Chapter 532 Coming from the South (①)

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

It had been several weeks since my talk with the Archbishop.

Today was finally the day to welcome the “Messenger of That Person” who had traveled all the way from the Southern Continent¹.

I’d worried that the wait would be grueling, but the time passed in a heartbeat.

I spent my days checking in on my pregnant wives, handling my usual work at the shop—which included a few “experiments” with the ladies—and getting thoroughly thrashed while training for my eventual deathmatch with Mother Marian.

Looking at it that way, it sounds like I’ve done nothing but dally with women, but I actually did prepare, okay?

Well, if you count “stocking up the inventory” as preparation.

Since I had no idea what the other party actually wanted, there wasn’t much else I could do.

”How do I look? Do I look sufficiently shady?”

”…I’m not sure what you mean by ‘sufficiently,’ but you certainly look like a suspicious mage and nothing else,” said Cecile.

The palace does, in fact, have a proper audience chamber.

Queen Cecile gave me a look I couldn’t quite describe as I stood there in my best set of mage robes.

 Atmosphere is everything, after all.

If a guest is coming from all the way across the sea, I have to greet them properly—as the sketchy owner of a magic circuit shop.

For the record, since this “Messenger” is technically being treated as a state guest, Her Majesty was also dressed in a gown far more luxurious and regal than usual, looking every bit the sovereign.

Don’t worry, I already showered her with plenty of compliments, so she’s in a good mood.

The team on the Kingdom of Canaria’s side consisted of Queen Cecile, myself, Prime Minister Dan, and Marquis Samoro.

Since this was going to be a talk about Adult Magic Circuits², Roland-dono sat this one out.

Joining us were two merchants from the maritime nation of Sylvaol: Fati from the Uminari Guild, and Rafuoro from the Yuunari Guild.

”It’s almost time. Fati, Rafuoro—is there anything I should keep in mind?” I asked.

”No, not particularly. Just don’t treat them like they’re beneath you just because they’re from a different continent… but I don’t suppose I have to worry about that with you, do I?” said Fati.

Fati was the first to chime in.

I see. I guess from her perspective, that would be a legitimate concern.

But as she said, as far as I’m concerned, I have nothing but gratitude for a customer who’d travel to a whole different continent just for my products.

I’d never dream of looking down on them.

”I feel the same way, Master Kento. Though, I certainly hope you can turn this into a major deal…” said Rafuoro.

Rafuoro added his thoughts on the business side.

There’s no telling which way the wind will blow, but I’m also hoping for a profitable outcome.

Ideally, this “That Person” individual knows their way around commerce and can act as a bridgehead for us in the Southern Continent.

But even if she’s just a dedicated hobbyist, she’s still a valued customer.

I’ll have to make sure she’s satisfied so she can contribute to our shop’s long-standing tradition of word-of-mouth marketing.

”Oh, and one more thing. Don’t be surprised when the ‘Messenger’ walks in. People from the Southern Continent are—”

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to hear the rest of Fati’s advice.

Before she could finish, a guard announced the guests’ arrival.

Everyone in the room straightened their posture and moved into their positions.

Queen Cecile sat upon her throne, with the Prime Minister and me flanking her.

Fati and the others stood against the wall alongside our guards and civil officials.

I was still a bit curious about what Fati was going to say—it sounded a lot like the Archbishop’s warning the other day—but there was no time left for talk.

I took one deep breath and waited for them to enter. And then…

 ”””……”””

Silence fell over the audience chamber.

Three people, a mix of men and women, were led in by the guards.

However, it was obvious at a single glance who the “Messenger” was.

Because her skin was a beautiful, lustrous black, polished like fine porcelain.

Fragments of my old world flashed through my mind, and a hundred different thoughts surfaced.

But what I felt wasn’t “shock.” It was “understanding.”

 (I see. That makes sense.)

It seemed the Archbishop had been itching to see me surprised, but sorry, old man—it’s not happening.

The palace guards and officials, however, weren’t taking it as well.

This was likely the first time they’d ever seen—or perhaps even heard of—a human with black skin.

 Their faces were visibly tense.

