Himejima Akeno watched Aki with a shimmering, cat-like smile. “Little Aki, have you seen enough? Or would you like me to give you a much clearer view?”
Aki shook his head reflexively, then immediately reconsidered and gave a frantic nod, his eyes locked onto her. (Did I actually nail it? Is Akeno-senpai really just waiting for me to take the lead?)
Before Aki could say a word, the warmth vanished from her face. Her eyes turned sharp, crackling with a predatory light.
”Last time, you touched me without an invitation, stripped me to my skin, and tried to force your way in… I haven’t even begun to settle that score with you yet.”
Static hissed and blue sparks of Mana danced between the fingers of the tall, ponytailed girl. “It’s only been a few days. Are you already begging for your Senior’s ‘Education of Love’?”
Akeno had seen past Aki’s mask; she wasn’t going to be played by appearances again. You couldn’t treat Aki like some simple, hormone-driven brat. If you let your guard down for a second, he’d have you consumed before you even realized the trap was set.
Aki gave a dry, nervous laugh and shuffled backward, putting some safe distance between them. “Akeno-senpai, you’re exaggerating. We had an agreement that time…”
Akeno narrowed her eyes, her voice dropping to a dangerous silkiness. “Oh? Is that so? As I recall, we agreed to a kiss. I don’t remember any clause about you tearing my clothes off and trying to shove that… thing… into my body.”
”It didn’t actually make it in, though…” Aki muttered under his breath.
Akeno’s expression soured. If Rias hadn’t walked in at the exact moment she did, she would have lost her virginity in the most bewildering way possible.
”So, you think that makes it okay?”
The electric arcs in her palms grew violent, hungry for Aki to give her a reason to let them fly. Aki felt the hair on his neck stand up. Realizing the mood was beyond saving, he didn’t give Akeno a chance to strike. He spun on his heel and made a break for it.
”Akeno-senpai, I’m heading back to the classroom! I’ve got to prep for the afternoon!”
Watching Aki’s lean figure sprint away, Akeno let the Mana in her hands fizzle out. She let out a long, heavy sigh. She didn’t actually hate the boy; in fact, she found herself genuinely drawn to him.
But a ‘little crush’ wasn’t nearly enough to make her throw herself away. Between Aki’s wandering heart, the blood-feud she carried, and her absolute loyalty to the Gremory family, there were too many chains holding her back. Rias wouldn’t stop her, but the rest of the clan wouldn’t be so forgiving. She couldn’t let her own desires make things harder for her President.
”Back to the grind…” Akeno murmured, picking up the files on her desk. “I just hope Aki’s… unique situation… doesn’t start drawing too much heat.”

The dying light of the sunset bled across the town, staining the alleyways a deep, bruised crimson. Aki walked with his hands in his pockets, looking like a man without a care in the world. He aimlessly kicked a loose stone, waiting for his Client to arrive.
This was his first real Contract, and he was feeling uncharacteristically motivated—even if the job itself sounded like a joke.
”Excuse me… are you the Mr. Stray Devil I’m looking for?”
A girl stepped into the mouth of the alley. She was a perfect picture of innocence, her slender legs wrapped in white stockings that met a uniform skirt, revealing a tantalizing glimpse of smooth, pale skin. Aki looked her over.
Long black hair, a stunning figure, and a face that could launch a thousand “first love” fantasies. She clutched her bag to her stomach with dainty hands, her large eyes looking at him with a carefully practiced vulnerability.
Aki might have been charmed if he hadn’t seen her face. The second he recognized her, his mood bottomed out. He instinctively put several feet of air between himself and the girl known as Amano Yuuma—or, as he knew her, the Fallen Angel Raynare.
”That’s me. You the Client?”
Yuuma tilted her head, watching him with curious eyes. She’d played this ‘innocent lamb’ role a hundred times, and she always wiped the slate clean afterward. Since she’d only just arrived in Kuoh Town, there was no way this boy should be this wary. (Has he already sniffed me out? Or is he just naturally twitchy?)
She didn’t want to pick a fight with the Gremory family’s territory just yet, so she kept the mask on. “My name is Amano Yuuma,” she chirped, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. “And what should I call you, Mr. Stray Devil?”
”Uesugi Aki.”
Aki watched her, every nerve ending on high alert. Seeing her in the flesh confirmed everything.
”You seem awfully high-strung, Uesugi-kun. Why is that?” Yuuma drifted a few steps closer, testing his perimeter. “Is it possible… you’ve seen me somewhere before?”
She was Raynare—a Low-class Fallen Angel with the punch of a Middle-class. She was the one who lured the original protagonist into a death trap just to snuff out a potential threat. Because she was too arrogant to confirm the kill, Issei survived to become a Devil. As the catalyst for the entire story, Raynare was a face Aki could never forget.
”We’ve never met,” Aki lied, his face a mask of iron. “But my gut is screaming that you’re a very dangerous woman.”
Aki had the Demon Bloodline, but he wasn’t at A-rank yet. In a straight-up scrap, a peak B-rank like Raynare was a massive gamble.
Yuuma blinked, her eyes wide and hurt. “Dangerous? Me?” She pouted, her voice trailing off into a seductive whine. “I’m just a fragile girl, Uesugi-kun. If I weren’t, I wouldn’t be worried about those creeps following me.”
Aki just shrugged. (Keep playing the victim, lady.) “Sure. Speaking of creeps, I assume those are the stalkers from your request?”
He jerked his chin toward the end of the alley. Yuuma spun around, her pleated skirt swirling high enough to flash a pair of pale pink panties. Aki caught the view but didn’t let his eyes linger. (She’s ‘deadly sweet’ for a reason. I need to keep my distance or I’ll end up on an operating table.)
Raynare saw his reaction and smirked inwardly. She’d put out the request just to see what kind of talent the local management was hiring. By gauging Aki, she could see the shape of the power behind him.
”That’s them. I’m counting on you, Uesugi-kun~”
Aki nodded and brushed past her, heading straight for the group of loud-mouthed thugs. One of them, a punk with bleached yellow hair, suddenly turned red with an unearned fury. Influenced by some invisible wave of aggression, he stepped out before his leader could even speak.
”Hey, kid! Back off the girl, or we’re gonna bury you right here!”
Aki ignored him completely. To him, a common street thug was just background noise. His eyes were locked on the red-haired guy in the center—the one with the actual presence. Raynare wouldn’t have used normal humans for a test. This guy was a C-rank supernatural user, the perfect sacrificial lamb for her to see exactly what Aki was capable of.
