Chapter 141
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Seria’s “Commercial Recovery” spell forced something strange and dangerous out of Viscount Gavrett’s body.
That thing… a man cloaked in mystery. People believed he had something to do with Ms. Alicia’s curse. He was caught once, then let go on purpose. We weren’t being merciful. We wanted to follow him back to the people he worked with.
And I was the one who had to follow him.
Chasing someone like that should’ve been hard. But I had my own trick.
I used my “Imitation” ability to make a tool that could track him. When I grabbed him before, I stuck a little magic glue to his hair. Just in case, I also put some on his clothes, but those got tossed away while he ran.
Good thing I stuck it right on his body, a place with no feeling.
He might’ve worn a wig… but when I touched his head during the capture, I checked. It wasn’t a wig.
Now, he walked boldly down the street with a long cloak over his shoulders. He looked like a normal townsperson—at least from far away.
But when I looked close, I saw his feet. Bare. No shoes. Just skin hitting the ground.
Maybe under that cloak, he wore only his underpants.
He didn’t carry a bag. Not even a weapon. For someone who needed to stay hidden, walking around like that made him scary in a different way. He seemed more like a killer than a curse caster.
He wasn’t moving fast. But he kept walking away from the Gavrett estate. He took turns often, leaving the main roads, heading out toward the edge of town.
I left the house like normal, then slipped into an alley and turned invisible. I climbed up for a better view.
That’s when I saw him.
”Huh?”
Roga. That soldier from the Gavrett family. The same one who said I wasn’t strong enough to protect Iris. He was following the man, too.
I guess the Gavretts didn’t just send me. But if that was true, where were the others? Normally, you’d send a group. Not just one guy.
Roga wasn’t even using the same route. He took a different path, but he still stayed close.
It was like he knew where the man was going.
That was suspicious.
* * *
I kept following. The man finally stopped near some warehouses and slipped inside one of them.
A short while later, Roga showed up from another side and entered the same warehouse. He looked more like he was trying not to be seen than actually chasing someone.
Clang.
I heard the door shut behind him. The sound was heavy—like a bar lock. A kan-nuki.
That meant someone locked it from the inside.
So… they were working together.
No way this was just about stopping the target from running. Roga was helping him. He was part of it.
I could open the door and rush in, but if they were near the entrance, I might get caught. I needed to know more—like who the real leader was, or if there were others involved. I needed to listen in first.
I made a small magic camera. A fiber scope. I covered it in invisible magic and slipped it through the cracks.
Inside, it was pitch black. But the scope had night vision and a soft light. With that, I could see in the dark.
At first, I didn’t spot anyone. Maybe they were hiding.
I moved the camera deeper, sliding it along the wall.
Still no sign of them.
But I found something else.
In the back corner, there was a shelf. It had scrape marks on the floor. Someone had moved it.
Behind it, a staircase led down into the floor.
Hidden stairs. Perfect.
No one could see me from the inside. If I unlocked the door carefully, I could sneak in without making a sound.
I looked around to make sure no one was nearby.
Then I unlocked the bar.
Clank.
I slipped inside and shut the door behind me.
Quietly, I locked it again.
Then I moved forward, floating in the air, staying just above the floor—completely silent.
