Dark Noble 123

Chapter 123 The Two Next Door

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”Here we are.”

”Yeah, it feels pretty good in this corner room.”

Our private room was located at the front corner of the train car. When I glanced over, I saw a pair of people trying to enter the adjacent private room.

They were two older men, carrying a long, narrow piece of luggage and a large trunk. They looked like they were in a hurry.

 ”Excuse me for a sec.”

Just as they were about to enter the room, the conductor stopped them.

”Uh, about that luggage of yours…?”

”It’s just some business tools. The size shouldn’t be a problem. Barely, yeah.”

The men was wearing a black jacket and had a tough face, giving off a mafia-like vibe. The conductor nodded nervously and let them pass.

 ”Hmm…”

We entered our reserved private room on the special express train, feeling relieved. We had plenty of room to spare and could finally relax. As usual, I sat down next to Lana and waited for the train to depart.

’Almost there… almost there… the train to Vitz town is about to depart!’

The conductor’s voice echoed through the train, sounding a bit drawn out. Maybe it was a southern accent.

The train slowly started moving, and compared to the trains in the capital, it felt a bit more unstable. But it wasn’t uncomfortable or anything.

”Looks like we’re finally off… all the way to the final stop.”

”Yeah, it’s not like we can enjoy the view outside or anything…”

The train swayed gently, and the air conditioning was working, although it felt more like a gentle breeze.

 ”I might take a nap… Yawn…”

Lana let out a big yawn, feeling exhausted and full. Outside the window, there were scattered houses and fields. It was really sleepy time.

”Maybe I should conserve my energy and take a nap. I’m…”

I leaned back in my seat and closed my eyes lightly. Yeah, this was comfortable.

”Yeah, the real deal starts when we arrive…”

Lana also leaned back in her seat. Since we were going all the way to the final stop, there was no need to worry about getting off early. According to the rules, if we didn’t leave our room after arrival, the conductor would forcibly open the door and handle it――in other words, they’d wake us up.

Given the route, the scenery outside wouldn’t change much. That’s because this route went through a vast grassland area.

Even when we got close to Vitz, there wouldn’t be any ocean views. And there were probably rust prevention measures in place too…

 ”Hmmph…”

Lana let out a sigh and grasped my hand, closing her eyes. Her chest, adorned with a one-piece, stood out, but somehow, I didn’t feel any lust.

As I closed my eyes, my consciousness was sucked into drowsiness, and I felt myself melting away. The seat wasn’t hard. I decided to let myself be consumed by sleep, just like that.

 (Rustling sounds…)

Some noise came from behind me. From the next room, I think. I furrowed my brow and opened my eyes. When I looked out the window, the train was still running through the lush green meadow. Lana was sleeping peacefully.

”Hey, don’t make so much noise.”

”But the room is small, and our luggage is cramped…”

The noise came from the room behind us. The speaker had a southern accent. It seems one of the older men who was briefly stopped by the conductor.

I could hear their conversation. It was annoying. It was hard to fall asleep again. Well, I concentrated my magic on my ears, trying not to wake Lana up. Listening to their conversation might be a good way to kill time.

The magic I used was “Eavesdropping.” I honed my hearing and picked up the sound. I rarely used this magic at the magic academy――if someone with magic saw my ears, they’d immediately know I was using it. So, it was limited to situations like this, where I couldn’t be seen.

”…But will Midnight Fangs really agree to the reconciliation?”

 Hmm?

A familiar topic came up. What a coincidence.

”I don’t know. The boss isn’t telling us anything.”

”Our secretiveness has been going on for a while, but this time, it’s a bit troubling. If the talks fail…”

 ”Lower your voice.”

”It won’t be heard. Besides, the person next door is a noble’s kid. Anyway, everyone at the Yarmouth branch is also worried.”

”I know. The anxiety is spreading.”

It seemed that the people in the next room were… from Golden Crab, or one of their affiliated groups. Whispering in the special train car’s private room wasn’t a bad idea, but the world was small. I should be careful too.

”There’s some good news. The young lady is coming back.”

”Huh? Um…? I thought she went to the capital and never came back.”

”Seeing the situation, she plans to take action. With the young lady around, we won’t be afraid even if we clash with Midnight Fangs. Right?”

”Y-Yeah… she’s stronger than dozens of ordinary adults.”

 Young lady, huh…

I guess she probably has magical powers.

”So, don’t worry, and focus on your daily work. Don’t have unnecessary anxiety. Got it?”

 ”…Got it.”

And with that, the conversation from the neighboring room stopped. I didn’t get much useful information, but I did get some.

It’s no surprise that there are factions that don’t want to reconcile with us. Midnight Fangs and Golden Crab are sworn enemies, and I’m planning to spy on Golden Crab and sell them out to the police anyway.

The only one I’m concerned about is the lady. Well, my top priority is still the boss, though.

 ”…Hmm…”

Lana is sleeping while holding my hand. So cute.

I gently hold Lana’s hand back.

 ”Hehehe…”

Lana smiles in her sleep. My sleepiness has vanished, and I never get tired of looking at her.
