Chapter 7
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
As I gazed at the dragon-like creature flying towards me through my binoculars, I quickly restored the item I had left on the mountain peak to its magical state and retrieved it.
Then, I covered myself in Magic Armor and hid in the shade of the mountain peak, opposite the direction the dragon was coming from. But that’s as far as I could go.
WHOOSH… BUUUAHHH!!!
The dragon, or what I thought was a dragon, landed on the mountain peak where I had been staying until just now.
I figured I couldn’t move carelessly under its immense magical power, so I remained hidden in the shade, enduring the magic consumption.
That’s when one strange thing happened.
Huh? My body covered in Magic Armor is gone?
I touched my body to confirm, and it felt like it was still there, but I could see right through it.
This is a first.
I’ve never tried to hide so desperately before, but it seems my intention was reflected.
At the same time, the rate of magic consumption skyrocketed… maybe because it’s reflecting the scenery on the other side of my body in real-time.
Well, it’s better than being found out.
I’ll just descend to the ground and blend into the forest… huh?
………
It’s too quiet.
It might have flown away from far off, or maybe it’s just resting… but there’s only a faint magic reaction.
Where did the dragon go?
I was so caught up in the fact that I was transparent that I didn’t even notice its magic disappearing…
”Hey.”
Well, it’s fine for me.
”Hey, you over there!”
Just as I was about to start moving quietly, I got ‘yelled’ at from above.
”You! Little guy!”
”Huh? …Huh?”
As I looked up at the loud voice…there was a beautiful woman, around 20 years old, staring down at me.
Naked.
With her hands on her hips and a confident stance, her abundant chest and smooth thighs were clearly reflected in my eyes.
”Huh, can you see me?”
”No. But I can sense your presence.”
”But didn’t you say I was small?”
”You’re covering your body with magic. That’s how I can sense your size and shape. I was able to talk to you because I took on a human form.”
I see.
If I didn’t know she were human, I wouldn’t have tried to talk to her.
”Ah, I see…but that’s not the issue! Wait a minute! That’s dangerous!”
I panicked and warned her as I recalled the dragon, but she didn’t flinch, staying calm and asking me instead.
”What’s wrong?”
”Not back there, back there!”
”Huh?”
The woman didn’t change her stance, twisting her body to look behind her, and then quickly turned back to me.
”There’s nothing there?”
”What? That can’t be…”
”Then I’ll confirm it with my own eyes.”
”Ah…”
As I was told, I looked up a bit and peeked through the woman’s legs to see the mountain top, but there was no sign of the dragon’s shadow.
”What’s going on?”
I thought, and then something suddenly fell right in front of my eyes.
It was soft and white, like a closed clamshell, and it was……
”Did you see something?”
”Uh, your… crotch…”
Yeah, because she had crouched down to talk to me, her crotch were now right in front of my face.
I thought I had pointed it out, but she didn’t seem to mind and continued the conversation.
”Anyway, Nothing was there, right?
”Hmm, that’s true, but…I’m sure it descended onto that spot.”
”What’s going on?”
”I’m not sure if I’m correct, but…I think it’s a dragon.”
”Ah…I see, that’s it. Take a look.”
She replied, and the mysterious beauty with a puzzled expression stood up and headed towards the wide open space.
She stopped in her tracks, turned towards me, and transformed into a massive creature while releasing an enormous amount of magical power.
”Grrr…”
The enormous creature occupied almost the entire mountain peak plaza.
It was indeed the dragon I had recognized earlier.
It seems that she can transform into a human from a dragon, and at that time, she was able to suppress her overflowing magical power naturally.
That’s why I lost sight of the dragon’s magical power and didn’t realize the woman in front of me was a dragon.
I was also shaken by the existence of such immense magical power.
Moreover, I did detect a small reaction from the magic stone, but… well, the difference between her dragon and human forms was enormous, so I didn’t think they were the same individual.
* * *
”So, why are you naked?”
”I don’t always carry human clothes with me, and I don’t always have them on hand either.”
After seeing the dragon transform into a human, I recreated the tent and had a conversation with Ms. Dragon inside it.
”Then, don’t you have trouble talking to people like this?”
”If I have an appointment to meet with humans, I prepare clothes accordingly. Well, it’s not like I meet with them frequently, and…anyone who looks at me with impolite eyes can be dealt with.”
”…I’m sorry.”
Her reply made me feel uneasy.
I was worried about how I’d be treated, but since I apologized and handed over the bathrobe, Ms. Dragon seemed to forgive me.
Well… considering my tent isn’t that big, and she’s sitting cross-legged, I’m pretty sure I could see up her crotch.
But since there’s a small table in the way, I can’t actually see anything.
”Hmm, well, I suppose it’s fine. But for a kid, you’re taking an interest in some pretty mature stuff. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but… it’s hard to say you’re acting your age.”
As she say this, I’m drawn to her large chest, which she’s jiggling around, and I give a vague answer while preparing some tea.
”Uh… how do I put this? It’s complicated.”
