Chapter 228 Gunilla and Romy

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 (Gunilla’s POV)

Wow, my name is Gunilla Leobendorf.

 I’m a half-breed, born to a Titan mother and a human father.

I lost my dad early on, and it was just me and my mom living in a Titan village.

After my mom passed away from illness a year ago, I’ve been shunned in the village because of my ‘small body.’ Eventually, I set out on a journey to the ‘outside world’ as if I was being kicked out.

I finally made it to the human town of Reedull, way up in the north of the Yugria Continent, but everyone just looked at me weirdly because of my ‘big body’ and wouldn’t talk to me no matter what I asked.

 That’s when I met her.

I managed to scrape together enough money for a meal and walked into a diner, and there she was──a little rabbit girl.

”I’m Romy Svilar. Nice to meet you!”

”W-well, mah name’s Gunilla Leobendorf. Mighty pleased t’meetcha…”

The two of us sat across from each other, having a modest meal in the corner of the diner.

Apparently, Romy had also lost her parents and left her village.

 She said,

”Let’s go to the adventurer guild! There might be some jobs we can do!”

Even though Romy came to this town, it seems she couldn’t find any work.

”All I’m good at is running fast…”

”I don’t have any special skills either… The only thing I can brag about is my strength…”

Even with our lack of skills, we figured that if we registered as adventurers, we could at least handle some errands or gathering requests.

We registered at the adventurer guild.

Both of us got rank G.

 Well, that makes sense.

We can’t fight and have no experience.

Still, even as the lowest rank, we became adventurers, so we started tackling small requests little by little.

It was a small reward, but still, I managed to earn enough to sleep in a storage room for meals and lodging.

From that little income, I started saving money to head towards the fortress city Mundo where there were dungeons.

”If we head on over t’the guild in that town with the dungeon, reckon we can git us a job as ‘Porters.’ Pay’s bound t’be better’n what we’re makin’ now!”

I heard it’s a job carrying stuff for adventurers.

”Well, I reckon I could do a job like that… but I ain’t so sure if I’d be any good at it…”

 I’m strong, at least.

If I can use that one skill.

 ”But I’m not confident…”

”Don’t you worry none. We’ll work together, an’ it’ll be just fine. I’ll take care’a my share too.”

 ”Hehe… thanks, Gunilla.”

We’ve helped each other this far.

”An’ we’ll keep on stickin’ together, won’t we?”

As I whispered that, Romy gave me a bright smile in return.

Half a year passed, and I finally saved enough for the journey, so we hitched a ride on a caravan heading to fortress city Mundo.

It was a bit pricey, probably because of the shady half-Titan and rabbit beastfolk.

Neither of us could really warm up to this Reedull town.

* * *

On the 6th day of our journey, the caravan arrived at Razia Village in the eastern Margrave territory.

We’d be staying here for a couple of days to trade some goods.

”Since we’re here, how ’bout we stop by the guild an’ take on some small request or somethin’?”

Even though it was a village, it felt livelier and more bustling than the Reedull town we were in.

Romy and I felt a bit more energized and ran to the guild.

The guild branch we reached was really new and way bigger than you’d expect for a village.

”…Shoot, it’s bigger than the adventurer guild back in Reedull…”

 Romy and I gasped.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed, we mustered our courage and opened the door to the building.

And then, I heard about the ‘Raetia Great Labyrinth.’ It was discovered about a week ago, and the first Adventure Party has explored up to the Second Floor.

The minimum rank required for that lower level is E.

They say a balanced party of 6 is needed, and having a Thief is a must.

 This was announced just today.

What’s even better is that there were tons of requests for ‘Porters’.

 ”Gunilla! We’re needed here!”

 ”Yeah… looks like there’s a whole heap o’ work to do here…”

We processed our paperwork at the guild.

We showed our adventurer cards and told the cute receptionist that we wanted to take on requests as Porters.

While we were doing that, someone tapped me on the shoulder from behind.

 ”Hey, are you girls Porters?”

 ”Y-Yeah, we are…”

Romy responded to the 6 guys who approached us.

I have a strong accent, so I’m really not good at talking to others.

”I can see the big girl over there, but you’re pretty small… can you even carry stuff?”

 ”…W-Well, she might have a bit o’ trouble, but I’ll be carryin’ more, so don’t y’all worry…”

 ”…What did you say?”

Since my voice is quiet and my accent is thick, the guy who seemed to be the leader asked again.

”I’ll do my best, but this girl will make up for what I can’t carry, so it’s all good!”

 ”Hmm… then it’s no problem.”

 It was settled.

The reward was 5 silver coins a day.

They said they’d split the loot we brought back evenly, but it seems that would count as one share for Romy and me.

”Well, we’ll provide meals for you. How does that sound?”

 ”O-Okay!”

Romy replied, a bit surprised by the offer.

The Adventure Party made a promise to meet here tomorrow morning and left the guild.

”Phew, that’s one silver coin a day fer the two of us…”

”Wow… we can get that much…?”

After seeing the party off, we both stood there, a bit stunned.

* * *

We returned to the caravan and told them we’d be staying in this village.

The merchant in charge of the caravan gave us half of our travel expenses back when he heard that.

”I appreciate all the help you gave me on the way. …So, do your best in this village!”

I was told thank you for the first time by someone, and I got a little teary-eyed.

* * *

With the travel expenses I got back, I booked a place to stay.

Even after paying for a week, I still had plenty of money left.

Plus, I could also get rewards from exploring.

”I heard this village is famous for its hot springs! Let’s go check it out!”

Being pulled along by Romy, I headed towards the hot springs.

* * *

 The hot springs felt amazing.

It was my first time in a bath, but both Romy and I loved it.

All the travel fatigue just vanished in an instant.

The ‘coffee milk’ I had after the bath was super tasty too.

 ”I… really like this village.”

”Yeah. Folks at the inn an’ the hot springs, nobody treats us any different…”

”And it’s kind of lively here too.”

After finishing our coffee milk, we headed back to the inn.

We had dinner in the dining room on the first floor of the inn.

The prices seemed cheaper than in Reedull town, and we enjoyed a pretty big dinner.

We both ordered a little beer, toasted, and drank.

* * *

”Starting tomorrow… let’s do our best.”

As I snuggled into bed, Romy whispered next to me.

”Yeah. We’ll both give it all we got…”

Feeling the luck finally coming our way, I drifted off to sleep.
