Chapter 121 Aftermath and Spoils

 ”Masterfully done, Milord.”

I watched Arashiyama die-a pathetic, gurgling mess with a ragged hole in his throat. Sheena didn’t even look at him. She simply wiped her blood-slicked rapier with a scrap of cloth and slid it home into its sheath, her voice cool and steady.

”Drop it,” I said, waving a dismissive hand. “This wasn’t a fight. It was a massacre.”

I felt a twinge of shame. Being thanked for putting down a few gutless punks who didn’t even have the resolve to die properly felt… beneath me.

”Heh. True enough. There was no resistance at all,” Sheena conceded. “They were barely a step above Goblins.”

”Amateurs,” I spat. “No combat experience, no kills to their name. A pack of Goblins has more bloodlust than those three ever did. At least a Goblin wants to kill you.”

I wiped the gore from my machete and looked toward my summons. “Rock, Saizou. Strip them of anything valuable. Then dump the trash into that monster house ¹ over there.”

The two creatures nodded. They went to work with grim efficiency, rifling through rucksacks and pockets before tossing the remains into the darkness of the monster room.

”Hardly seems worth the effort compared to raiding bandits,” Sheena remarked.

”They were bottom-feeders, lurking in the shallow floors. We’ll be lucky if their gear is even decent black iron.” I picked up a heavy black iron knife-maybe a good backup. The swords were junk. I’d list them at the Weapons & Armor Exchange later if they took up too much space.

I found a relatively clean rock and sat down, pulling a couple of beers from my Magic Pouch. I handed one to Sheena. They weren’t exactly ice-cold, but in this hellhole, you didn’t complain.

 ”Master… I’d like a snack.”

”I figured. I brought your favorite.”

I pulled a bag of carrot chips from the pouch-a Shop item she’d become obsessed with lately. Her face did a total 180, her eyes brightening as she snatched the bag. Her tail, usually coiled tight, started thumping a rhythmic beat against the stone as she crunched away.

I leaned back, beer in hand, and watched my summons finish the dirty work.

* * *

Rock let out a low, informative huff while Saizou gave a sharp, affirmative grunt. They returned from the cleanup holding Magic Stones, potions, and salvaged iron.

”Wait… is that a Magic Sealing Crystal ²?” I asked.

In Rock’s palm sat a crimson stone. Inside, I could see a tiny Kobold huddled in a fetal position. It was the one the punks had used as a pack mule. It must have been forcibly recalled when its master’s life-sign vanished.

 ”What happens to it now?”

”The master is dead,” Sheena said, peering at the stone. “It should have reset to its base state. Like that game Sayaka-sama used to play-the one with the monster taming.”

”Right. The one where everything looked like a stuffed animal,” I remembered. I’d tried playing it, but the creatures were too ‘cute’ to feel like actual weapons. It reminded me too much of Rock’s goofy face. Still, the logic held: if the player died, the summons were up for grabs, but their abilities were wiped clean.

”We could manifest it now,” Sheena suggested. “If it’s hostile, we just kill it again.”

”No… let’s save it. If it’s a blank slate, I’ll give it to Karen. She’s a glass cannon with that magic gun of hers. Having a pet to guard her or fetch stones while she’s reloading would be a game-changer.”

I could bind it to my own mana, but managing three summons was already a headache. Karen needed the utility. Sheena nodded in agreement as I tucked the crystal away.

We left the blood-spattered floor behind. It would all vanish in twenty-four hours anyway-the dungeon always reclaimed its own.

”Two Level-4 potions and three Grade-5s,” Sheena noted, counting the vials.

”Better than nothing,” I said. They must have burned through their good stuff fighting the Guardian of the 3rd floor. Their gear had been trashed. Still, I was glad they’d carried the high-grade stuff on them. When Noda died, his entire My Room ³ vanished into the void. At least this way, the dungeon didn’t get a refund.

”Alright, let’s head home. Rock, Saizou-you’re covered in gore. Grab onto me; we’re going straight to the room.”