”That’s quite a way to put it, don’t you think? Wouldn’t it be better to just tell the truth?”
Since I can sense the magic of the magic stone, I know I’m dealing with a strong opponent, and I don’t feel like lying to her… so I decide to explain my situation to Ms. Dragon over some tea and cake.
”Hmm… so you’ve got memories from a past life, and you were reincarnated into a different world. And on top of that, you’ve got a title that’s basically a death sentence.”
Hmm, hmm.
From what I’ve said so far, it’s clear that I’ve had some pretty unusual experiences, and it’s not like my title is a secret or anything.
After listening to my story, she finishes her cake and drains the remaining tea.
”Mmm… ah, this is good. You made this with your powers, right? It’s delicious, and it’s even better since it’s got a bit of magic stone in it. Your parents must have been idiots to exile you, right?”
”The amount of magic needed varies depending on the object, so it’s not like I can get by with just a little magic stone… but, well, I guess they didn’t want to be suspected of counterfeiting gold or valuables. It wasn’t just a family problem, either…”
”Fundamentally, it’s a serious crime anywhere, isn’t it? But… do you not resent being banished?”
”Mentally, I’m an adult, so I can understand the circumstances, and I have the strength to survive this way.”
”So, what do you plan to do from now on?”
”I’ll head west in a few years.”
”West? Why’s that?”
”Probably because I was brought here from the east.”
”I see. Waiting for a few years… it’s still too early for a solo journey with that appearance, isn’t it?”
”Yeah.”
It’s only natural that a 10-year-old traveling alone would be suspicious, isn’t it?
She said that, and then.
”Hmm… then I’ll stay here for a while.”
”Huh?”
”Don’t you mind?”
My reaction seemed to upset her, and Ms. Dragon’s face looked slightly angry.
Having an existence that can erase me with just a thought right next to me is pretty stressful, and even though she can take on a beautiful form, I’d like to decline… but since the possibility of being erased is increasing right now, I’ll try to deceive her with all my might.
”No, I mean, you’re not living here, are you?”
”Ah, I just came to stock up on food for winter. I do that whenever my other hunting grounds become scarce.”
Oh…
So, I guess I’m being ‘taken care’ of by Ms. Dragon and dumped in this forest or something.
And, the reason monsters and animals don’t come near this rocky mountain is that it’s like her vacation home, where she occasionally drops by.
…Yeah, this place is ridiculously dangerous.
Apparently, the last time Ms. Dragon came here was 3 years before I arrived, and it seems like she didn’t mind coming again.
The villagers who brought me here were in grave danger too.
Maybe it was chosen as their punishment for something they did wrong…
Anyway, that’s Ms. Dragon for you.
For now, I’m okay, but I want to get through this peacefully.
”If so, it would be better to stay in a place with plenty of food…”
She gives me a sly look when I say that.
”That’s why I came here, but someone has been ‘causing’ trouble for 5 years, and there’s not enough food. Of course, it’s not enough, so we need to make that ‘someone’ take responsibility, don’t we?”
It’s obvious that the ‘someone’ she’s talking about is me… But no matter how much magic I have, I don’t think I can produce enough food to fill a dragon’s stomach.
So I try to appeal to her.
”B… But, to make food, I need magic, and to secure that magic, I need magic stones. If the amount of prey is decreasing, that means my magic won’t increase either, and the magic I’ve saved up so far won’t be enough to satisfy you.”
”Is that so? Since I’m with you, it’s better for me to be in human form, so I’ll stay in this form. In that case, the amount of food I need will decrease.”
”Eh? But won’t that affect your health?”
”It’s fine if I stay in human form. If I go back to my original form, I’ll get hungry, but… if I can get through the winter and the amount of prey increases, it’ll be okay. If not, I’ll go hunting in my original form in a different land.”
”Ahh, I see…”
I’ve lost the chance to refuse, thanks to her.
And of course, I don’t have the courage to refuse because of my own circumstances.
Well… maybe it was impossible for me to overturn her decision from the start, given our power dynamic.
”For now, let’s eat. What I had earlier wasn’t enough.”
”Ahh, Okay.”
With that, our cohabitation was decided, and I confirmed some things with Ms. Dragon.
”So, what should I call you?”
”Ah, I didn’t tell you. It’s Lunamaria.”
”I see, Ms. Lunamaria.”
She asked me in response.
”And, is it okay to keep calling you Norn? Since no one comes here, I think it’s fine…but wouldn’t it be better to have a name that’s okay to be heard by others?”
According to her, it’s well-known that this place is her hunting ground, and basically, people don’t approach this forest.
But, there’s no guarantee that there won’t be exceptions like me who come here, and I’ll leave the forest and use a different name someday, so it’s better to decide on one now.
A name…
”Then, call me Koji.”
”Kouji?”
”Yes, it was my name in my past life.”
”I see. Nice to meet you, Koji.”
”Yes. Uh…please go easy on me.”
”That’s up to you.”
”Ah, yeah.”
And so, I began my life as Koji once again.
