Chapter 129

I spoke with Ms. Casa, the head of the Amiras merchant guild, and then she opened up the warehouse where the carriage was stored.
”By the way, what happened to Ms. Seria?”
”Oh, she headed to the inn first. Said she wanted to check out another shop along the way.”
When asked about Seria, who was nowhere to be seen, I simply replied she was fine and headed into the warehouse.
As expected, the horses had been left in the stables, and only the carriage’s body was stored there.
I pretended to confirm it was my carriage by peeking inside the cargo bed.
Of course, Seria was there ── hiding behind the wooden box as instructed, her shadow barely visible.
”…!”
Fluttering, the fabric of her cloak swayed softly.
When Seria realized I was peering in, she waved lightly to get my attention.
I want to take her out of here, but with Ms. Casa watching, she’ll have to turn invisible again for now.
Heading to the inn with the carriage makes the most sense──disguise and vanish inside the hood during the ride.
But I’m still not used to controlling the carriage properly, and I don’t want to risk an accident.
I can use Magic Armor to forcibly steer the horses and carriage, but if I hurt the animals, it’d be a nightmare ── for them, and for Ms. Wendy, too.
So, I’d have to leave the carriage here.
But since I arrived with it, I better have a good reason for that.
Maybe I should just admit I’m still not confident handling it yet.
”Um, could I leave the horses and carriage here for now? I’m still not very experienced with managing them.”
”Oh, I see. That’s fine. And as for your luggage?”
”There’s not much I really need to bring along.”
After replying that, I pretended to gather my necessary belongings, then released Seria from the hood’s transparency spell.
Still floating, I bid Ms. Casa a temporary farewell with Seria in tow.
”Well then, I’ll take my leave here.”
”Yes, take care.”
She said it with a smile, then turned around and whispered herself.
”You’ll guide her properly, right?”
”I’ve got it, don’t worry♪”
The one who responded to Ms. Casa was… her mother, Ms. Marisa.
We’re about to head to the inn, but she must have thought I’m clueless about the area, so she offered to guide us.
Can’t deny that I’m a stranger here, and turning her down would be odd, so I just went along with it.
This means it’ll be hard to find a chance to reverse Seria’s invisibility… guess I’ll have to do it at the inn.
She takes my arm, and we start walking.
”Alright, let’s go♪”
”Oh, yeah”
And so, we set off for the inn…
””…””
Thump.
Thump.
The two of the others, nodding silently, caught my attention.
* * *
Before long, we arrived at our destination──the inn.
It’s called the “Moonlight Pavilion,” and it looks pretty upscale, the kind of place a nobleman would recommend.
”I haven’t seen Ms. Seria yet, though. Do you think she’s already at the inn?”
”Ah, I saw her entering the shop a moment ago. She must have wanted to check something out.”
This is risky.
In reality, she’s floating right next to us, and if anyone at the inn asks about her, the fact that I let her go ahead will be exposed as a lie.
”Hmph… whatever, let’s go in.”
With that, Ms. Marisa entered the inn, and as she did, a woman at the reception came to greet us.
”Welcome, to the Moonlight Pavilion. How many guests will there be?”
”Um, just 2? He’s with the Gavrett family’s introduction.”
As she answered, Ms. Marisa glanced my way, and I handed the receptionist the introduction letter from Iris.
The woman who took it was surprised but kept it cool, saying, “Please wait a moment,” before heading to the back of the reception.
Soon, she returned with a dapper gentleman.
He was medium build, medium height, with long white hair tied back, and wore a warm, inviting smile.
”My apologies for the wait. I am Maurice, the proprietor of the Moonlight Pavilion. Lady Irisiera mentioned you were her guests… but regardless, I shall endeavor to provide you with my utmost hospitality.”
”Thank you for your consideration.”
A stuck-up noble might take offense at his words, since the treatment wouldn’t be affected by their status.
But for me, it just sounded like he’d do his best for anyone.
I liked that.
”…Very well. As the letter stated, I shall prepare 2 rooms for you. Shall I have your luggage brought up?”
”No, I’ll carry it myself.”
”Understood. Then, please, follow me to your rooms.”
So Iris had requested 2 rooms.
Well, I guess we’re both her benefactors, Seria and I.
She’s probably trying to be generous to both of us.
Just as I was thinking that and following Mr. Maurice…
”Come on, let’s go♪”
Ms. Marisa casually starts to follow along.
”Wait, you’re coming to the rooms too?”
