Fake-Survivor 132-2

Chapter 132-2

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Even though Iris has her own exclusive guard, it’s not like Ms. Elina or Ms. Alicia are totally out of the picture, so it’s not weird for them to drop by and check things out.

So, me and Roga ended up facing each other in the wide-open space of the training ground, ready to start the match when the instructor dude gave the signal.

 ”Begin!”

 ”Aaaaah!”

 Thud!

As soon as the signal was given, Roga charged in, swinging a practice longsword with a blunted edge.

I took the hit head-on, equipped with my basic gear.

 Clang!

 ”Guh…”

 Thud!

After taking my hit, Roga leaps back to put some distance between us, looking unfazed.

”…Not bad, that weird weapon of yours isn’t just regular iron, huh?”

”Well, yeah. It’s pretty sturdy, but that’s about it.”

The “weird weapon” he’s talking about is a tonfa made from some unknown material, which is pretty rare even in Dungeon City.

It’s super durable, able to withstand even Ferris’s fierce attacks, and he’s a dragon in human form with otherworldly strength.

I thought about not needing its toughness since I’m using Magic Armor, but there’s a chance the enemy might notice the armor if I take a hit.

So, I decided not to use Magic Armor on the tonfa itself and try to block attacks with it as much as possible.

Roga seems to have grasped the strength of the tonfa and my Magic Armor-enhanced power in just one exchange, but he still doesn’t seem convinced and keeps on attacking.

 ”Hah!”

 Clang!

 ”Hmph!”

 Clang!

 ”Oooh!”

 Clang, clink…

Even though I don’t really know much about swordsmanship, I was able to handle all his attacks thanks to the power of Magic Armor.

I’m still holding off his sword with the tonfa from above… but after a while, the sword loses its strength and starts to fall away.

 ”Whew, I lose.”

 ”Ooh…”

Roga declares his defeat, and voices of admiration rise from around us.

Considering how hard he pushed, it’s pretty honest, or maybe just calm, of him to admit defeat like that.

He’s pretty straightforward for someone who just got owned.

Well, from his side, wanting to size up my skills was totally natural.

It wasn’t just because he didn’t like me.

 Anyway.

It wasn’t flashy or anything, but nobody got hurt, nothing got broken, so honestly?

That’s the best ending I could’ve asked for.

”Mm. I’ll be counting on you, Koji.”

 ”Yeah, you got it.”

With that, the Viscount nodded, seemed satisfied after checking my skills as a bodyguard, and headed out of the training yard with a look of relief.

Now, nobody’s gonna complain about me getting hired here.

So with that settled, it’s official──I’d be living with the Gavrett family.

But… the big headache on my first day wasn’t that.

It was something that happened right after.

* * *

Once the Gavretts finished dinner, me and Seria grabbed food in the servants’ dining hall, then headed back to my room.

”Looks like nobody’s gonna complain about Mr. Koji’s skills, at least.”

 ”Yeah, seems like it.”

Some other servants chatted me up in the dining hall, but honestly, most of those conversations were all about me and Seria.

It was almost all women asking questions, too… I guess if any of the guys started poking around about whether me and Seria were dating, it’d look like they were trying to steal her or something.

That’s probably why almost none of the men brought it up, and when they did, they kept it super casual.

They’d heard about my little match with that up-and-comer, Loga, too.

Maybe that made them decide picking a fight with me was a bad idea.

The women, on the other hand, were *very* enthusiastic about it.

Guess people like talking about romance no matter what world you’re in.

Anyway, since Seria and I aren’t actually together, I set them straight.

After dinner, we headed back to my room.

We were just talking about what comes next when… Someone knocked on my door.

 Super soft.

 *knock*… *knock*…

 ”Yeah? Who is it?”

 ”…It’s Alicia.”

 ””Wh-What?!””

Me and Seria both froze up.

 Definitely wasn’t expecting HER.

Yeah, it’s technically her house… but, come on, it’s late.

Not really the time for a girl to be dropping by a guy’s room alone.

I tried to say that through the door… and after a pause, she replied.

 Voice way quieter.

”I just… I wanted to talk. Uh… About my mother.”
