Chapter 689 Twin Siblings Leo and Lia
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
(Kazumi’s POV)
We left the Great Labyrinth Garrison guild outpost, and the twenty-two of us participating in the “magic training camp” gathered at the base of a massive tree. Fourteen sixth-years, eight fifth-years. The rustle of leaves was pleasantly soothing to the ears as Miss Maria led us toward the Teleportation Circle, which would take us to the Fourth Floor’s “Closed World.” The air was slightly cool, carrying the scent of soil that tickled the nose.
”What… we’re using the Teleportation Circle?”
Jan muttered with a drooping shoulder, disappointment in his voice. The morning sunlight dappled his face, casting mottled shadows.
”Of course. Students who aren’t even adventurers can’t just stroll to the Fourth Floor, can they?”
Rena fired back immediately, her voice echoing through the trees.
”But we’ve been training on our own, plus Hiroya’s practice sessions—we’ve gotten pretty strong,” Jan pressed on, lightly kicking at the fallen leaves. The dry rustle sounded like a tiny protest.
”No chance. Even the recommended level for the First Floor is Rank F, Jan. You’re not an adventurer, let alone battle-tested,” I interjected, exasperated. A gentle breeze stirred my hair, but his stubborn claim made me slightly irritable.
”We’ve got a decent group, though—handpicked from the senior students. Kazumi and Rena are here too. I want to feel the labyrinth’s atmosphere,” Lantz said, siding with Jan. His hand gripped a spear Hiroya had advised him on, the metal of its tip glinting in sunlight. The knuckles of his hand were white from the tight hold.
”Everyone! Please be quiet!”
A sharp clap of hands echoed, drawing our attention. Miss Maria’s gaze swept across each of us, and the chatter fell silent.
”We will now head to the Fourth Floor’s ‘Closed World’ via the Teleportation Circle. Principal Milia will join later due to other obligations, but follow my instructions carefully and act in an orderly manner.”
Miss Maria’s crisp, usual tone tightened the atmosphere. Even Jan fell silent, shoulders slumping. The rustling leaves accentuated the calm like background music.
”The area beyond the Teleportation Circle is considered a dungeon, but there is no immediate danger. However, unforeseen circumstances may arise, so members of the Black Sheep Clan will accompany us.”
Introduced by Miss Maria, the Black Sheep Vice-Captain Carla Königsberg appeared before us with two male members. As they bowed, a light breeze ruffled their cloaks, carrying the faint scent of leather. The men introduced themselves as Philip Fischer and Tobias Klaus, both Fighters, their muscular builds exuding reliability. Carla waved at Rena and me with a small, friendly smile, easing my nerves.
”Now, everyone, gather around me as we head to the Fourth Floor’s ‘Closed World.’”
Miss Maria raised her right hand, and we grouped around her. Footsteps overlapped, mingled with excited breaths.
”Carla, isn’t Mr. Bone coming?”
I asked the woman beside me. She sighed, warm breath brushing my ear.
”He’s not good with children,” she explained.
I chuckled softly, accepting that answer. Soon, the familiar sensation of flight enveloped us—our bodies lightened, the scenery blurred, and our stomachs lifted.

”Whoa! This place is amazing!”
The instant we teleported, Jan’s excitement exploded. Before us stretched a vast underground world. Soft light poured from a sky-like expanse tinted blue, illuminating distant forests and lakes. The air was moist, filled with the fresh scent of soil and grass.
”Really… this is underground?” Lantz murmured, squinting and stretching a hand toward the sky.
”Why is it so big?” Gazura’s voice trembled as his feet shifted nervously.
”…It’s amazing…” Mash whispered, scanning the surreal landscape. A light breeze carried distant birdsong. No wonder the students couldn’t contain their astonishment—we were all struck the first time we arrived here.
”It’s understandable to be amazed, but what you see is not an illusion. Remarkably, you have indeed descended into the underground labyrinth.”
Miss Maria’s calm explanation quieted the murmurs, soothing our excited hearts.
”As we descend, we will reach a village carved into this world. We’ll live there while conducting our magic training starting today.”
