Chapter 190 Village Battle
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
**Tester Life: Day 69, Noon. 13th Floor Village. Sanada Yakumo.**
We finished fortifying our position, erecting six-meter walls to seal our rear and flanks, and I turned my attention to the path ahead.
From the main gate, a squad of roughly ten Orcs led by a massive shield-bearer charged us. Their heavy boots thrashed the dirt, a rhythmic thudding that grew louder as they brandished their jagged scimitars.
Six more Orcs emerged from the village’s side service entrance, split evenly on both flanks. Eight Green Wolves prowled alongside them, though the beasts hesitated once they saw our fortifications, veering toward the gate to join the main thrust.
Sanae didn’t wait. She began loosing arrows from her longbow in a steady, lethal stream, targeting the center of the horde.
”Ice Arrow!” Sayaka shouted. On cue, four crystalline bolts manifested above me, whistling through the air to slam into the lead rank of Orcs.
I leveled my palm at the shield-bearer. “Fireball.”
The projectile roared across the gap. The Orc managed to catch the blast on its shield, but the explosive force killed its momentum instantly. The Orcs following close behind couldn’t stop in time, colliding with their leader and tumbling into a tangled mess of green limbs and steel.
Meanwhile, Karen remained stone-still in a kneeling firing stance. Her eyes were narrowed, tracking the chaos as she waited for the survivors to hit her effective kill zone.
I lowered my hand and drew my machete. To my right, Sheena drew her rapier. Instead of pointing it at the enemy, she leveled the tip inches from Hanako’s rear.
Hanako had been standing there with flushed cheeks, her breath coming in ragged hitches as she watched the Orcs approach. When she felt the cold steel of Sheena’s blade near her skin, her entire body gave a violent, visible shudder. She had clearly caught the scent of the genuine killing intent radiating from the blonde doll desu-wa¹.
Hanako cast a frantic glance over her shoulder, then immediately dropped into a low, braced stance, raising the heavy shields on both arms. The red flush drained from her face, replaced by a slight, sickly pallor.
It seemed she had weighed the carnal “pleasure” of the pain she’d receive from the males against the pure “trauma” Sheena was prepared to inflict, and she’d wisely chosen to do her job.
Finally, the lead Orcs crossed the threshold.
”Open fire!” I commanded.
Karen’s magic rifle barked. CRACK-CRACK-CRACK-CRACK!
With Lucy providing the mana-feed, the magic bullets tore through the air. The lead Orc shrieked as rounds punched through its chest and thighs, collapsing instantly. It didn’t stay down for long-it was shredded under the hobnailed boots of its own comrades as they surged forward. Karen didn’t let up, her rifle spitting a continuous staccato that mowed down the central Orcs and the wolves darting between their legs.
In a bottleneck like this, a magic gun is a god-tier asset². If you have the support staff to swap Magic Stones and you don’t mind the staggering cost per shot, there’s simply no better way to clear a room.
But the Orcs weren’t entirely mindless. Seeing the slaughter in the center, they pivoted, swarming toward the flanks to overwhelm Rock and Hanako.
”VOOOOOOOON!” ssu³ Rock bellowed. Our party’s tank raised his Greatshield, catching the overhead swings of two Orc scimitars with a resounding clang.
Hanako let out a sharp, pained yelp-likely from a well-timed prick from Sheena’s rapier-and braced her twin shields against a trio of Orcs. She started to slide back under the sheer physical weight of the assault, but she must have felt Sheena’s presence behind her. With a desperate sob, she dug her heels into the dirt and held the line.
Using our summons as a living wall, Sheena and I lunged. We wove between the shields, hacking at the exposed limbs of the Orcs that had been ground to a halt.
Thwack! Crunch!
Orcs began to pile up in front of our tanks. New combatants tried to shove the corpses aside to reach us, but they were consistently rebuffed by the shields. Rock’s short spear darted out in a blur, impaling a throat here and a gut there, while I followed up by lopping off a sword-arm.