On the other hand, Queen Cecile and the Prime Minister seemed to have anticipated this; their reactions were noticeably more subdued than the rest.

Well, I couldn’t see their faces from where I was standing, so I’m just guessing based on the vibe.

”I am Schueri, a retainer of the Kingdom of Sylvaol. It is a great honor to be granted an audience with Your Majesty, the Wise Queen, and I am deeply pleased to introduce our country’s cherished guest today,” said Schueri.

The first to speak among the three kneeling figures was an older woman who appeared to be the lead diplomat.

I found it a bit unusual, but her slender, refined movements were perfectly composed.

They might have thought a woman would be a better fit for dealing with the Messenger and the Queen, but she struck me more as someone who earned her spot through sheer competence.

Incidentally, her skin was white—not much different from the people of our kingdom.

”And I am Mamache, a general of Sylvaol,” said Mamache.

The next to speak was a man who was clearly a warrior, the type who looked like he belonged in heavy plate armor.

The formal clothes he was wearing were stretched to the limit, looking like the fabric across his back was about to split.

He clearly wasn’t used to dressing up, and he looked miserable for it.

His skin was a deep bronze.

While the shades varied, it was roughly the same as Fati or Rafuoro’s.

This was likely the common skin tone in Sylvaol.

”Very well. You have done well to come. Raise your heads. As the sovereign of the Kingdom of Canaria, I thank you for visiting from our ally, Sylvaol, and for bringing a new friend to our shores,” said Cecile.

Queen Cecile spoke, seemingly satisfied with the envoys’ conduct.

It’s only natural to welcome guests from a friendly nation, but the last delegation had been a bit of a letdown…

I could tell she was genuinely pleased to be hosting people of such caliber this time.

”…Your Majesty is too kind,” said Schueri.

Schueri seemed to pick up on the Queen’s positive mood.

She looked a little apologetic, speaking in a careful tone as she bowed her head once more.

It seemed the previous envoys hadn’t been what Sylvaol—or at least Schueri—intended.

(If I were to translate their true feelings, it would be something like: “We really wanted to send someone more competent last time, but things were so busy back home we just couldn’t… Our future relationship with you kind of hinges on how this guest is treated, so…”)

And the Queen was exactly the kind of person who could pick up on those unspoken circumstances.

She gave a magnanimous nod, showing she didn’t mind, and nudged the conversation forward.

”And I take it the individual behind you is our guest? I have heard she has traveled all the way from the Southern Continent. Our kingdom welcomes her. Might we have an introduction?” asked Cecile.

”Yes, of course. She is a guest from the South. For various reasons, I cannot disclose the details of her identity, but she comes as the ‘Messenger of That Person.’ She wishes most sincerely to forge a bond of friendship with your nation,” said Schueri.

That was a whole lot of words to say absolutely nothing, but I got the point: they wanted to be friends.

I’d hoped that meeting her in person would provide some answers, but…

Well, now that she’d been introduced, the woman with the black skin stood up.

We were in the presence of royalty, but since she was being welcomed as a guest, it wasn’t a breach of etiquette.

She was tall and slender, with lustrous black hair, supple muscles, sharp eyes, and that striking black skin.

The more I looked, the more the differences between her and the people of this country stood out—but she was so beautiful that those details didn’t even matter.

”My name is Nada. Two things, I must apologize for my rudeness. One: I cannot reveal my station. Two: I am not used to the words of this place. I will be a rough-spoken Messenger. But, I swear my respect for you is real,” said Nada.

She introduced herself and led with an apology.

I see—so the Southern Continent has a different language?

It sounds obvious when I think about it, but since I’ve never had a single problem communicating since I arrived in this world, it felt a little strange.

Actually, I should probably be more surprised that I can understand everyone else…

In any case, Queen Cecile accepted Nada’s apology.

She’s not the type to get hung up on someone’s grammar.

The substance of the conversation was much more important.

 What exactly did Nada want?

She stood tall, puffed out her chest, and declared:

 ”Sell me ‘Dildo-Buddy’³.”

It was a remarkably concise and easy-to-understand request.
