Chapter 202 An Assignment
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Ah, Kento’s finally here! You’re late! Were you doing that master-disciple comedy routine with Lick-Lick again?” Laika teased.
”Who’s a master and who’s a disciple…?! Any child who says such things deserves a punishment!” I barked back.
As soon as I stepped into the workshop, the adventurer dog-beastman Laika called Nina and me master and disciple while she worked on crushing Pororo Snail¹ shells. I voiced my protest, but she seemed completely unfazed by my anger.
”Mmm, if it’s a nighttime punishment, I’d welcome it with open arms. No matter how you look at it from the outside, you’re master and disciple. You should just acknowledge it already. You think so too, right, Big Sis?”
Laika looked for agreement from Tania, an elven adventurer who had become a master of three taiyaki-press-style Ddo-Buddy² making machines at the same time. While I decided to give Laika that ‘nighttime punishment’ at a later date… Tania opened her mouth, her face becoming quite serious.
”Hmm, I wonder… I’ve taken on many disciples myself, but unlike us elves, the master-disciple bond for humans is a lifelong thing. Kento likely has his own internal reasons for waiting.”
”Is that how it works? Well, even among beastman warriors, people tend to be very picky about their disciples. I’ve heard some won’t even think about taking a pupil from outside their own pack…”
The talk between the two was quite interesting, as it showed the big difference in views between the races. Since elves have such long lives, many likely prefer to fix issues on their own rather than ask for help, while beastmen often act in packs, making sure their training stays inside the group.
It is likely something unique to humans—who have short lives and live in towns or streets while mixing with a lot of people—that training has turned into a formal system. Or maybe it is because many different jobs have grown, allowing their own cultures to thrive.
”Please try harder, Laika-san. My Master is truly mean. He told me that if I call him ‘Master’ again, he’ll send me right back to the Holy City ssu,” Nina said. She had followed close behind me and started work on the Ddo-Buddy line next to Tania ssu.
She is already ignoring my words… Since she will only get more stubborn if I call her out, I will not push the point any more today.
”Sorry, Lick-Lick. I don’t think I can convince him. Besides that—let’s see—if you let him touch a boob or two, he might actually give in and admit you are his student surprisingly easily,” Laika suggested with a grin.
”Hey, what exactly do you think I am…?” I muttered.
”Eh? A Breast Alien? Ah, sometimes you turn into an Ass Alien too,” Laika replied.
The fact that I could not completely deny her claim was the most painful part. In fact, I found my eyes stuck on Laika as she bravely squeezed and pushed up her small breasts to show them off as much as she could…
Anyway, my work remained the same: quality checks. Of course, the three sisters—Sister Tetra, Metra, and Netra—along with Mother Shireen were each busy making Ddo Pleasure-Aid Fluid³ or building vibration parts. However, those four seemed to be in their own world, their talk growing around the topic of their ‘training.’
”A honey trap, huh… I certainly know I’m a honey trap agent sent by the Church, but I think that if I actually did that, he would be even less likely to see me as a disciple ssu,” Nina said.
”That is a good choice, but are you really going to call yourself a honey trap agent out loud…?” I asked, shocked.
”Well, I mean, why else would they go to the trouble of sending a young woman like me? I certainly asked for the job, but it seems even more skilled and veteran Sacred Artificer⁴ were trying to come too ssu.”
”Veteran and skilled…?”
”To put it simply, an old man ssu.”
In other words, if I were to kick her out of the shop, there was a real chance that some random middle-aged man would be sent instead… That idea, to be honest, would really kill my motivation to work…
It is annoying to feel thankful, but the Church’s plan was clearly right. It is truly frustrating how they seem to see the truth of every situation!
”Taking that into account, don’t you think it’s about time you let me help with new product designs? The leaders at the Holy City seem to want great results, and if I don’t write at least one paper, I might be forced to go back ssu…”
Right away, Nina gave me a suggestive look from the side, silently asking: ‘Which do you want: a middle-aged man being sent, or taking me as your student?’ However, I am not a man who gives in to such looks.
”Fine. Whether it is writing a paper or making a new product, you can do what you want.”
”Does that mean…!” Nina gasped.
”Of course, I will not be involved. If you try to use my name, I will complain using the right steps.”
”Then there’s no point ssu!” Nina cried out, lifting a finished Ddo-Buddy in both hands to show how unhappy she was ssu.
Hm, a rather interesting sight. I will at least give her points for how she willingly puts herself in a place to be teased by me.
”Nina, in short, Kento is saying this: if you truly want to be a student, try to make a tool you thought of yourself. Those without new ideas will never be great. You must not rely on a master; instead, you must show your own worth,” Tania explained.
”Tania-san… You say that, but Master’s magic tools aren’t the kind of things you can just copy because you want to ssu…” Nina replied sadly.
Tania gave more support right away, though her words didn’t seem to reach Nina. To be honest, it doesn’t matter to me if she makes a new product or not, but I guess I can give a little advice. No, it really doesn’t matter, got it? Really! It is not like I am rooting for her or anything like that!
”Don’t think too hard about it. In my case, I am just thinking about how to make the customers feel good. In your case, you should just focus on how you would make yourself feel good.”
”How I make myself feel good… Surely, that is a new view, the total opposite of the Church, which only thinks about how to hold back ssu…” Nina thought.