As the corpses clogged the path to our tanks, the rear ranks were forced back toward the center.
They were met by a fresh hail of Sayaka’s ice arrows and the relentless crack of Karen’s rifle.
Soon, the space before our walls fell silent. The last of the Orcs and Green Wolves lay still.
A moment later, Saizou appeared from the village shadows, his sickle dripping with dark blood. He gave a curt nod. The sweep was finished gyoi⁴.
Phew. When the dust settled, the entire skirmish had lasted barely five minutes.
”No Rain Hawks,” I muttered. I’d told Leticia to keep her eyes on the sky, but she never raised the alarm. Perhaps they only spawn from the fifth village onward.
Regardless, a win is a win. We had successfully subjugated the first settlement on the 13th Floor.
I patted Rock’s armored shoulder and turned back to the girls. “Combat’s over! Excellent work, everyone!”
”That was almost too easy,” Sheena said, sheathing her rapier with a flourish. She looked at me with adoration. “As expected of my Master. A Beastman squad would have just charged the gate and gotten themselves surrounded like idiots desu-wa.”
I gave a noncommittal nod. Being compared to Beastmen-who apparently think “strategy” is a synonym for “suicidal frontal assault”-wasn’t much of a compliment, but I’ll take it.
”God, that was terrifying!” Karen stood up, her legs visibly shaking, and immediately clung to Lucy for support.
Karen had the highest body count, but because she’d been holding the open center, she had been the most exposed. She’d spent the last five minutes staring down a wall of muscle and tusks, wondering if one would break through.
”Even when you know the plan, seeing that many monsters charge at once is… chilling,” Sanae added, wiping sweat from her brow.
”Rock-chan and the Master were like a fortress,” Sayaka said, letting the tension bleed out of her shoulders. “They didn’t budge an inch.”
Their contributions were vital. Without their cover fire and harassment, the frontline would have been thinned out. I briefly considered building some kind of portable sniper nest for them, but the weight would be a nightmare to haul through a dungeon.
”Oh! Rock and Hanako are bleeding. Let me help!” Leticia noticed the deep gouges on Rock’s arm joints and the… peculiar wound on Hanako’s rear. She hurried over, her hands glowing with white light.
Rock had taken a few grazes during the melee, which was expected given the Orcs were using heavy scimitars. A quick “Heal” from Leticia closed the wounds in seconds.
I ignored Hanako’s injury. That’s just business as usual.
Since she’s a defense specialist, she rarely takes a direct hit from the front anyway.
Still, her being pushed back by raw strength bothered me. I gave instructions through Sanae for the surviving Orcs to be finished off specifically by Hanako to toughen her spirit.
Outside the walls, several wolves lay twitching, foam bubbling at their muzzles. Saizou’s poison had done its work. He had moved through the outskirts like a ghost, thinning the herd before they ever reached us.
I really need to find another “Magic Sealing Crystal” for him. He’s becoming the most cost-effective unit in the party.
”Good job, Saizou. Rest up,” I said, handing him a bag of black throat lozenges from my Pouch.
”Gyoi,” Saizou replied, bowing low as he accepted the treat with both hands.
While the others scavenged for Magic Stones, I headed into the village alone. The structures here were a step up from the hovels on the lower floors-actual timber houses. I made a beeline for the largest one.
Inside, resting on a stone dais, was a copper treasure chest.
”Well, at least the RNG is on our side today,” I muttered.
On the 12th Floor, the chest spawn was about 70%, and the “Permit” drop rate was a coin flip. I’d hit the chest on the first try here. I flipped the lid.
Inside sat a weapon in a sleek black scabbard and a small silver plate.
”Jackpot.”
I grinned. Getting an “Entry Shard” in the first village was a massive stroke of luck. I picked up the silver plate. It was engraved with a character I didn’t recognize.
