishing Shift was rule-level. Completely different.
After investigation, they found the real cause.
Loki’s remaining power had been destroying the boundaries between dimensions.
Loki tried to start Ragnarok. Though he failed, part of his power had already activated.
After Aki killed him, Loki poured almost all his remaining power and consciousness into that part.
His goal was to destroy dimensional barriers, causing all parallel worlds to collide and starting a true Ragnarok.
Sirzechs wanted Aki to enter the dimensional rift and destroy Loki’s remaining power.
Why not go themselves?
One, as faction leaders, they couldn’t take such risks. Two, they weren’t strong enough and weren’t welcome by Great Red.
Dealing with Loki’s power was one thing. But if they missed it and met Great Red first…
Just coming back intact would be a win!
Since Ophis felt close to Aki, they thought Great Red might also be friendly.
To this, Aki didn’t know what to say.
He didn’t know why he clicked with Ophis either. And Ophis and Great Red were both Dragon God-level. Not the same person… not the same dragon.
”For years, Great Red has guarded the dimensional rift. That’s how we keep peace with other worlds. If he notices, he might destroy that power himself.”
Seeing Aki was really reluctant, Sirzechs urged again. “If you sense danger, just come back. No problem.”
”Right. Failure’s fine. But try if you can.”
Odin said seriously, “Didn’t expect Loki to leave this last trick.”
”I know Loki, the trickster god, had many methods. But I didn’t expect you Norse gods to only notice now.”
Aki complained.
Odin sighed and slightly bowed.
Glancing at Rosswiesse in the Divine Research Society, Aki said nothing more.
Rias had been trying to recruit Rosswiesse to the underworld. Better offers than Norse. It was working.
This future hundred-yen valkyrie really valued money.
If not for her combat power, he’d suspect any rich guy could buy her.
Of course, she was simple and rigid. Not stupid.
Anyone trying that would get lightning magic before undressing.
”Little Aki, do us this favor~”
Serafall used her female advantage. Everyone present was family. Ignoring status, she grabbed his arm and acted cute.
”When you come back, I’ll have Sona give you a reward~”
”…”
Sona blushed and glared at her. “No! You do it yourself!”
”Mm~ That works too~”
Serafall put her cheek on her hand, acting enlightened.
Knowing she was being teased, Sona still couldn’t help protesting. “Sister!”
Aki glanced at the softness pressed on his arm. He didn’t hide his desire.
”Deal. Hope Serafall-sama keeps her word.”
”Ah?”
Now Serafall was stunned. Everyone knew Aki’s personality. He wasn’t joking.
Serafall naturally felt his interest. She didn’t expect him to be this bold.
She quickly let go and apologized to Sona. “Sorry, sorry, just joking…”
She looked at Aki.
But he ignored her and directly discussed with Sirzechs. “I understand. When do I leave?”
Since it wasn’t his promise, Sirzechs ignored Serafall’s pleading look. “Sooner the better.”
”Fine. I’ll prepare. Leave in an hour.”
Seeing no one responding, Serafall stomped her foot. She worried about what to do when he returned.
She was all talk. Usually dressed sexy. Liked teasing Sona. But she’d never even held hands with a man.
A keyboard warrior.
After the Three-Way War, the underworld civil war, then becoming one of the Four Great Satans, even if she wanted a boyfriend, she had no time.
Of the new Four Great Satans, besides Sirzechs marrying former enemy Greyfia, the rest were single.
Saying he’d prepare, Aki had little to prepare. Mainly organizing Sirzechs’ intel.
More than Loki’s power clone, he was interested in the dimensional rift and other worlds.
As the Three Realms’ top figures, they knew about other worlds.
Right. They knew about the Eternal Battlefield. They’d join if needed. Naturally they knew other worlds.
Aki only knew EXE and FXF bordered DxD. But he knew nothing about them.
This little intel was from looking up the anime online.
After understanding the dimensional rift and what to expect, time was up.
”Ready? Everyone’s waiting.”
Just after he said goodbye to Rias, Vali spoke impatiently.
Aki glanced at him. “You can go first. No one’s stopping you.”
”Heh. Without us, you can’t even enter the dimensional rift.”
Vali sneered. “If the old men didn’t insist we wait, you think I’d want to go with you?”
As they talked, the blonde man named Arthur summoned golden magic circles. A sword with golden aura slowly formed.
Besides them, Sun Wukong and Kuroka were also coming.
Aki looked at them, too lazy to argue.
He could force his way into the dimensional rift. But that took effort. It’d also anger Great Red.
If someone breaks your door down, anyone would be unhappy.
”This is the Pendragon family’s holy sword, Colbrand, the Holy King Sword.”
Arthur pushed his glasses. “It controls space. Cuts dimensions.”
”…”
Looking at the sword, Aki wanted to complain. But thinking of all the Sacred Gears, especially the thirteen absurd ones, he accepted it.
