”Regarding those three, I would like to have them mobilized for this war.” the Queen said.
”Tania, Laika, and Satsuki…?” I asked.
Just when I thought I had been summoned by Her Majesty for the first time in a while, it turned out three of my shop’s employees were about to be dragged into a war.

She wasn’t just talking; she was surely giving her all just as she said. Unable to either nod or shake my head, I chose to divert the conversation.
”What about… their own intentions?” I asked.
”Of course, after obtaining your permission, I will hear their intentions as well. However, as for Satsuki, she cannot refuse. Satsuki, being a Court Mage, is my pawn. It was reasonable. Court Mages are fundamentally creatures who work for the state with the state’s money. National power fluctuates greatly depending on how many capable mages one holds. For instance, it is a common occurrence in this world for a single genius to elevate a small country to the status of a great power.
Therefore, the King establishes academies, raises them, and keeps the cream of the crop by his side as Court Mages. If they aren’t put to work in times of war like this, there would be no point in spending vast sums of money on their training and employment. That is what it means to serve the Royal Palace.
”And the same goes for adventurers…” the Queen said.
”Yeah, I’ve decided to invoke an Emergency Request⁷. This time, the Canaria Kingdom⁸ is clearly the side being invaded. It’s a condition permitted even within the guild’s solidarity. We’re independent adventurers, but we can’t allow our own hunting grounds to be ravaged.” Ulgate said.
I repeated the words of Mr. Ulgate, the head of the Adventurer’s Guild, to whom Her Majesty had directed the conversation. The Emergency Request is formally known as the ‘Emergency Request to Adventurers by the Guild Master.’
As the name suggests, it is a special request that the Guild Master has the authority to invoke. For example, if a dragon attacks a town or if another country’s army is approaching as it is now, invoking it allows for the semi-forced mobilization of adventurers.
Of course, since adventurers’ only redeeming qualities are their freedom and earnings, they can refuse if they feel like it. However, in that case, a heavy penalty would be imposed. This can also be set relatively freely by the Guild Master’s authority, but…
”What is the penalty…?” I asked.

Even if they tried to handle personal requests without going through the guild, their trust would plummet. There was nothing I could say, but since the conversation had been held out of respect for me, it felt like it was my duty. If I had any talent other than making lewd magic tools, would I have been able to avoid feeling this way?
”Umu, then Ulgate, you may withdraw. Kento, will you stay a little longer?” the Queen asked.
I wanted to ask what else there could possibly be, but there was no point in resisting here. As I nodded, Mr. Ulgate, who was exiting, slapped my back and spoke to me.
”Hey, Kento, don’t let it get to you too much. This just isn’t the kind of talk you can do anything about. Why, don’t worry, ‘Divine Bow Tania’ is a legendary adventurer who has kept protecting this country since its founding, and ‘Mad Dog Laika’ is a top-notch powerhouse recognized by that ‘Divine Bow.’ It’s out of place for an F-rank adventurer like ‘Kento the Collapsed Vagrant’ to be worrying.” Ulgate said.
It was a clumsy way of comforting me, typical of him. Even so, it’s impossible not to worry, but I did remember that they were strong individuals far beyond my reach.

• Ulgate – The head of the Adventurers’ Guild. Using rough words.
• Kento – The owner of the magic tool shop ‘Harvest,’ which discretely sells adult goods. He’s a former overworked, ordinary salaryman from modern Japan who was suddenly transported (isekai’d) to this fantasy world. He has dark hair and an unremarkable appearance, typically wearing a plain, slightly suspicious-looking shop owner’s clothes looks like Kazuma Satou from certain series. He has a minimal amount of magic power, enough to craft his specialty items.
