Discount-Overlord v9c66

Volume 9 Chapter 66 Day Four (Sudden Encounter)

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Yeah. At this war council, the one sitting highest wasn’t me, and it wasn’t the First Emperor either. It was Rira-chan. The girl who had somehow become the god of this world.

That new Skill in my status—One Who Commands Even Gods—kind of sealed it.

But her face wasn’t bright. Not at all. If Rira-chan was god now, then Rusty was probably gone. That’s why Nyx had split off, chasing intel from Seron.

”Rira-chan, long time no see. I’m really glad we could meet again.”

”Me too… yeah. It’s nice to be around folks who hate Livia as much as I do.”

Kandagawa-san and Mikoshiba-kun had already begged me not to ask about what happened to her in McGaref. Fair. It was war—anything could’ve happened.

Besides, I’d already slipped once. I’d asked why she was wearing a priest’s robe and she’d said “bloodstains…” with tears in her eyes. That was enough. No more digging.

”But still… just bein’ a god don’t mean I can do much.”

”It’s more than enough. After Livia’s gone, I think you’ll get even stronger. You’ll be a good god, Rira-chan. I believe that.”

”…Everyone else’ll die of old age while I keep on livin’. But if that’s part of my atonement, then… I’ll keep goin’.”

In the First Emperor’s era, Rira-chan had quit halfway. She couldn’t stand being a burden, sold her virginity, became a courtesan, and vanished.

Even back in my world, most of the girls had held onto their virginity as their final bargaining chip. And she’d lived through the world where that actually happened.

”Minister of Military Affairs Roshima. Our common enemy is the Witch of the Turning Heavens—the god before last, Livia. We’ll throw everything into destroying her. Find her. Strike her. Leave her no escape.”

 ”As Your Majesty commands.”

He said it, but his eyes darted, unsure who exactly was “Majesty.” Couldn’t decide if it was me, the First Emperor, or Rira.

I noticed, because across the table I caught the gaze of a calm older-sister type—Chieri, the married captain. The one they’d dragged along for me to sleep with. Also the one who killed Ms. Marina. She already wore a collar, already belonged to us.

Not that I planned to touch her. Marina’s killer? I’d leave that to First Emperor. My heart couldn’t do it.

Same with Sheryl. She was dead because of her, too. But then—who was I to rage? I was the one who’d raped Sheryl’s virginity away and chained her life to mine. Who ruined her. If I’d been in the First Emperor’s place, I’d have done the same. That’s the disgusting truth.

”…Anyway. First, an armistice. Pull your troops back.”

”Fine by me. But not until Haruka-chan arrives.”

He hesitated over her name. And I knew why. We shared memories. So he knew. He knew that our straight-laced vice-chair Haruka-chan had actually been a horny exhibitionist, grinding on the corner of my desk back in school.

Yeah. Serves me right. It was like accidentally finding her secret alt. Some things, you just don’t un-know.

”Haruka-chan—Ruler of the Underworld Emperor. With her help, we could win without massacres in McGaref or Quvar. But only if Cartera herself confirms her strength.”

If Haruka-chan and Dora-chan aren’t strong enough, he’ll restart the war. And to ease his conscience, he’ll shuffle classmates, Mori-Mori, and the women who loved me—Natalie, the rest—outside the west gate.

And, silently, we’d already been working in sync on that exact move.

It felt like playing shogi against myself. And I was losing.

 ”Takumi-kun. No killing.”

 ”Hikari-chan… but—”

”If you must, then make Cartera kill me first.”

And there it was. Hikari-chan’s ironclad martyr complex, on full display. Not aimed at me this time, so I just sat back and watched.

Meanwhile, she was quietly triggering Lucky Charm Skill. Supposedly her peak of fortune was tomorrow, but the buff should start hitting today.

”…So the real problem is how to lure Livia. How to pull her into a trap.”

”Trouble is, kid,” a gruff voice cut in, “she’s terrified of Cartera. Won’t come easy.”

The talk went in circles. How do you catch someone who runs the second they smell danger? There was no good answer.

I was about to suggest a break when—

A ghost messenger stumbled in, breathless. Not a grunt—one of the higher ranks, if he could still talk. He whispered to Grano, who barked back: “Out loud. Everyone.”

”From Seron! Plain-text transmission! It’s about Livia!”

They passed the notes hand-to-hand, fast as lightning. I skimmed the report: Livia spreading war and famine for her own amusement, tricking Emperor Quvar and Flavia into their deaths, murdering the current god Rusty. Concise, damning, no way to spin.

”…But what’s with the last line?” someone muttered.

I knew. First Emperor knew. We both hissed curses under our breath.

Livia’s true identity is still Livia-sensei. —Kahoru-chan

So Kahoru-chan was alive. Relief hit me like a wave. But… Livia-sensei? Our kind teacher? Why? Why would she torture us? Torture even her own sister?

”At least this makes things easier. Announce a rich reward for anyone who reports Livia’s location—”

 First Emperor’s words cut short.

 Because the air warped.

Space twisted, bent, writhing. Impossible distortion. Every fighter went tense. Meruru snapped a barrier into place, Cartera raised a hand for first strike.

And out of the distortion, voice dripping with hatred—

”Cartera’s here!? Damn you, damn you, damn you! Next time I’ll carve your flesh an inch at a time and savor every scream, you bastard Sanadaaa—!”

The Witch of the Turning Heavens, Livia herself, stepped out before us.

And just like that, the fight we’d dreaded most began.

 —

 ”Hey hey, Takumi-chi.”

 ”…Kahoru-chan?”

 ”My big scene’s over already?”

”Nah, you’ve got more. Though next chapter’s mostly Haruka-chan and Shiori-chan’s turn.”

”Mhm. By the way—only three chapters left in this arc, right? You sure you can wrap it?”

”Course. Author swears he crunched it hard. Just wait and see.”

”…Takumi-chi. The author’s ghost is literally possessing you.”
