Volume 9 Chapter 42 Day Two (The Poison Creeping into McGaref)
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
The second day of war ended without any great movement. Aside from the endless deadly struggle on the Northern Front between Keirald’s 3rd Division and Asakura Chinatsu, it was quiet, as if the chaos of the first day had been a lie.
Cartera and the First Emperor still indulged in lewd acts in the main camp of the 2nd Division. Her body bounced on his lap, spilling wetness everywhere, as he drank from her huge breasts and she let out sweet sighs.
Her moans rang out freely, but no one paid them any mind. It was a sight long familiar since her days as a courtesan. Cartera believed her first duty was sexual service, and her second was being a witch.
”By the way, Majesty… must I not go to the field?”
”Correct. You are the trump card to kill Livia. Keep your strength. Yesterday I let you fight at full power as a test and a threat, but breaking the walls I will leave to Grano and For-Elda.”
”But Almaria has already used everything, you know? She has lost all her summoned spirits.”
Almaria, the Witch of the Dead Arm, had overextended herself. Impatient with the 2nd Division’s lack of movement, she had kept pushing ahead, until she could use nothing more than ordinary magic.
”True. But Almaria never listens when she gets angry. She even grabbed my collar and shook me yesterday—it was scary.”
”My, I would have liked to see such a cute side of Your Majesty.”
Cartera laughed, licking the Emperor’s neck and pressing her breasts to him as she whispered.
”Majesty. I hear Berhardt was slain.”
”Yes… to think there was one strong enough for that. It was a mistake in my plans.”
”Reports say General Keirald’s 3rd Division cannot contain the enemy. They continue to take heavy losses. Shall I go?”
”No, not yet. I had hoped to spread more fear and chaos in McGaref first, but we cannot wait. Use Katarina—the worthless man—to open the West Gate tomorrow. Order half the 2nd Division to move. Stop the people from fleeing through the South Gate, and begin with a massacre in the west.”
”As you wish. Tonight, shall I go with Raphastia to the gate?”
”Yes. Tell him it is time for his skill to be used. And… I must ask this of you.”
”I understand. I will slaughter the people and gather strength.”
The world’s strongest swordsman was Berhardt, but the world’s strongest witch was the Eternal Witch Cartera. As a rare witch who had become one later in life, her power grew with every person she killed. For this reason, the Emperor and Cartera planned massacres in McGaref and the Imperial Capital.
”Kill without mercy. All of this is so we can slay Livia. That we were given flesh again is nothing but divine favor… perhaps we should thank Rusty, the god.”
”Still, Livia’s moves are strange.”
”No, I understand her. She is just spreading misfortune for fun. She stirs chaos even in Astoria, pushing for more war. In the end, she means to make you, ranked first among witches, cancel her out. She likes such games.”
They kissed, pouring love and lust between them as they coupled again and again. Yet Cartera held back one truth. The order to massacre the people of McGaref—how fully to obey it? That was the question.
”And what will you do tomorrow, Majesty?”
”I will dispose of Sheryl. She may be a pretty girl, but she is no longer useful. As her last memory, I will make sure she enjoys it. I do not know how Livia tricked and killed the emperor and the first princess, but it serves me well. I will take the throne.”
There was no doubt in the Emperor’s words. To him, killing Livia, who had toyed with the world and with them, was the only way to save it.
”Majesty. I will forever be your woman.”
Cartera meant to obey the order to meet Livia in a final clash. That was why she could not speak. Grano had told her only, *If he hears this, he will waver and suffer. You must decide.* So she hid the grave truth, whispered an apology in her heart, and gave herself again to her lover.

Nagasaka Shion possessed the rare Magic Power Transfer Skill. Though its everyday use was low in this age of magic recovery potions, in this long war it shone. Recovery potions caused sickness when taken too much, but two witches—Scaya, the Witch of Inferno, and the Adamantine Witch—drank them anyway to hold their barriers. Shion took their power into her body, circulated it, and returned it purified. Quiet work, yet vital to McGaref’s defense.
”Ahh… it’s too hot. I cannot… keep up…”
She moved along the wall in a cart, traveling between the two witches, keeping them supplied. In her spare moments she used healing magic to vent excess power. But today her role was small. And the side effects were hurting her.
”I cannot hold it down any longer…”
She pulled out a long toy. The Skill’s side effect was surging desire, which she eased only by constant release.
”No… not until I see Ginga again. He is not dead yet…”
She pressed her hand to her stomach, breathing hard. She knew that joining the courtesans who comforted soldiers would ease it, but she would not. Guilt from letting Takumi, her classmate and Ginga’s friend, hold her, and rivalry with Hikari who had overcome her own Skill without lying with a man, forced her to endure.
Hidden from sight, she pushed the toy inside again.
”Ahh… I cannot. Then I must… Ginga, forgive me. I should have given you my other side when I could…”
She drew out another toy. Just as she touched it to her unused rear, a voice called.
”Shion, what are you doing here?”
”…Rira? And you? Why here?”
”Just walking… but you look bad.”
”Not so bad. Not like Hikari was.”
Even caught in such shame, Shion was calm. She squeezed her chest and went on with her act as she spoke, sliding one toy from her womb to her rear.
”A little busy right now.”
”So I see. But sorry to interrupt your first time back there. I still have business.”
Her tone and gaze were strange. Even Shion, blind to all but Ginga, felt it. Fear crept up from her feet, yet she forced a calm voice.
”You sound like someone else, Rira. There are people nearby—I can call them.”
”People? Oh, right. But no, they are gone now. A lie that thin won’t work, Shion.”
She looked at Rira’s hand, and knew her fate. Still, she tried to resist.
”Who are you?”
”Me? I am Yoshizaki Rira. But now I have another master besides Takumi.”
She tapped the collar at her neck and smiled.
”Lady Livia gave me orders. Ah, Shion, I see your belly holds a child. How lucky. We cannot even wed—we are slaves.”
”…Will you kill me?”
”No. Not yet. But if you fight, I may. So what will you choose—life or death?”
”I… want to live.”
”I see. I cannot say which is better.”
The next morning, Shion was found missing. With her lost, the two witches struggled to hold their barrier, and McGaref faced the nightmare of the third day.
But for now, the city slept in brief peace, knowing nothing of the fate to come.