”‘Hi’… Sun? Or Day?” I frowned. I was never a scholar, and the nuances of the kanji radicals eluded me. “It’s a piece of a puzzle. I’ll figure it out once I have the set.”
I stowed the shard and grabbed the weapon. It was a single-edged straight blade with a distinct Japanese-style hilt.
”A ninjato?”
The blade was roughly 70cm long. Given the loot patterns on this floor, this was clearly an upgrade for Saizou. Between the sickle, the kunai, and now this, the “Dungeon Architect” clearly had a favorite. I wondered if I should “service” Freya later to see if she’d add more summon gear to the Shop’s secret menu. Recently, she’s been into me performing cunnilingus on her, so she might just listen if I serve her well.
”Yakumo! Did you find it?”
”Is it a hit? Darling, was it a hit!?”
Leticia and Karen appeared at the door, eyes wide with anticipation.
I stepped aside so they could see the chest and held up the ninja sword and the silver shard.
”Whoa! Awesome! I want to open the next one!” Leticia chirped.
”Wait! Isn’t that a Ninja Katana? It’s Saizou’s, right!? Darling, let me see! Let me see!”
”Sure. But don’t get your hopes too high for the next one. Sanae pulled so many duds she gave up on opening them entirely.”
I handed the sword to a beaming Karen and gave Leticia a fair warning.
”I don’t care! I’ve never opened a copper one before, I just want to try!”
”Now that you mention it, we skipped the Guardian battle on the 6th floor. Fine, you can open them until you’re bored of it.”
During Leticia’s power-leveling, Saizou and Lucy were doing all the pulling, so we skipped the Guardians. Leticia hadn’t had the stamina for it anyway, and we were getting enough XP just from the goblin trains.
But it seems she really wanted to open a copper chest. Every wooden one she’d found before had been a dud. Like Karen, she’s a gamer; she wanted the dopamine hit of a “Rare” drop.
”Yay! I’m going to find a High-tier Light Magic book!”
”Haha, I bet. The odds are probably pretty high.”
Since the chests usually drop gear or magic tailored to my party, a Light or Healing book not found in the Shop was a safe bet. Since Leticia has publicly declared herself a Saint, I think something along those lines will come out soon. If she gets a “Light Arrow” or something similar, she can finally join the offensive.
Either way, the first village on the 13th floor is clear, and we have a piece of the Entry Shard. I hope we find another in the next village. Though, that’s probably wishful thinking.
As I was pondering our luck, Karen tugged on my arm.
”Darling! Let’s go give this to Saizou!”
”Yeah, let’s go.”
Pulled along by a grinning Karen, who clearly wanted to see Saizou’s new gear in action, I stepped out of the Orc’s house and back into the light.

Summary:
Yakumo and his party successfully defend their fortified position against a multi-pronged Orc and Green Wolf assault on the 13th floor. The victory is swift, thanks to Karen’s magic rifle and the party’s coordinated defense. Afterward, Yakumo finds a copper treasure chest containing a ‘ninjato’ for Saizou and a mysterious silver ‘Entry Shard’.
—
Trivia:
- Sheena uses psychological and physical pain (pointing her rapier at Hanako’s rear) to force Hanako to focus on her tanking role.
- The ‘Tester Life’ mechanic is still active, now on Day 69.
- Magic guns require Magic Stones and auxiliary mana-feeders (like Lucy) to function at rapid-fire speed.
- Saizou’s effectiveness is highlighted by his poison attacks and efficiency in scavenging.
- Yakumo has a s*xual relationship with the goddess/shopkeeper Freya to influence shop stock
—
Character Insight:
Yakumo displays growing tactical leadership, treating his summons and party members as specialized ‘units’ while managing their psychological triggers (like Hanako’s masochism). Leticia’s gamer instincts are prioritized as she seeks the ‘Rare’ loot dopamine hit.
—
Behind the Scenes:
The ‘ninjato’ reward suggests the dungeon’s reward system ‘listens’ to the party’s composition, a common trope in isekai/LitRPG web novels.
