Two familiar faces greeted me with smiles.
”I’m sorry. I know it’s surprising for an old enemy to show up suddenly.”

Shinji said this with a laugh.
”Come on, you two, please enter the mansion.”
Milia waved us in.
I handed my horse over to a young guard and followed Shinji and Milia with Hernando and Esperanza.

”So Shinji and Milia have become a couple…”
I was guided to the reception room and sat on the sofa.
”We’re not a couple!”
”Oh, really?”
They looked very close, but my words made their faces cloud over.
”…What’s wrong?”
”Actually… you see?”
Milia began to tell the story of what happened 2 years ago.
It seemed that the ‘reincarnation of the Demon King’ they had raised as their eldest son, along with his girlfriend, and Megumi, who had become Shinji’s wife, were kidnapped by Azradelius.
Both Shinji and Milia wore pained expressions.

”Still doing cowardly things…”
I thought about my former comrade (Azradelius), whom I could never bring myself to like.
”Is Hiroya the ‘reincarnation of the Demon King’?”
I asked about Shinji’s son, whom I had heard about from the Purple Flame Demon Princess.
”Hiroya is the ‘real son’ born to Shinji and Megumi. Even though he’s only 11, he’s already the strongest swordsman among adventurers in Raetia.”
”Do you need something from Hiroya?”
Shinji asked with a hint of worry.
”Hehe… you have a father’s expression, Shinji. ──Don’t worry, I just want to meet him. I’ve heard about him from the Purple Flame Demon Princess.”
Hearing my answer, Shinji let out a relieved sigh.
It’s amusing to see that ‘2-handed’ Shinji gets so emotional about his son.
”Hiroya lives in the southern residential area. He’s a member of the clan and is with his friends.”
”Oh, but he might be on patrol or guarding duties at the ‘Grand Market’.”
Listening to Shinji and Milia, it’s hard to believe he’s just an 11-year-old boy.
”I want to say take his time, but…”
”He must be busy at the ‘Grand Market’, right? I’ll check out the village first and then visit Hiroya’s house tonight.”
I take a sip of the tea that the maid here served.
It’s quite delicious.
”No, you must be tired from your journey. There’s a great hot spring here. There’s also a treatment place, and Hiroya’s house has hot spring water too. I’ll have the guard──Raiden──from earlier show you the way, so you can go now. I’ll arrange for your stay. Just relax.”
”I can’t trouble your son that much…”
Shinji and Milia smile at my attempt to decline.
”The members of that clan are all good-natured folks… so there’s no need to hold back, okay? Besides──”
”Ah, the food is amazing.”
Shinji and Milia encourage me with smiles.
Hearing that the food is amazing, Hernando and Esperanza swallow hard.
”Hehe… sorry, my attendants seem to be hungry too. I think I’ll head there right away. ──Can I ask for your guidance?”
At my words, Hernando and Esperanza look down, their faces turning bright red.
”On the last night of the ‘Grand Market’, will you come visit us again? Megumi won’t be here, but… I’ll call Van too. Let’s all catch up.”
”Is that okay?”
”An old ‘friend’ has come to visit. Let’s drink and celebrate together.”
Shinji and Milia’s kindness makes my eyes a little misty.
”‘Friend.’ You call me that?”
”Yes.”
”Of course!”
(…My previous ‘battle’ was not in vain.)
I have gained such a ‘precious friend.’
For the first time, I felt grateful for my fate.
