Dark Noble 130

Chapter 130 Unsuccessful Endeavors

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”Well, I want to check out the souvenir shop first… but if Ms. Lana doesn’t like it, we can do it another time.”

”…Let me think about it for a moment.”

As we walked, Lana was deep in thought. For me, it was pretty relaxed… maybe because I have confidence in getting out of a tough situation if it happens.

”It’s fine, I have magic. And it’s still daytime. If we’re going, let’s do it now.”

 ”Thank you very much.”

 ”Well, it can’t be helped. It’s a family issue…”

There were still a lot of people walking around on the street. By the second day, things were moving a bit smoother.

We arrived in a slightly darker alley behind the main street. There weren’t many people, but it wasn’t completely empty.

In fact, there was a police officer standing around.

”There’s a police officer, so it seems safe.”

 ”Yeah.”

We walked past the officer and entered the alley.

The officer’s shoes were shiny and looked quite expensive. There’s the possibility that this officer is just rich, but it could also mean there’s some corruption involved.

It’s a bit harsh to expect Lana to notice that. In this area, it’s about having a sense developed from experience.

I shouldn’t let my guard down.

”There really are a lot of souvenir shops.”

 ”Yes… accessories, ceramics, paintings…”

This world has a postal system, so even if we buy something here, they will deliver it. Although the delivery fees might be ridiculously high compared to modern Japan.

Golden Crab is an underground organization related to art… if they’re setting up shop here, it’d probably be in accessories. They’re easy to move around and perfect to attract unsuspecting customers.

Close to the entrance of the alley, we found the ‘Blue Sea Art Shop’ that the uncle of previous stall had mentioned.

”Here is the Blue Sea Art Shop.”

Looking through the glass, it seemed to be an accessories store.

 Lana gulped.

 ”Are you okay?”

”I’m fine, Alba. Yeah. It’s just that I don’t usually go into suspicious shops.”

”Well… let’s make sure we can escape anytime.”

The signal we decided on was to pull each other’s sleeves if we thought something was off. Then we would turn around without hesitation.

Lana isn’t great at combat magic, but she has enough experience from duels at the academy. She’s strong enough that about ten adult men wouldn’t stand a chance against her.

So, we entered the ‘Blue Sea Art Shop.’

 ”Welcome!”

The shopkeeper is a chubby old man. Lana glances at me for a moment.

 I nodded slightly.

This shopkeeper is weak, but he has magic power.

I sharpened my senses――feeling the unique fluctuations of magic power from a controlled and trained person. There’s no doubt he has trained in handling magic.

”Oh, a noble, huh… and a pretty good magician too.”

 ”You can tell?”

”Well, yeah. It’s just a simple souvenir shop, though.”

The shop has small rings, necklaces, and earrings with tiny jewels on display.

The prices are decent, but for a souvenir shop, they’re high. From 5 gold coins――that’s about 500,000 yen.

”I should tell you, the items here are made by craftsmen, so they’re expensive. If you complain about the materials, it won’t help.”

The shopkeeper seemed annoyed. He was clearly wary of us.

I see, he’s not going to deal with someone who has magic power from the start. There are certainly things like appraisal magic, and he can’t take action if something happens.

It seems we’re not the right customers.

”…You will sell to us, right?”

”I don’t think there’s anything that would please your eyes.”

 No motivation to sell…

I messed up the approach. Staying here would be pointless.

It seems Lana picked up on the atmosphere in the store too.

”Hey, want to check out the next store?”

”Yeah, let’s look at some other shops.”

”That’s right, you two. There are a lot of nice things on the main street too.”

Like we were being shooed away, we left the store.

Hmm… No wonder Isabella is having a hard time.

They’re guarding things tightly. If they see people with magical power as threats, it would be tough to sneak in normally.

After leaving the store, we walked a bit. Lana looked around and then started talking.

 ”He was super cautious, huh?”

”Looks like it. That was a fail.”

”…But this isn’t really our fault, is it? We don’t have to do anything dangerous anymore, right?”

”Well, that’s true. If other shops have the same kind of setup, we’d just be under constant watch.”

To reassure Lana, I shrugged my shoulders.

In reality, as Alba, there was nothing more I could do right now――what a hassle.

That being said, as Midnight Fangs, there are still things I can do. But I don’t need to tell Lana about that.

We strolled along Vitz’s main street, eating as we went, and then returned to the hotel. The receptionist smiled warmly.

”Welcome back. Some mail has arrived, so we’ll deliver it to your room.”

As expected of a high-class hotel, it seemed they had memorized our faces and room numbers.

Since both Lana and I have matters related to our territory, proper mail delivery is a life-or-death issue for us. There were several pieces of mail in our room’s mailbox.

”I have one too. I need to check it.”

The envelope Lana received had a green color with patterns of branches and leaves. The envelope meant for me was almost plain with no decorations.

However, there was a sealed envelope that had been promised beforehand――it’s from the police.