Compared to personal strength, powerful weapons had more presence.
If anything was closer to the world’s root concept, it was even more absurd and ethereal will and emotion.
With enough will and emotion, even crossing three major realms to kill was possible.
Aki remembered that later, even Great Red was beheaded in the dimensional rift by a human with a Sacred Gear.
Through weapon strength and will-power converted into power.
That was why, even though Boosted Gear was useless early on, he never unbinded it.
And he kept deepening bonds with Rias.
When it came to who cheats harder, he was confident.
Aki was silent, so Vali dropped it.
He wasn’t one for arguing. He just disliked Aki. But he didn’t dare go too far. He couldn’t read Aki’s strength anymore. That meant Aki was far above him.
Now he understood why Sirzechs insisted on Aki coming.
Dealing with a Loki remnant, they were enough. But unexpected situations? Not sure.
With Aki, even if they met Great Red or dimensional storms, they could return safely.
Though Vali was Sirzechs’ descendant and from the Khaos Brigade, he was raised by Fallen Angels. He still had good relations with them.
When needed, they cooperated.
He and his Peerage didn’t cause major damage to any faction.
More than the Khaos Brigade, they were mercenaries between factions. Only existing to defeat strong enemies.
Sirzechs didn’t want Vali’s trouble. Aki didn’t bother either.
Having a White Dragon Emperor around drew attention.
And knowing Vali’s personality, if someone targeted Aki and Vali heard of it, he might warn him.
His words: only I can defeat this generation’s Red Dragon Emperor.
Also, Vali didn’t like schemes. Only direct fights.
Also, Vali was smart. Without certainty, he wouldn’t come fight Aki.
So Aki felt keeping Vali around had more benefits.
Like now.
Golden light enveloped them, forming a hemisphere. They easily entered a strange, colorful space.
With Vali leading and Arthur using Colbrand to cut, their entry was as smooth as Little Aki entering a slippery garden.
Squelch. They were inside.
This space had no up or down. No time flow. All the same scene: flowing, mixed colors.
”So this is the dimensional gap…”
Aki looked around, surprised and uncomfortable. But here, he felt his power could be used without limit.
In the Three Realms, there was a limit. Too much power would damage the world.
Here, no such feeling.
He clenched his fist, gathered most of his power, and threw a punch.
”Ha…”
The teleportation ended. Arthur breathed and put away Colbrand. “Within this field, dimensional currents won’t swallow us…”
Before he finished, the field made cracking sounds like breaking glass.
Then, to their shock, the spherical barrier shattered completely.
They looked at the culprit.
”Uh… what if I said I didn’t mean to?”
Aki withdrew his fist and scratched his head.
They wanted to say no, but they could tell he wasn’t trying.
From the relaxed—no, unsatisfied—look, he was holding back.
”Forget it. I’ll open another…”
Though it was dangerous, they were all strong. Briefly was fine.
Summoning the holy sword and opening the field, Arthur continued, “My field can’t last long. If we don’t find it in time, we go back. Or get lost.”
Vali’s group had been here before. It was a convenient ability, so they came often. Arthur mainly spoke to Aki.
Aki noticed. They were clearly familiar with this place.
”Don’t worry about me. I tried. Forcing out shouldn’t be hard.”
”…”
Now they were speechless.
”Even if you can break through, pure force won’t return you to the original world. Even if it does, terrible things could happen.”
This time Kuroka explained.
Forcing through could mess up space and time.
Wrong space was fixable. Multiple tries. But wrong time? Time paradox. Even Dragon God-level would suffer.
Only beings above Dragon God-level could ignore time’s power.
”Uh. Understood. I won’t mess around.”
Aki suppressed his urge.
He couldn’t help it. He’d held back in the Three Realms for so long and never used full power. He itched.
No wonder anyone strong enough wanted to ascend.
This restriction was suffocating.
Good thing he preferred staying with Rias.
More importantly, the DxD world’s restriction didn’t stop his growth.
If it did, he’d be one of those trying to ascend.
”There is another way to avoid getting lost…”
Just in case, Arthur told him a mysterious method.
”The gap’s strength relates to the person’s will. Strong will ensures safe return.”
”Strong will… As expected. This ultimate idealism…”
Aki muttered, then asked, “How long can this barrier last?”
”About an hour in Human World time. When time’s up, the barrier returns us.”
He paused and glanced at Aki. “Forced breaking doesn’t count. That’s why we weren’t sent back just now.”
”Only an hour? Too short.”
Aki frowned. “Arthur, you’re too weak. Can’t you last longer?”
”Normally I can do two hours a day. But you broke the barrier. Wasted one hour.”
Arthur pushed his glasses. Expressionless.
”Uh…”
Aki paused, then shamelessly said, “Two hours is still short!”
Vali rolled his eyes. “This is a long-term mission. It also needs luck. Why else do you think they specifically found us… and you.”
