Chapter 455 The Second Child
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Good lord, it’s a disaster! A total disaster!”
The ones causing the ruckus were the “Elven reinforcements.” Having only arrived to offer prayers for a safe delivery, they clearly hadn’t expected to be thrust into the middle of the actual labor. Their faces were a textbook shade of pale.
”W-w-w-what do we do!? What do we need!?”
”Nuu! That’s it! Don’t we need to weave another Crown of Forest Blessing¹!?”
”You old fool! We need birth-water first! Hot water! We have to boil some water…!”
”Calm down, everyone. Don’t fret so much; it shouldn’t be much different from a human birth… I hope.”
The one calming them down was none other than my love-elf Tania, who was actually the one on the verge of giving birth. The Elven reinforcements began to regain their sanity, muttering things like, “O-oh, right. I’ve actually helped deliver a human child before!”
Me? I’d long since started preparing the delivery room. It was only natural. Our family had studied hard for this day, setting the procedures and divvying up the roles.
The moment Tania went into labor, my love-slave Lily entrusted our darling daughter Momo to the love-dog Laika and bolted out of the D**do-Buddy Mansion². Naturally, she went to fetch Granny Miranda-my master of magic medicine and an experienced midwife.
Since the members of our household changed depending on who was around, everyone knew the drill. First, the fastest person on hand would fetch Granny; those who couldn’t move as fast looked after Momo. This time, Lily was the runner, and Laika was the sitter.
Next, whoever was free prepped the room. That was my job. We’d set aside a dedicated room next to the parlor specifically for this when the D**do-Buddy Mansion was built. “Prepping” mostly meant making sure the delivery chair was ready, along with clean linens and basins for the baby’s first bath.
”Hey, you’re Elves! You don’t need to boil water manually,” I shouted. “Someone use magic to get it hot! And you men! Do you seriously intend to watch my wife give birth? You’re in the way-get out!”
”””Y-yes, sir!””” they cried in unison.
Since this was an emergency, I hoped they’d forgive my bluntness. Once I’d kicked the men out, I asked the women for help. We set to work removing ritual jewelry, washing up, and getting the water ready.
”Tania, you okay? Did your water break?”
”Yes, it went splash,” she replied. “Our little one seems to be in quite a hurry.”
”Alright, can you stand? Let’s get you to the delivery room.”
”Heh, such a reliable husband… Quite a change from how you were with Lady Lily. Right, Laika?”
”Ahaha! Kento, you panicked so hard back then you charged into the room covered in dust!”
Tania still had enough composure to crack jokes, but sweat was beading on her forehead. She seemed to be in pain whenever she exerted herself; she wouldn’t be able to stand until things settled for a moment. And besides…
”Out it comes. Out it comes. Out, out it comes!”
The issue was Momo, currently sitting on Laika’s lap. It was as if she were acting as a spokesperson for the baby inside; she’d been repeating those words for a while now. If the baby really was that close, I’d honestly have preferred if they waited for Granny to get here.
”Momo, can you tell the baby to ‘wait just a little bit longer’?”
”Oooh?”
”Let’s see… ‘Wait.’ ‘Wa-it.’”
”Wa-chee? Wa… Wa-it! Wa-chee! Wa-it!”
Momo did her best to mimic me. Tilting her head, she repeated the words and reached her hand toward Tania’s belly. Then, wouldn’t you know it? The expression of pain on Tania’s face softened just a fraction, and she was finally able to catch her breath.
”…Did it actually work?”
”…It certainly seems so,” Tania whispered.
”Momo is amazing, isn’t she?” Laika added with a smile.
Tania and I were floored; Laika was just her usual carefree self. Was Momo the amazing one, or the baby inside? Regardless, taking advantage of the lull, we moved Tania to the delivery room.
Supporting her body, I was struck again by how she’d managed to carry such a large belly with such a slender frame. Once we moved, I helped her out of her undergarments and wiped away the sweat. I’d keep taking care of her until Granny Miranda arrived.
The Elven women had been pale at first, but they found their nerve while helping with the prep. Soon they were sharing stories like, “Come to think of it, my grandmother said…” regarding Elven births.
Apparently, because Elven babies are so rare, almost every Elf panics when a birth actually happens. They grow up being told all sorts of advice-take long breaths, don’t tense up, press on the lower back. In short, it was no different from a human birth.
While we were all calming our nerves, Granny Miranda finally arrived at the mansion, slung over Lily’s shoulder.