I pulled out a Medal of Return . At 20,000 DP a pop, using two in one day hurt my soul, but we couldn’t risk being seen walking back into the teleportation hub alone. We needed the “we all escaped together” story to hold water.

I wrapped an arm around Sheena’s shoulder, crushed the medal, and let the mana flow. Three seconds of blurred light later, the stale dungeon air was replaced by the familiar scent of our living room.

”Yakumo! Sheena too! Oh, thank God!”

Sanae, Sayaka, and Karen practically tackled us. We caught them, laughing weakly at the sudden weight of three worried girls. In the corner of my eye, I saw Saizou-the ever-composed professional-nudging Rock toward the door to the isolated island. He knew when to give us some space.

”Wait… blood? Yakumo, are you hurt?!” Sanae cried, her face pale as she pulled back from my neck.

”Relax. It’s not mine,” I said, giving her and Sayaka a reassuring pat on the backside. “Those guys weren’t even a threat.”

”Then… did you kill them?” she asked.

”Of course not,” I lied smoothly. “I took their legs out and left them in the deep floors. They won’t be bothering us again.”

I wasn’t going to tell Sanae the truth. If she thought I’d become a murderer because of her, the guilt would break her. Let her believe they’re just ‘gone.’ Tomorrow, when their room disappears, she’ll suspect the truth, but as long as I don’t say the words, she can live in the gray area.

”I’m sorry… this is all my fault…” Sanae began to sob.

”I told you this morning, didn’t I?” I tilted her chin up. “You’re a beautiful woman. Trouble follows beauty. I knew what I was getting into when I kept you. I’ll protect you all-no matter what I have to do.”

 ”But… I’m so sorry… Yakumo… Sheena…”

”Ugh, shut up already, you lewd little brat,” Sheena snapped, her tone sharp. “Your Master is back from a hunt and you’re leaking tears instead of opening your legs? Have you forgotten your duty as a s**men receptacle ?”

”Wha-?! I’m not-! I’m Yakumo’s woman!” Sanae barked back, her face flushing red.

”Oh? You didn’t deny the ‘lewd’ part. Then get on your knees and prove you’re useful,” Sheena countered.

 ”Stop it!” Sanae yelled.

I chuckled, stepping between them. “Save it for later. I want a bath. We’re done for the day-let’s just relax.”

Sheena was being a bitch on purpose, drawing Sanae’s fire so the girl wouldn’t drown in her own guilt. She was clumsy at being kind, but I loved that about her.

I pulled them both close and led the group toward the magic tent on the island. By the time we hit the hot springs, surrounded by steam and soft skin, the blood of the dungeon felt like a distant memory.”,

 Summary:

Yakumo and Sheena eliminate Arashiyama’s group with cold efficiency. After looting the bodies and discovering a resettable Kobold summon, they return home using a costly teleportation medal. Yakumo lies to Sanae about the killings to protect her psyche, while Sheena uses insults to snap Sanae out of her guilt-ridden spiral.

 —

 Trivia:

 - Yakumo rejects the idea of being praised for the kill because his opponents were ‘amateurs’.

 - A ‘Monster House’ is a specific dungeon mechanic used here for body disposal.

 - The Kobold summon was a pack mule for the enemies but now belongs to Yakumo’s group as a reset ‘blank slate’.

 - Medals of Return are incredibly expensive (20,000 DP) and Yakumo used two in one day.

 - Dungeon footage is only broadcast during certain times at the Slave Training Facility, which is why Yakumo thinks he might have gotten away with the murder

 —

 Character Insight:

Yakumo shows a protective, albeit manipulative, side by lying to Sanae to prevent her from feeling responsible for murder. Sheena demonstrates a ‘tough love’ or ‘clumsy kindness’ by using her role as the ‘antagonist’ to ground Sanae through provocative insults.

 —

 Behind the Scenes:

The author notes that this chapter is shorter to adjust the pacing after the recent conflict.
