Fake-Survivor 131

Chapter 131

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The moment I said I hadn’t laid a finger on Iris, Viscount Gavrett gave me that look──like he seriously wanted to know if I just wasn’t attracted to her as a woman.

Oh great. That’s one hell of a loaded question.

If I say I am attracted to her, he’ll think I’ve been making moves on her. If I say I’m not, she’ll get upset anyway.

While I was busy biting my tongue, Ms. Elina ended up tossing me a literal lifeline.

”Honestly, isn’t this just a pointless detail?”

”I’m not asking out of some ridiculous father complex. There are reasons I can’t go into here, but for the sake of what comes next, I have to confirm the facts.”

Ah… So that’s how it is. Since Ms. Alicia’s cursed, there’s no way they’ll let her marry into the royal family. So instead, they’re thinking of lining up Iris as the candidate.

He can’t spell it out because, on the books, I’m just a guard tagging along.

 I already saw that coming…

but if the other party’s royalty, yeah, I get why they’d want to check if I have any “experience.”

For nobles and royals in this world, bloodlines are everything.

The kid’s got to be the real deal, or one day, family drama’s going to blow everything up.

And on that note, pretty sure this world doesn’t have DNA tests… so what do they even do if things get suspicious?

Eyeball the kid and hope for the best?

Anyway, not my circus, not my monkeys.

Still, with things headed this way, I’ve got no choice but to double-down and deny ever sleeping with Iris.

So… even if it’s awkward as hell with her right in front of me, guess I’ll have to say she’s just not my type.

”Um, just speaking for myself… Lady Irisiera isn’t really someone I ever see that way.”

 ”──!”

 Iris flinched──just for a second.

She knows I’m lying through my teeth, so that’s the only reaction I get.

Never mind that we’ve hooked up more times than I can count.

And now… here comes the real fun.

The viscount throws a question right back at me.

”Oh? So what kind of women do you fancy, then?”

”Eh? Ah──uh, well… Guess I’m into women who are a bit older than me, actually.”

Honestly, I prefer women who are clearly past the point of being treated like children.

Personally, being called a lolicon is a huge misunderstanding.

So, when I gave that answer… it was Ms. Alicia who spoke up next.

 ”Then… what about me?”

 ”””Huh?!”””

And then, other voices joined in.

 No surprise there, right?

I mean, who wouldn’t react to a comment like that?

Of course, the Viscount jumped in with a sharp retort.

”Alicia, what on earth are you saying all of a sudden?”

”Well, my engagement is over, right? So… how about I work together with Mr. Koji, the one who helped with my case? Doesn’t that sound like a good idea?♡”

Ms. Alicia threw a heated glance at me as she said that.

She probably thinks I’m the one who broke her curse with the magic item I had.

In reality, Seria was just as much responsible, so… it feels a bit awkward.

While I was caught up in that, the Viscount pressed on with the conversation.

”No, you’re really not much different from Siera, are you?”

”Three years isn’t much of a difference, is it?”

 ”Not much different at all.”

”That’s probably true for father, though, right? I bet it’s just because 3 years makes a big difference in his eyes compared to someone like you.”

Ms. Alicia shot back with a smug grin, but the Viscount responded with an exasperated look.

”It’s true for me, but… what matters is the age gap between you and Siera.”

 ”Ugh.”

Ms. Alicia was left at a loss for words in response to the Viscount’s statement.

After all, this whole conversation started because of Iris, and the difference between her and me is what really matters.

Just as I thought this might settle down, Ms. Elina raised her hand.

 ”Well then… what about me?~♪”

 ”””Huh?!”””

Once again, shocked voices filled the room.

Ms. Elina puffed out her cheeks, clearly annoyed by the reactions.

 ”I was just asking, okay…?”

”Sigh… we’re talking about something serious here! And come on, there’s no way he’s close enough in age for that to even work, right?”

Maybe he thinks Ms. Elina was just joking, because the Viscount throws the question to me──all casual, like he’s not talking about actual scandal.

Meanwhile, I’m sweating bullets since, well… I’m the one actually doing the scandalous stuff.

She probably makes those comments knowing no one takes her seriously, but seriously──if anyone ever finds out, it’ll be a nightmare.

I’d really appreciate it if she’d cut it out.

For now, I play along and toss the Viscount a polite compliment about his taste in women.

”Well, I mean, your wife is absolutely gorgeous, so she is my type… but I wouldn’t dare lay a finger on her. That’s a line I won’t cross.”

 ”Hmm… yes, I suppose that’s true.”

He doesn’t seem bothered by the praise for Ms. Elina.

In fact, the Viscount looks downright pleased as he nods and moves the conversation along.

”Ahem. Anyway, let’s set the matter with Siera aside for now. I’m prepared to give you your reward… but tell me, is there anything you want besides money?”

 ”Besides money, huh?”