Yes, that’s not a typo. Granny Miranda was literally carried in like a sack of potatoes. According to Lily, “It was faster this way.” Maybe she was panicking a bit in her own right.
”Good grief, you’re as rough as ever with your elders…”
”Sorry, Granny. We’re counting on you again.”
”Yes, yes, I know. Well, I expect this one will just pop right out too.”
I had a feeling she was right. Especially with the baby seemingly announcing its own arrival through Momo. Back when Lily gave birth, it had been a “pop-pop-pop” kind of delivery. (Note: The correlation between a smooth delivery and the name of this mansion remains scientifically unverified.)
”Now then, let’s see what we’ve got…”
After washing up, Granny placed a hand on Tania’s belly. Since magic exists in this world, she was likely using it to check the baby’s status.
”Hmm? This is a bit…”
”I-is something wrong!?”
”No, it’s just… it feels like the little one is working hard not to fall out. It looks like they’ll be ready the moment you push. Alright, Mama, give me some strength along with the next contraction!”
”A-ah…!”
Tania followed Granny’s lead. The labor pains returned with a vengeance, and sweat popped out on her forehead. But unlike Lily’s birth, the baby didn’t come out immediately.
”Fuuuuuh…! Fuuuuuu…!”
”Hmm? Well, aren’t you a stubborn one… You really should have been out by now.”
Granny muttered, and it clicked. I stopped wiping Tania’s sweat and dashed to the parlor. Naturally, I had business with my darling daughter, Momo. When I returned carrying her, Granny gave me a skeptical look.
”What are you doing at a time like this…?”
”I just want to try something. Hey, Momo? Can you tell the baby ‘it’s okay now’?”
”O-kay now?”
”That’s it. ‘It’s okay now’…”
”O-kay, now? It’s okay now! It’s okay!”
Right then, Tania gasped as the pain intensified. Granny whipped her head back toward the chair and shouted, “The head’s out!”
Then, almost instantly…
”Waaaaah! Waaaaah!”
A heavy silence fell over the room.
”…It’s a beautiful baby boy,” Granny whispered.
In the midst of that silence, my son let out his first vigorous cry. He had hair the same vibrant forest-green as Tania’s, and-likely from the birth-long ears that were currently plastered flat against his cheeks.
”Tania, he’s here! Thank you… you did so well!”
”Fuu… fuu… Yeah… I did. Though… did I really do that much?”
Because it happened so fast, Tania and the Elven reinforcements were just dazed. But I was purely happy, and I told Tania how grateful I was. It was exactly like how it had been with Lily.
Today had been one mystery after another. I had no idea why Momo’s words seemed to reach the womb, but who cares? He was born safe and sound.
”Momo, look! Your little brother is here! You’re a big sister now!”
”Brudder?”
”Yeah. You’re going to be best friends, okay?”
”Aye-aye!”
Momo stared at her newborn brother with wide, curious eyes and gave a perfectly adorable, energetic reply.

TL Notes:
Notes:
• Tania – An Elf adventurer who, despite her race’s reputation for low sex drive, is secretly quite passionate. She initially seemed ‘wasted’ (emotionally dry) to her friend Raika, but was easily introduced to the pleasure-items sold at ‘Harvest.’ She is easily embarrassed and attempts to maintain a dignified facade, despite her recent, frequent purchases. She wears practical but light armor over a simple cloth tunic and short pants, highlighting her grace and agility. Her primary relationship is one of friendly senior-junior with Raika.
• Miranda – An elderly woman known as Granny Miranda. Kento’s master of magic medicine and an experienced midwife. Uses magic to monitor the status of babies in the womb.
• Laika – The beastwoman dog.
• Lily – the sl*ve and primary experiment subject for the magic shop, ‘Harvest.’ She has striking pink hair, Blue eyes, medium breasts, which the Protagonist associates with being ‘wanton’. She has a working knowledge of magic, which she kept hidden from the slave trader.
• Momo – The newborn daughter of Kento and Lily. She has pink hair and her father’s ear and eyebrow shapes.
• Kento – Lord Harvest—the unassuming owner of the Harvest magic tool shop (with a discreet adult goods side). An isekai’d Japanese salaryman resembling Kazuma Satou, with dark hair and basic magic for crafting. Recently triumphed over a Great Dragon; now juggles his harem, tinkering, and ties to Amelia and the Queen at Ddo-Buddy Manor.
