Volume 11 Chapter 26 Lumine’s Monologue

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

I clutched my chest, the weight of this strange world pressing down on me. My sister’s voice still echoed in my head, sharp and cold, like a blade slicing through the quiet.

”Sis, things have gotten pretty wild, huh?” I said, my voice barely steady.

”Yeah,” she replied, her eyes scanning the bus. “Everyone’s still out cold.”

 ”What about the driver?”

”When I woke up, he was gone. Seems like the front rows woke up first.”

”Oh, right. I was getting an earful from you in the seat next to me.” I grinned, trying to lighten the mood.

”Of course!” she snapped. “Your ridiculous plan to sneak into the boys’ rooms at night? Unacceptable!”

”Geez, you’re so uptight,” I teased. “It’s just a little visit to their rooms. Besides, kidnapping Nasu-kun to the girls’ dorm would be the real scandal, right?”

 She sighed. “Still…”

”Anyway, Nasu-kun said he’s okay with juggling two girls, but it’s time to pick one. Chinatsu came up with a funny name for it—uh, TDR? Takumi-kun Daisuki Rengou or something? (T/N: TDR – Takumi-kun Big Love Alliance, a playful nickname for his admirers.)”

”That girl,” Sis muttered. “Her face is like a perfect Japanese doll, but her mouth ruins it.”

I had no clue how we ended up in this world. All I knew was that Sis and I were stuck in some kind of limbo, a halfway point before the real “other world.”

”It’s been, what, a day?” I said, glancing at the second row of seats. “They’re still not waking up.”

”Time moves slowly here,” Sis said. “I’m not hungry, and forcing them awake feels risky. Let’s figure things out ourselves first.”

With everyone still asleep, we focused on understanding our Skills and this bizarre world.

”Is this really an isekai? (T/N: isekai – another world, a genre of being transported to a fantasy realm.)” I asked. “I can feel my Skill, Sis. Can you?”

”Yeah,” she said. “Yours is ‘Mimicry,’ mine’s ‘Turning Heavens.’ If the messages in my head are right, both are pretty rare.”

”My Mimicry Skill is awesome,” I said. “I can recreate anything I focus on, like a copy. It’s got limits, but I can even see outside, like a security camera. Total cheat Skill!”

Mimicry was super handy. But the world we were headed to? Not exactly a friendly place.

”Thanks to your instructions, I turned the bus into something like a sci-fi cryo-pod with Mimicry,” I said. “But is it okay to keep everyone asleep?”

”Yes,” Sis said firmly. “No time flows here, but if they wake up, they might panic and rush into that world. It’s dangerous. Lumine, stay here and keep watch.”

”Don’t push yourself too hard, okay?”

”I’ll be fine,” she said. “My Turning Heavens Skill can rewind time. No matter what happens, I’ve got this. I’ll either make a safe place for everyone or find a way back to Japan.”

 ”Should I come with you?”

”No. If you leave, Mimicry might wear off. We can’t risk that.”

And so, Sis stepped into the other world.

* * *

”Welcome back!” I said as she reappeared.

”I’m back,” she said, her voice heavy.

 ”That was quick!”

”Quick?” She frowned. “Oh, right. Rewinding time means you don’t remember. But you recall me leaving, so it’s not a full reset. I survived out there for about a month.”

 ”A month? What happened?”

”Nothing big,” she said, brushing it off. “I’ll go back once my Magic Power recovers.”

And so, like a stop-motion film, Sis kept leaving and returning.

”You okay?” I asked after one trip.

”I’m fine,” she said. “But labyrinths are tough to get used to. In most countries, someone like me can only work in a labyrinth or a brothel.”

”Ugh, the nobles here are such liars,” I groaned. “It’s disgusting.”

”Lesta Kingdom was a mistake,” she said quietly. “I saw hell itself.”

”Hey, Sis, since smaller chests make things harder out there, want me to Mimic your appearance to look like me?”

”Sure. And maybe make them a size bigger?”

I laughed. “I knew you were jealous of my chest!”

”It’s not that great,” she teased. “Aria and Rira are basically walking boobs, so yours don’t even stand out.”

Those light, sisterly moments didn’t last long.

”Damn it, damn it!” Sis screamed one day. “Why is there a war? Why do I have to deal with this?”

 ”Sis, maybe take a break—”

”Shut up!” she snapped. “You’re just sitting here, so don’t tell me what to do!”

Every time she asked, I used Mimicry to help her. My Skill got stronger, but Sis… she was changing. Going dark.

”Damn it, why do I have to suffer like this?” she raged. “Being a witch? Nothing good comes from it!”

 ”Sis…”

”Shut up, you useless sister! I’m sleeping until my Magic Power’s back. Don’t wake me.”

And then, she stopped coming back.

I watched over the bus, searching for her. She was living a brutal life out there. Sometimes, my memories would cut out, but I used Mimicry to copy her Turning Heavens Skill, keeping my memories intact.

Sis wasn’t restarting from scratch anymore. She’d rewind to where things went wrong, using crueler methods to gain power. Magic Power. Influence.

 One day, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Sis… she’d become a god.

Her eyes locked onto me, cold and piercing.

I froze. She was watching me.

”Well, well, Lumine,” she said, her voice dripping with malice. “Spying on me from there?”

 ”Sis…?”

”I’ve got a fun game in mind,” she said. “I’m going to make you all taste hell. Over and over and over.”

The next moment, I wasn’t alone. The whole class, bags and all, stood in a wide field.

”Hey, where are we?” someone shouted.

”We were on a school trip…” another voice mumbled.

”Get it together, Ginga-kun!” Shion snapped.

”I’m fine, Shion-chan,” Ginga said. “You’re the one shaking. Come here.”

”Everyone, calm down,” Nasu-kun called out. “Let’s figure this out.”

His voice soothed me, but the others were far from calm.

”Dude, is this an isekai teleportation thing?” one guy said.

”No way! My time to shine!” another laughed.

”Isekai means a slave harem, right?”

Idiots. This world wasn’t that kind. I wanted to warn them, but my voice wouldn’t come. Why? How?

Then, a sickly sweet, cruel voice rang in my head.

”Lumine, don’t ruin my fun,” it said. “Just watch your classmates squirm and die.”

(Sis, why are you doing this?)

”Because I’m pissed off, obviously,” she snapped. “Oh, and I took the original control you were guarding.”

 (Original? So we’re… copies?)

”Exactly,” she said. “Being a god means I can do anything. But you’re the only real one, Lumine. If you die, use the knockoff Turning Heavens I gave you to come back.”

(Die? No, Sis, please go back to how you were!)

”Shut up, you pathetic sister. I’m in a good mood, so I’ll let it slide. And as a special treat, I’ll keep dropping one of you into this world regularly. Let them savor the pain and fear of death.”

My Mimicry Skill was gutted by her, limited to almost nothing. Die or fake my death with Mimicry. That’s how this nightmare—a thousand years of torment—began.
