Chapter 505 Rookie

(Mira Degener’s POV)
”Since we’re finally going to Raetia, I wish it was during the Grand Market…”
As the long journey from the Royal Capital seemed to be coming to an end, I was complaining to my friends in the rattling carriage.
Tomorrow morning, we would arrive at Razia Village, in Baron O’Brian’s territory, where the rumored Great Labyrinth Raetia is located, but it’s the day after the big commercial event, the Grand Market, ends.
”It can’t be helped… The inns are going to be full during the Grand Market, and besides, I heard the Great Labyrinth is closed.”
Amel Pitzner, who graduated from the Adventurer Training Institute’s Thief course with me last spring, said this to soothe my foul mood.
He takes on a leader-like role among the 4 of us who graduated from the training institute.
The others are rookies like us, who graduated from the Thief course last spring.
”But I get what Mira’s saying. I wanted to check out the Grand Market too.”
”Right?” said Emanuela Gerdeller, clinging to my left arm.
”Hey, Ema, you’re clinging too much.”
”Aww, it’s fine.”
I peeled off the clinging Emanuela.
”Yeah, it’s true. We won’t be able to dive into the Great Labyrinth right after we arrive… And even if they say there are no inns available, there’s got to be a lodging for adventurers in Raetia, right?”
Zamie Abeille sat sloppily in the carriage seat with his legs thrown out.
”That’s not it, Zamie. The lodging isn’t available right away. You have to apply at the guild… I think it’s about 3 days? The process takes time, so we have to stay at an inn in the meantime.”
Amel leaned forward to explain this to Zamie.
”It’s definitely a shame that the Grand Market is over, but Raetia is said to be much livelier than other regional cities. Until our respective parties are decided, why don’t we check out our new base?”
Everyone reluctantly nodded at Amel, who spoke cheerfully.

My name is Mira Degener.
I graduated from the training facility last spring and spent a year as an apprentice in a rank C party in the Royal Capital.
During that time, I desperately gained practical experience, and by graduation, I managed to raise my adventurer rank from F to D, which is considered competent.
The 4 people here are all ‘Thieves.’
I met these peers when I entered the ‘Thief Course’ at the training facility 2 years ago, just when the adventurer guild started focusing on training Thieves.
After graduation, like me, they each gained practical experience in various parties.
And finally, since we all became competent, we decided to go to Raetia together.
To challenge the ‘Labyrinth,’ where a Thief’s skills are truly tested──

”I hope everyone can join a good party.”
The one saying this to everyone is Amel Pitzner, who graduated from the Thief Course with excellent grades.
At 15, he is the oldest among us.
…Though, everyone else is 14, so there’s only a one-year difference.
”The guild is short on Thieves right now, right? Plus, for the exploration of the Great Labyrinth Raetia, we’ll be in high demand.”
This optimistic guy is Zamie Abeille.
”High demand, huh… Aren’t you bad at lockpicking? You’re good with a sword, but if you neglect your skills as a Thief… you might not get picked by any party.”
”I get it… I’ll practice properly, Ema.”
The one scolding Zamie is Emanuela Gerdeller.
Everyone affectionately calls her ‘Ema.’
She has quite a spoiled personality, so everyone treats her like a little sister.
”In that regard, Mira is good at Detection, lockpicking, and disarming traps. The things I learned from Mira have been really helpful!”
”Haha… but in return, I’m completely hopeless at combat and stealth…”
Yeah.
I’m really bad at combat.
That’s why I prioritized and developed my skills as a Thief.
”No, purely as a Thief, Mira is way better than me.”
Amel says that, but I think he’s actually more skilled overall, with high Thief skills and pretty good swordsmanship.
”That’s true. No matter how good your sword skills are, what’s needed as a Thief is more like Mira than Zamie.”
”Tch…──Mira… once we get to Raetia, teach me a lot, okay?”
”Sure.”
Zamie, feeling down after being scolded by Ema, put her hands together and asked me, so I smiled and responded.

The next morning, the carriage arrived at Raetia and stopped in front of the guild branch.
We got off the carriage with our luggage and were stunned in front of the guild branch building.
”…for a local guild branch, it’s…”
”Yeah, it’s pretty big…”
Zamie and Ema muttered quietly.
Together with those 2, Amel and I were also looking up at the 3-story building.
It was more impressive than we had expected for a branch, so everyone was taken aback.
Of course, the guild headquarters in the Royal Capital is larger, but this building is far too grand for a local city branch.
”Well, let’s get registered for now.”
Urged by Amel, we entered the building.
* * *
”Amel Pitzner, 15 years old, Rank D. …Mira Degener, 14 years old, Rank D. …Zami Abeille, 14 years old, Rank E. …Emanuela Gerdella, 14 years old, Rank E. ──Okay, confirmed. As of today, you all are now part of the Raetia branch──welcome to Raetia.”
The female staff member at the guild completed the transfer process to this Raetia branch for us.
She was efficient, so it was done in no time.
At the same time, it seemed she also handled the housing arrangements, introducing us to accommodations until we could move in.
”We can also help arrange parties here, but it’s a good idea to check the bulletin board for member recruitment first. There’s a high demand for Thieves.”
As I thanked her and stepped away from the counter, the female staff member called out to me.
”What should we do?”
”I want to settle down at the inn first.”
Since Ema was the first to respond to Amel’s question, we decided to head to the ‘Chick Gathering Inn’ that the staff member had introduced us to.
”Just like Ema said, I want to get rid of this heavy travel luggage soon…”
Everyone agreed with Zami’s words.
My backpack felt heavy on my back too.
Fortunately, the inn we were directed to seemed to be just a short walk from the central square, so we all headed towards it.
* * *
”Oh, is that the morning market? There are a lot of stalls out!”
Amel pointed at the central square that came into view ahead.
Yeah, it was definitely a lively sight.
Plus…
”It smells really good…”
”I want to settle at the inn, but… I’m also getting hungry…”
At Zamie’s words, Ema sniffed the air and held her stomach.
”Before we go to the inn, let’s grab a bite to eat.”
”Right!”
Amel agreed with my suggestion.
Looking at the other 2──
”Those 2…”
Amel and I exchanged wry smiles as we watched Zamie and Ema already dashing towards the stalls.
