Chapter 279-2 Intrusion
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I’m staring at the building right in front of me when Lewya, who was checking around it, suddenly shouts my name.
”Neil!”
”What’s up?”
”I found the entrance over here!”
I dash over to where Lewya is, and sure enough, there’s an entrance on the side that hasn’t turned blue yet.
”Did you look inside yet?”
”No, I haven’t… wait, where’s Momoka? She was supposed to be with me.”
We’re scanning the area for Momoka, who’s disappeared without a trace, when she pops her head out of the entrance to the mysterious building.
”Guys, over here!”
”Momoka! You just went in there without…”
”It’s okay, I didn’t go too far in. Besides, there’s something weird in here.”
With that, Momoka pulls her head back in.
Lewya and I exchange glances before following Momoka into the building.
Inside, there’s a huge space, and at the far end, there’s a pile of unrefined Gioniium just left there.
”So this is a warehouse for storing Gioniium, huh?”
”Then is it necessary to make the warehouse out of Gioniium too?”
”Well, if you store Gioniium for a long time, the Origin starts to leak out. So, to prevent that… I guess it doesn’t make sense to build the warehouse out of Gioniium either. By the way, have you noticed any signs of Origin around here?”
”Signs? Not really.”
”Got it, sorry for the bother. I might have been mistaken.”
Lewya and I are discussing the purpose of this building when Momoka points deeper inside.
”Over there, something’s off.”
Something off?
I turn my gaze to where Momoka’s pointing, and amidst the pile of Gioniium, there’s one piece that’s clearly been worked on, standing out because it’s completely blue, unlike the rest.
It’s rectangular, with something like a lid fitted on top, and the first thing that comes to mind is…
”A coffin?”
Yeah, that thing could only be described as a coffin made of Gioniium, and it was just sitting there in a huge pile of Gioniium.
”If that’s a coffin, does that mean there’s a body inside?”
”No idea, let’s get a closer look.”
I carefully approach the coffin-like object.
Slowly, slowly, I step over the boundary between the blue and black, like a gradient.
”I wouldn’t recommend going any further.”
That voice from behind made my consciousness slip for a moment──
──BWOAHH!!
”What?!”
Suddenly, blue energy bursts out of the Gioniium coffin, heading straight for me.
Crimson, defend!
Too late, I can’t make it!
I try to jump back and escape, but I slip on the polished Gioniium floor and land on my butt.
As the blue energy closes in, I think it’s over, but then it expands right in front of me and gets absorbed back into the Gioniium.
”The boundary between the blue and black, *that’s* the limit of its power.”
”…Golarf-san.”
Relieved to be saved, I turn my head back to see Golarf-san.
Did he find me in the cabin and come along?
Melgis-san is there too.
”Hey, it’s been 3 weeks, right? Should I say ‘long time no see’?”
”I suppose it depends on the person, so I can’t really say… Golarf-san.”
”What’s up?”
”What exactly is this structure? And what’s inside those coffin-like things?”
”What do you want to do after hearing it?”
”I have to hear it, there’s no other choice.”
”Sure, that’s true. Alright, inside there is a *MONSTER*.”
”A monster, you say?”
”Yeah, a monster that constantly scatters that blue energy, 24/7. I’m trying to seal its power while I figure out how to kill it. This Gioniium cage is for that purpose.”
”Then, Golarf-san, were you gathering those forbidden items because”
”To kill this monster, of course. I decided that if we leave it alone, it could destroy this country, or even the world.”
”I see… So that’s how it was…! Melgis-san! As I thought, Golarf-san was working for the country after all!”
”Yeah… Looks like that’s the case, all right.”
What’s that?
Melgis-san still looked pretty serious, not exactly happy.
”Were those items really just needed to kill that monster and stuff?”
”Yeah, pretty much. To be honest, I don’t even know how to kill the damn thing anymore, so I just try whatever I can get my hands on. This monster? You crush its head, feed it to demons, toss it into a volcano──nothing works. It’s invincible, can’t die no matter what.”
”A creature that won’t die even with all that… well, hmm. Maybe if it’s a being with Origin, there’s a chance.”
”Origin? You call this unfathomable power that, huh?”
”Yes. I’ve heard about this power before, from the Holy Spirit Tree.”
”I see. If the Holy Spirit Tree calls it that, then that’s its proper name. From now on, I’ll call it the same.”
”Golarf-san, you didn’t know about the Origin, huh?”
”Yeah, because the one using that power is a monster who can’t speak a single word. It doesn’t explain itself, so I was just groping around in the dark the whole time.”
Good… looks like I might be able to avoid fighting Golarf-san.
But if a monster’s invincibility comes from its Head… or if it’s fed to demons, or falls into lava without dying… if the true nature of its immortality comes from the blue’s Origin, maybe I can find a way to help after all.
”Golarf-san, actually──”
”Neil! …Hold on a sec, will ya?”
”Lewya?”
”When Golarf appeared, I realized the feeling I’ve been sensing all this time. Golarf, what is the bloodline of yours?”
”My bloodline is the same as sister’s.”
”I thought so. This is the same mysterious aura as from our mother’s bloodline… Why is it that the Origin emitted by that monster contains the magical power of our bloodline?”
The monster giving off the signal of Elf’s bloodline?
”Answer me, Golarf. Don’t try to hide behind words like ‘monster.’ Who is inside that coffin?”
Golarf-san scratched his head, looking troubled by the question.
”Well, I don’t mean to mislead you or anything… but come on, something that can’t die and spreads a dangerous aura all around? That’s gotta be a monster, right? But hey, if we wanna put it differently…”
When Lewya mentioned feeling the same presence from the monster’s Origin as the elf bloodline, I couldn’t stop my mind from imagining all sorts of nastiness.
But──
”──She would be… our actual daughter, born between my wife and me, I suppose.”
Reality was far crueler than my imagination could ever be.