”For example, these Anl pearls, the Fourteen-Star Ans Beads⁵—what if each bead started to shake like the Tremble-Ddo-Buddy⁶?”
”Oh my! Does such a wonderful product really exist?!”
As I explained while holding up the Fourteen-Star Ans Beads I was checking, Mother Shireen, who was supposed to be talking about ‘training’ with the sisters, jumped in. It seemed that for her, since she has a weakness for Anl-type items, this was a very exciting topic.
”No, it is just an idea. I am thinking about making such a product one day, but the technical part is very hard right now…”
”Oh, is that so… What a shame. But I will look forward to the day you make it happen!”
Mother Shireen left after saying her piece. Hmm, it is definitely a hard goal to reach, but there is no doubt it would be a hit. Product work is useless if you don’t have customers who want to buy.
Of course, in my case, by using the knowledge from my old world, I can use ideas that don’t exist in this one. But that by itself is not enough.
Actually, I had a lot of trouble when I first started making adult magic tools. Especially when I started making drugs to help with mood, the women I first thought would be my customers didn’t like the products, so I had to try many things.
Even our shop’s best item, the ‘Ddo-Buddy,’ didn’t sell well at first. So I came up with the idea of selling them together with oils and mood drugs.
I had customers who came for the drugs buy them as a set. Once the shop’s name started to grow, those early troubles went away, but the joy of that first sale is still a great memory…
After that, I came up with many ideas and got tips from customers and Lily. As a result, many different ‘Ddo-Buddies’—like the ‘Drill Ddo-Buddy’ and the ‘Bumpy Ddo-Buddy’—were created.
”Oh! I got it! What if the ‘bumps’ on the Bumpy Ddo-Buddy could grow and shrink?!”
”Even if you ask me… That sounds kind of gross, like a bug…?” Laika made a face.
”Hmm, it sounds interesting in theory. But I would need to see a real one…” Tania said.
Laika and Tania each gave their thoughts. That’s right; even when it was just Lily and me, we used to struggle with ideas like this, talking back and forth on what would work.
Lately, I have mostly made things that I know will sell, but maybe it is good to make something weird now and then… Once the child is born… things might get even busier, but I can still keep my mind moving…
”Um, I hate to stop you while you are all so happy, but what about me ssu…” Nina cut in.
”Well, anyway, the point is that nothing starts until you make something and bring it here. Whether it’s based on things you studied back at the Holy City or anything else, just give it a try.”
”Ehhh ssu…”
And so, Nina was given the task I had set. Specifically, the design challenge for a ‘product that makes her feel good’!
Hehehe, I can’t wait to see what she finally brings in and exactly how she decides to show it off…!

Summary:
Kento arrives at the workshop and faces teasing from Laika about his pseudo-mentorship of Nina. Desperate to stay and avoid a replacement by a male artificer, Nina asks for Kento’s official recognition. Kento sets a creative challenge for Nina to develop an original adult magic tool based on her own pleasure. The workshop team engages in a nostalgic brainstorming session, leaving Kento eager for Nina’s upcoming proposal.”
—
Character Insight:
Kento’s leadership style is a mix of quality control and teasing; he uses the master-disciple line to keep Nina working while enjoying the lighthearted shop mood. Nina, though clumsy, shows she knows the Church’s political moves, using her ‘honey trap’ label to negotiate. Tania’s view shows the weight of human training compared to elven self-reliance, adding depth to Kento’s choice to wait.”
—
Behind the Scene:
The ‘Ddo-Buddy’ (a play on ‘Dobadi’) is the main brand of adult toys in this series. The mention of ‘caterpillar’ or ‘bug’ movements highlights the strange trial-and-error designs common in the early days of Kento’s shop lore.”

T/L:
Notes:
• Kento – The owner of the magic tool shop ‘Harvest,’ which discretely sells adult goods. He’s a former overworked, ordinary salaryman from modern Japan who was suddenly transported (isekai’d) to this fantasy world. He has dark hair and an unremarkable appearance, typically wearing a plain, slightly suspicious-looking shop owner’s clothes looks like Kazuma Satou from certain series. He has a minimal amount of magic power, enough to craft his specialty items.
• Laika – The beastwoman dog.
• Tania – An Elf adventurer who, despite her race’s reputation for low sex drive, is secretly quite passionate. She initially seemed ‘wasted’ (emotionally dry) to her friend Raika, but was easily introduced to the pleasure-items sold at ‘Harvest.’ She is easily embarrassed and attempts to maintain a dignified facade, despite her recent, frequent purchases. She wears practical but light armor over a simple cloth tunic and short pants, highlighting her grace and agility. Her primary relationship is one of friendly senior-junior with Raika.
• Shireen – A high-ranking nun at the convent who tends to modify product specifications on a whim.
• Metra – One of the triplets. Thick navy hair covering her eyes. Beautiful facial features.
• Netra – One of the triplets. Thick navy hair covering her eyes. Beautiful facial features. Shows interest in Kento.
• Tetra – One of the triplets. Thick navy hair covering her eyes. Beautiful facial features.
• Lily – the sl*ve and primary experiment subject for the magic shop, ‘Harvest.’ She has striking pink hair, Blue eyes, medium breasts, which the Protagonist associates with being ‘wanton’. She has a working knowledge of magic, which she kept hidden from the slave trader.
