Chapter 121
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Iris, who heard about her sister’s condition from her father, went straight to her sister’s place dressed as an adventurer.
We’ll follow her too.
Cough, cough, cough, cough…
At the place she hurried to, a guard was standing next to a door.
”Ah, Lady Irisiera!?”
”Is my sister…?”
”She’s…”
”Can I see her?”
”If she’s awake, then yes, but…”
From the guard’s answer, it seemed like her sister wasn’t in danger, but it also didn’t seem like they were encouraging a visit.
Iris probably understood that too, but she had to see her sister, so she knocked on the door.
Knock, knock
”It’s Siera.”
As she called out to the door… after a short while, the door opened, and a maid-like woman showed her face.
There was a screen set up in the room, and the bed that was likely beyond it couldn’t be seen from the entrance.
It was clear that they wanted to keep the person inside from being seen by others.
There was another maid-like woman in the room too, so it seemed like they were working in shifts.
”Lady Irisiera… please come in.”
The woman who responded to Iris had a suspicious look like her parents, but she opened the door to urge Iris inside because of the room’s owner’s wishes.
”…”
Tap, tap, tap…
Since we were going to talk about the curse, Seria had it stick to the ceiling outside, and I quickly followed Iris into the room.
It was a secret that she knew about Ms. Aeris being cursed.
And so… with Iris, I saw the person beyond the screen.
”…It’s been a while, Siera.”
There, Iris’s sister, Ms. Aeris, was a beautiful woman who looked like a larger, blonde version of Iris…
”Sister… um, are you feeling okay?”
”Not really. Well, I broke my arms, so it’s not easy to get up.”
Ms. Aeris was having the maid help her sit up in bed, and it was clear from her clothes that, just as we had heard, her arms were missing from the elbows down.
It seemed like she was pretty worn out too.
If her petrified arm stayed that way, she must have become bedridden to avoid moving it roughly and breaking it.
But since it got shorter, it seems she’s not bedridden anymore… Iris asks her about it.
”You didn’t break it on purpose, right?”
”Yeah. It was tough all of a sudden having to rely on others for everything, and on top of that, you disappeared.”
”That’s…”
”I know. I can tell you were looking for a way to break the curse, and I thought it was for me. I got worried that something might happen to you because of it…”
Of course, for a young woman who had lived without any issues, having to rely on others for eating and using the bathroom was a huge stress.
And if her sister, who was close to her, disappeared… it wouldn’t be hard to guess it was for her sake, and that would add even more stress.
”Dad was looking for a way to break the curse too, and I thought I’d try to bear with it… but I tried to reduce the burden by eating less, and it just made me feel worse and worse.”
”So the arm?”
Hearing this, Iris asks, and Ms. Aeris answers with a self-mocking smile.
”I did it. Haha, what a useless sister I am…”
”That’s not…”
Iris tries to deny her words, but Ms. Aeris shakes her head.
”No. It’s because I was weak, not being able to trust you or our parents.”
Iris raises her voice a little at her words.
”There’s nothing you can do about that! It’s not your fault if you feel anxious and reach your mental limit!”
To break the curse, you either have to rely on the person who cast it or depend on a magic item.
It would be hard to rely on the person who cast it, and as for magic items, there are only records of them being found a long time ago.
Even if someone has one, they probably wouldn’t use it openly, so it’s natural to think the chances are slim.
Faced with this tough problem, most people would lose hope and break down… and her words showed that too.
”Siera…”
Ms. Aeris has tears in her eyes at Iris’s words.
And the caretakers, who seemed about to be touched by the loving sight of the two sisters, were…however, such a sound echoed through the room.
Growllll
What’s that?
It sounds like when you start a car or motorcycle engine.
The sound was coming from the bed, but…just as Iris was thinking that, Ms. Aeris, who was lying on the bed, had turned red in the face.
”I don’t want this…at a time like this”
Iris, seeing Ms. Aeris looking at her stomach, figured out what was going on but decided it was important to confirm it, so she asked her.
