Chapter 127-2

I don’t want people to think I’m some kind-hearted guy, so let me add this.
”Um… well, if it’s through the Amiras merchant guild that helped with this, then I’ll accept whatever I’m owed.”
”Amiras merchant guild? That guild was involved too?”
”Yeah. They helped Lady Siera get to Dungeon City.”
”Siera, is that true?”
When Ms. Alicia asked Iris that, she answered with a slightly awkward look.
”Y-yeah… I don’t think they know you are cursed, but judging from the atmosphere in the mansion, they guessed it was some kind of illness. Since I come and go there, I couldn’t make a fuss, so the guild let me slip into their trade caravan and helped me get to Dungeon City.”
If a merchant guild tied to a noble household starts poking around various medicines, outsiders would definitely think something’s up with that family.
So the guild leader, Ms. Casa, could only help Iris get to Dungeon City, but since it was for her dear friend Ms. Alicia, she secretly helped without telling Viscount Gavrett.
Hearing that, Ms. Alicia suggested this to Ms. Elina.
”Casa, huh… Then Mother, we should prepare some kind of reward for the Amiras merchant guild, including thanks to Mr. Koji, and send it along.”
”Through the merchant guild, right?”
”Yes. How Father feels about Siera going to Dungeon City matters, but if we keep his involvement secret, we can use that as hush money to persuade him.”
”…Very well. Let’s proceed with that.”
Ms. Elina nodded at her words, and the reward issue was settled.
The remaining problem was what to do with me… since I’m supposed to not even be in this mansion.
I can’t just leave openly when I’m not supposed to be here at all.
I decided to return to Iris’s room the same way I came into this one, by turning invisible and slipping out the window.
I’m curious about how Viscount will react to seeing Ms. Alicia like this, but hiding my identity takes priority.
* * *
After turning invisible, Seria and I returned with Iris to her room, where we could finally catch our breath once we were visible again.
”Phew… I’m glad that went well.”
”Thanks to you! I really appreciate it!”
Squish
Iris rushed over to Seria, thanking her and grabbing her hand a bit too roughly.
Iris isn’t very strong, even with a sword, but she seemed to have put too much force into it, which made Seria complain.
”Ack!? That was…”
”Oops! I’m sorry!”
Squeeze
Iris let go immediately and apologized, to which Seria smiled and accepted her apology.
”It’s fine, I understand how you feel. I was the same way once.”
”Yeah, you were.”
Seria’s mother, Ms. Meria, had also been cursed with petrification, so she likely understood Iris’s feelings well.
Iris knew this, and it seemed to bring them closer, knowing Seria had felt much the same way.
”Of course, I’ll reward you, but if you ever have any trouble, let me know. I’ll do anything I can.”
Huh?
Anything?
It was an imprudent thing for a noble lady to say, but it showed just how grateful she was to Seria.
However, Seria didn’t have any issues right now, so she just replied, “Sure, if anything comes up…”
After finishing that exchange, I checked the amount of 10,000 yen bills spent on “Commercial Recovery.”
Clap
Opening the lid of the wooden box, I found that the stack hadn’t gone down at all.
Well, I knew this would happen when I floated the box over.
The weight affects the magic consumption.
After seeing this result, I turned to Seria with a question.
”Seria, *how about*…?”
”Yes. Like this.”
Squish… Squelch, Thud
At my words, she loosened her clothes, then even slid up her underwear to bare her chest.
And there, hanging from a string around her neck, clipped to her chest… was some kind of bill?
Definitely something like money.
I wasn’t sure it was currency because I’d never seen anything like it before.
It was mostly blue paper with letters written in an alphabet──something like “Millio” or “B. Pengo,” but not quite English, and strangely, no numbers anywhere.
Here’s the deal… this was something I prepared in advance: an imitation of the highest denomination bill from my previous life.
I was testing if I could mix it with ten-thousand-yen notes and use Seria’s “Commercial Recovery” on a small amount of bills.
I reached out to Seria’s chest and checked how many bills were tucked there.
I thought I gave her ten…
”1, 2, 3… 9 left.”
”Wait, so only one got used?”
Iris was shocked at the result──and yeah, I was too.
There were supposed to be at least 300 to 400 million yen in that box of bills, but since that didn’t go down, it meant that one mysterious bill was worth even more.
Well… as long as it works, whatever.
But there’s a small problem with only that strange bill going down.
”Commercial Recovery” doesn’t give change if it consumes money, so even minor damage means burning through a single bill worth hundreds of millions.
The magic needed to make it isn’t that high, so maybe it’s not a big deal, but I don’t want Seria acting like she can grab these easily and throw around “Commercial Recovery” carelessly.
That would just risk exposing her powers, and I don’t want that.
So I told both of them the truth──that this strange bill isn’t impossible to get but it’s precious──and I warned Seria to handle it carefully.
Seria, hearing that…
”Um, in that case, I’ll return it.”
She handed back the mysterious bill and the clip with the string it hung from.
It’s paper after all, so it makes sense to protect it from damage by doing that.
So, I took it.
My business here was done, so I decided to leave the mansion for now.
”Well, Seria and I will find a suitable inn.”
Iris suggested this to me.
”Then I’ll introduce you to one. You’ll be going as my bodyguard, so it wouldn’t be strange to be introduced, right?”
”That’s true. But do you even have an inn you can introduce? You don’t usually use them, do you?”
”Of course I do, given my position.”
”I see.”
So, I had Iris prepare a letter of introduction for an inn.
I received it and then left the Gavrett house.
