As it turned out, Aki’s instincts were dead on. Sosuke’s face drained of color, his earlier composure vanishing in an instant. He leaned forward, eyes narrowed. “Uesugi-kun…. are you saying you’re a part of that world as well?”
”You could say that. Right now, I’m basically a temporary hire for the Gremory Family.” Aki had thought about calling himself a “Peerage member,” but since he lacked the crest Rias usually bestowed, he couldn’t prove it. If Sosuke asked for a receipt, he’d be dead in the water. “Yeah, a temp. This whole situation with Miyajima-senpai is actually my final test before I get brought on full-time.”
Since Sosuke wasn’t high enough on the food chain to have clearance for Gremory-level intel, he took Aki’s confident explanation at face value. He nodded solemnly. “That is an incredible feat. It explains how someone as young as you, Uesugi-kun, possesses such terrifying strength.”
”It’s whatever,” Aki said, playing it cool. “It’s the Gremory Family. If you’re a weakling, they won’t even look at you, let alone hire you.”
Sosuke took the bait completely. “True. With the Gremory name behind you, your future is limitless.” He sighed, a shadow crossing his face. He had once hoped Sakura would find her way into that hidden world. But after a year of training with no “special” encounters, he’d decided to close that door and have her focus purely on kendo. It was a harder path with lower odds of reaching the legendary realms, but it was safe. Or so he’d thought. Now, Aki was telling him she was already being hunted.
”Since you know the score, Master Miyajima, we can skip the fluff,” Aki said. “I’m still tracking the specifics, but I can confirm that ‘person’ followed Miyajima-senpai all the way to Aisu (Aiho) Academy.” He leaned on the word person, letting the silence emphasize that whatever was following her wasn’t human.
”If I keep her locked in the house, can we wait this out?” Sosuke asked.
”Maybe. But I’d suggest she keeps her routine. I’ve already got Aisu (Aiho) Academy wired for surveillance. If that ‘thing’ follows her here instead, not only does your family end up in the crossfire, but I lose my tactical advantage. I can’t turn this dojo into a fortress overnight.” Aki flashed a sharp, knowing grin. “Besides, a Master like you doesn’t want to live under a microscope, right? Even if you’re game, I doubt Miyajima-senpai or the Lady of the house would appreciate the intrusion.”
It was a beautiful lie—half-truths wrapped in logic. Sosuke clearly knew just enough about the Inner World to be intimidated, but not enough to spot a fraud.
”Fine. We’ll do it your way,” Sosuke said, slamming his hand down on the table. He stood up and, in a move that spoke volumes about his desperation, gave Aki a deep, formal bow. “I’m placing my daughter’s life in your hands.” It was a surreal sight: a legendary kendo master bowing to a kid half his age. Aki just waved it off, acting like it was just another day at the office.
Sakura and Miyajima Tsubaki looked like they were watching a movie in a foreign language. They were completely out of the loop. “Father? Uesugi?” Sakura’s brow furrowed. “What are you talking about? Is the ‘Gremory Family’ related to Rias?” She knew Rias; everyone did. The red-haired beauty was the only girl in school who could rival her own popularity.
”It’s getting late,” Aki said, checking his watch. “I should get going. My sister’s waiting on me for dinner.” He knew when to fold. The more he talked, the higher the chance of a slip-up. Better to let Sosuke handle the “talk” with the women.
Aki slipped out of the quiet room, leaving the Miyajimas to their crisis. He didn’t care about their family drama; he had a Succubus to check on. He wanted to see if his Dual Cultivation had left its mark. If he could break a Succubus—a creature literally built for s*x—then turning a girl like Sakuramachi Touko into his personal, mindless pet would be child’s play.
He was almost at the gate when a hand clamped onto his arm.

Aki looked her over. She was fit, assertive, and clearly looking for trouble. “You really want to play this game?” he asked, his voice dropping an octave. “I’ll be straight with you. I’m not looking for a girlfriend. I’m looking for a fuck buddy. If you’re down for that, we can eat. If not, don’t waste my time.”
Miyuna froze. She’d never had a guy be that blunt with her. She looked at his confident, “trashy” smirk and realized that, strangely enough, she wasn’t offended. In fact, it made her want him more.
”Fine,” she said, her voice steady. “I’m not an idiot. A free meal and a good time? I’ll take that deal.”
Aki grinned, pulling out his phone. “I’ll book a place. Show up when you’re ready.” He added her number, already thinking about how he’d toss her aside once he was bored. If she got clingy, a quick memory wipe would solve everything.
