Volume 9 Chapter 52 Day Three (Sheryl’s Resolve)

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Before Sheryl took her own life, a dagger was first handed to Stella.

”Princess, farewell. As your knight, if I must die, I wish to do so with honor…”

 ”My apologies, Sheryl.”

”No… there were hardships, but even in my next life, I’d want to be by your side. Then, I’ll take my leave first.”

Stella wiped away the s**en trickling from her privates and rear, then plunged the dagger into her throat.

Her slender, toned body slumped forward, and a pool of blood slowly spread beneath her.

Just like that, Stella Sealing’s life was snuffed out.

 ”A noble end,” Almaria remarked.

To Almaria, a witch who’d witnessed countless battlefields and destroyed nations, a young knight’s tragic suicide was nothing out of the ordinary. Still, she offered a word of acknowledgment as she picked up the dagger. Next, Sheryl spoke, her voice steady.

”May I have the dagger, Almaria-sama? I wish to end my life in the Quvar style…”

”Quvar style… ah, that thing His Majesty the First Emperor popularized. But there’s no need to force yourself. Whether you suffer or not, death is the same in the end.”

”I have my reasons… my apologies if it’s unpleasant to watch.”

”Almaria, let her do it her way. And I’ll bear witness… to drive my adorable descendant to death… what a despicable man I am.”

The First Emperor sat facing her, a bitter smile on his face.

Sheryl took the dagger, steadied her breath, and plunged it into her abdomen.

She let out a pained cry, then sliced horizontally, tearing herself open.

Seppuku—a practice born from the First Emperor’s poisoning by Livia.

Sheryl chose this death as a matter of royal pride… and as penance.

”Guh… ngggh… because of my… uselessness, Lilus-sama met such a tragic end. So I thought… at least I should die the same way…”

 ”I see… a noble death indeed.”

 ”Guh… ugh… my apologies.”

”But I’d rather not watch a girl as lovely as you suffer for too long.”

”One last question, Your Majesty… no, Takumi-sama. What was it that I lacked?”

Even as Sheryl grasped her intestines and spoke, the First Emperor offered a lonely smile.

”Hmm… you’re intelligent and dear. I don’t know your entire life, but perhaps you lacked a bit of initiative.”

 ”I see… ngh, guh… if I’m granted another life like Your Majesty… ugh… I’ll strive to act more boldly…”

”Sheryl, it’s time to end it. Thrust the dagger into your throat. Your resolve has been acknowledged… His Majesty never truly wanted to kill you.”

 ”…Understood.”

Sheryl obeyed Almaria’s words, pulling the dagger from her abdomen and turning it toward her throat.

 ”May I call you Takumi-sama?”

 ”Of course, Sheryl.”

 ”I loved you, Takumi-sama…”

”Ah. Your love has been received.”

 ”…Forgive me for leaving first.”

The dagger sank into her throat. Sheryl, the second princess of the Quvarian Empire, already on the brink of death, collapsed lifelessly.

”…Almaria, I’ll leave the rest to you.”

 ”Understood. And Your Majesty…?”

”I still have someone to meet. Chinatsu-chan hasn’t arrived yet, so I’ll start with Ginga-kun. Yes… it was Chinatsu-chan, the monster who defeated Berhardt and Keirald. Ah, you wouldn’t know her, Almaria. This life was meant only to kill Livia… no matter how many times I live, I hate it.”

With a pained expression, the First Emperor left the tent. Pondering how to deal with Asakura Chinatsu and Kito Ginga, his mind—once poisoned by Livia—was now cleansed by Sheryl’s resolve, reverting to his true self as Nasu Takumi.