Though teleportation might allow direct access to the village, Miss Maria likely wanted us to witness this breathtaking, mysterious landscape. The view below was stunning, the distant lake shimmering in the light.
”Teacher! What’s that door?”
A senior boy pointed toward a small path leading to a massive double door, its metallic bulk seeming to carry its weight in the wind.
”That door leads to the Third Floor. It is dangerous, so do not approach it under any circumstances.”
Miss Maria glared at the student who had asked the question, her expression strict. Caught in that gaze, the student shrugged and replied, “Y-yes…” The air thickened for a moment, but Miss Maria’s severity was understandable.
If anyone even thought about going through that door to the Third Floor, it led straight to the floor boss’s room. Though the system spawned monsters scaled to the intruder’s level, the opponent would undoubtedly be extremely difficult to defeat.
Our adversary had been the humanoid said to be the strongest, the Minotaur. Needless to say, it had been a brutal struggle. Even now, the memory sends shivers down my spine. That roar, the sharp gleam of its horns—it all comes rushing back.
”Watch out for Jan and the others,”
Rena whispered in my ear, and I nodded quietly in agreement. Her breath brushed my ear, tickling lightly.
”Yeah. We should warn them not to overdo it later.”

(Leo’s POV)
”Senpai, you’re going, right?”
I, walking at the back, called out to the back of the person in front of me. The soft dirt path sank slightly with each step. The wind caressed my cheeks, and the surrounding trees whispered among themselves.
”After getting such a harsh warning… thinking about what would happen if we got caught… it’s dangerous.”
The sixth-year who had earlier questioned Miss Maria about the door replied without looking back. I sensed a trace of regret in his voice.
”Scared, huh?”
At my words, the senior exhaled in slight irritation.
”No, not at all. Besides, I’m in magic too. We’re seriously short on melee members.”
This time he turned back, making that excuse. His eyes darted a little.
”You’ve got your brother, though. The school’s top magic swordsman, skilled in both magic and swordsmanship.”
My twin sister, Lia, clung to my left arm as she said this. Her fingers were warm and soft against my skin.
”I know Leo’s strong… but alone, it’s tough…”
The senior stammered slightly.
”It’s fine. I’ve already picked the vanguard to accompany you.”
I glanced at the group moving at the front. Jan and the others looked strong. The wind lifted their hair, and their stride radiated confidence. My senior seemed to notice too, nodding slightly.
”Jan, huh. I hear he’s improved a lot recently.”
”It’s not just Jan. That group recently assigned roles—Lancer, Tank, Thief. A well-balanced team. And—”
While explaining to the senior, I caught Lia’s eye. Her gaze sparkled.
”With the frontliners in place, my Enhancement Magic can really shine.”
She winked at the senior. Flustered, he turned forward again, his cheeks visibly warming.
”Well, Jan would probably take the offer.”
”Yeah, but if Hiroya were here, there wouldn’t be a problem…”
The bespectacled senior walking beside him muttered this. Though he was also joining this adventure, I couldn’t hide my annoyance at the name he spoke. Tsk—the sound rang sharply in my ear.
Hiroya O’Brien—son of Lord Shinji, Baron O’Brian, famed as Raetia’s top swordsman and the first to conquer the Great Labyrinth with his clan, Famière. He should be my age, but I’ve never met him.
Under the guidance of Sir Elberhardt, he had already been active as an adventurer without reaching twelve, granted leave from school. Along with Kazumi Müller and Rena Rosen from the same clan, he had completed even the advanced school curriculum.
(I don’t acknowledge their ability. They only cleared the Great Labyrinth because they happened to have excellent party members.)
I thought fiercely. My chest burned, but this wasn’t jealousy—it was fact.
The clan leader, Liz Weissman, the archer “Bullseye Archer”; Asuka Lombard, “Maiden of the Gale”; Martina Regios, prodigy thief; Dorothy, “Iron-Clawed Beauty”, plus former Rose Hip captain Simona Schmidt—the lineup alone was formidable.
Even if Hiroya, Kazumi, or Rena had little skill, the team remained exceptional.
(They’re overrated.)
Not jealousy. I only trust what I see. The wind rose, the trees rustled, seeming to encourage my resolve.
