Chapter 276-2 Emergency Meeting

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”People often don’t notice kindness but are quick to catch onto malice. But that aside, I’ve been wondering──Crystal Ice Shouhyou mentioned that the elf named Golarf isn’t sane. Do Neil and Lewya agree with that?”

”At first glance, he seems like a normal person, but I have caught hints of his strange nature in his choice of words.”

”I… don’t know. I spoke with him briefly a week ago, but parts of what Golarf said didn’t make sense to me. Whether it was just the ramblings of a madman, I can’t say for sure.”

 ”Hmm, I see.”

 ”What’s bugging you about him?”

”Well, Crystal Ice said Golarf’s collecting dangerous stuff. But how did that turn into the claim that he’s crazy? From what the two of them say, he doesn’t look completely unhinged, right?”

True. Just because someone collects dangerous things doesn’t automatically make them a lunatic. There must be other reasons you think Golarf is insane.

There’s gotta be some other reason she judged Golarf as mad.

 ”Does Melgis-san know Golarf?”

”Maybe he’s not just a target after all. Neil, wouldn’t it be better to talk to Melgis again before jumping into action?”

”Yeah, we should get Melgis-san to explain again──”

 ”Hey, hold on a second.”

Ms. Iko, who had been quietly listening till now, suddenly interrupted.

”I’m afraid there might not be that much time left.”

 ”What do you mean?”

”I doubt someone with the influence of the Spear of Shouhyou firm can afford to wait several days. At the very least, they probably don’t have the luxury to lay a trap waiting for someone who might appear from another dimension at any moment. Niya says that once Crystal Ice showed up, the other side was likely already fully prepared to kill the target.”

”How exactly are we supposed to reach Golarf-san, who’s presumably inside that other dimension?”

”I don’t know the method, but even Neil-sama doesn’t have full grasp on interspatial magic, right? You can’t say for sure it’s safe until you’re out of that space… Oh? Wait a sec, another call from Niya────seriously?”

 ”What’s wrong?”

”This might be bad news, but there’s a weird group in white masks and deep green robes heading south through the forest. They don’t seem related to the Spear of Shouhyou just by their appearance… What do you think?”

”If we consider that Melgis-san left immediately after, it fits the timeline perfectly.”

Should we believe they’re unrelated to Melgis-san and send people to the Spear of Shouhyou?

But even so, if that group turns out to be Melgis-san’s, we need to act now or Golarf-san’s life could be in danger.

”Are you going to stop them?”

”Seems like we don’t have time to hesitate.”

 ”……”

As I make up my mind, Estesia-san hesitates visibly.

Mei seems to have the same sense of déjà vu seeing her like that.

”You had that look on your face when you came back yesterday too. Well, I sort of guessed… Estesia, you know where Golarf is hiding, don’t you? If you sensed the Origin, you should know the source’s location. If you know the place, we could use Neil’s interspatial magic to jump in directly and check. You had already noticed that by yesterday, hadn’t you?”

 ”Ugh… yeah, you’re right.”

”You couldn’t say it because you knew if it came to that, you’d have to lead the way, right? But even in Pordhail, there are things to worry about.”

”Don’t say things that are such a buzzkill! …You’d be the same if you sensed it too, you know.”

Estesia-san’s face seems a little pale when she says that.

From what I hear, Estesia-san’s magical perception is tens of times more accurate and sensitive than a normal person’s.

But it’s so sensitive that she can’t turn it off, and the constant stream of magical information to her brain is a double-edged sword; considering the burden on Estesia-san, we can’t force her.

”Estesia, just give me a rough idea of the location. We’ll handle the rest ourselves.”

”*You know*, Neil, didn’t you say to stop relying on others? What’s the reason you want to go into a potentially dangerous place yourself?”

”I’m not just saying this without thinking. I have a solid reason, so don’t worry. First and foremost, we’re going to talk, not fight. If it escalates, we’ll retreat immediately. The real issue is the presence of Origin. If a fight breaks out and Golarf uses Origin, right now, I have no means to counter it other than my Crimson. Origin is powerful; there’s a chance we might not even get the chance to escape. But if I use my Crimson, which has an advantage due to its match-up, I should be able to buy us some time to escape.”

”I see, so you feel like you can’t leave it to someone else and need to go yourself. I get it, that makes sense. But it’s not going to be everyone except Estesia, right? If we’re considering retreating, it’s better to keep our numbers small.”

 ”That’s right.”

I looked around at everyone in the room, selecting who would join me on this venture.
