Chapter 569 The Banquet of “Ddo-Buddy” ①
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
With that, the all-automatic “Nip-Clit-Sucker” was done. I sent it to the Southern Continent with a letter. Actually, I already sent it — the moment the last rivet clicked into place, I sealed the crate and shipped it off. No sense letting good work gather dust.
I had a hard time with the Southern Continent language, but I only picked the simplest words with clear meanings, so it should be fine. I hope.
Anyway, from what I hear, Meryamisha-dono isn’t the difficult type, and with Nada-san there, it shouldn’t be a problem. Just in case, I sent Nada-san a letter in Northern Continent language with the same text. You can never be too careful with cross-continent correspondence.
Now then, there’s not much left for me to do. If I could, I’d like to send another one or two “Small Ddo-Buddy Cannons,” but that’s definitely out of the question now. Even that one I gave to Nada-san could cause a big problem if the Northern Coalmine Kingdom — who we’re helping with technology — found out. Even if it doesn’t look like much, that thing is basically a walking bundle of state secrets.
So here I am — a walking bundle of nerves disguised as a researcher. What am I doing these days? I’ve been going to the Court Mages’ lab, helping with research on a new material: rubber.
Turns out I’m terrible at waiting. And right now, that’s exactly what’s happening — waiting. Between the Southern Continent situation, the monster breeding, and the birth of my beloved Ancient Elf, Carley, I’ve done everything I can. Every variable has been set. Every piece has moved. Now the board just sits there, and I hate it.
But just sitting around worrying isn’t good for my mind. So I put my energy into completely unrelated work. You could call it running away, but thanks to that, my peace of mind is fine, and hanging around the royal palace is convenient for all sorts of reasons. For example —
”Lord Harvest, Your Majesty the Queen is asking for you.” A royal attendant said, bowing deeply.
”Understood. I’ll be there right away.” I replied in a crisp, standard tone.
See what I mean? Whether it’s about the “studies” under the King’s younger brother, Roland-dono, or something else, I get called in like this from time to time. Rather than coming to the palace every time, it’s easier for Her Majesty — and for me, if I’m already here. I’d rather be in the lab, but having the queen summon me every other day does keep my attendance rate looking respectable.
My attendance rate is basically the same as a regular official or court noble now. Your Majesty the Queen probably thinks she’s cornered me and is feeling smug, but it’s too late to complain now. I left my research partners in the Court Mages’ team in charge and headed toward Her Majesty’s office.
But when I arrived —
”Excuse me… Wait, it’s quite a crowd today, isn’t it?” I asked, looking at the gathered group. My stomach tightened. A crowd like this meant one thing: trouble.
”Indeed. The situation is what it is.” The Queen said with heavy, noble gravity.
Waiting there were Your Majesty the Queen, our country’s Prime Minister Dan Samoro, the “Holy Figure” Loire-Rose, and Cardinal Mork. Plus, Archbishop Trantestar and Mother Marian — a power lineup that could topple a kingdom.
The King’s brother, Roland-dono, who has completely made himself the master of this room lately, and his fiancée, Lady Unia Greter, were missing. Instead, Church members filled their seats. When you see the clergy gathered instead of the usual political crowd, you can guess exactly what kind of conversation is coming. Down I sat.
”…This is about the Succubi coming in, right?” I pressed, getting straight to the point. No use dancing around it.
”You’re quick on the uptake. Let me get straight to the point: Succubi have been confirmed in the Wielope Empire and the small nations south of the Empire.” The Queen declared, her voice cold and analytical.
”…!”
I lost my voice at the blunt statement of the current situation. The words hit me like a physical blow. It seems things have gone much further than I imagined — far, far further.
My mind raced, connecting dots. In the Northern Continent, there are several countries that trade with the Southern Continent. At the top is the Maritime Nation of Sylvaol to the southwest. My shop’s dealings with Meryamisha-dono also go through them, so that goes without saying. As for our allies, the Ferguson Kingdom to the west also has slight ties to the Southern Continent. Sylvaol is the big one, and it’s not as active as trade with the Western Island Nations, but there’s still a chance of Succubi invading. Then there are the countries east of the Wielope Empire — to name names: the Ivory Kingdom, which the Empire pressured for many years, also has a harbor town. Also, I heard the Munnaisee Kingdom at the eastern tip trades with a Southern Continent nation other than the Aurumcame Governor State, though that has nothing to do with this, and I’m not very familiar with it anyway.
But what surprised me — what truly made my blood run cold — was hearing that Succubi appeared around the Wielope Empire, which shares almost no borders with any of these countries. Wielope is an inland nation sunk deep in the center of the continent. Just where did they sneak in from?
”…The Ivory Kingdom, is it?” I guessed, my mind racing.
If I put the clues together, the chance is high. They’re the only ones sharing a border with Wielope, and they have the reason — to strike at Wielope while it looks like it’s losing steam after pulling its military from the small nations under our country’s treaty.
”Calm down, Lord Harvest. That’s not necessarily the case… or rather, there’s a high chance it’s not. Of course, it’s not good to make assumptions.” The Queen commanded with a firm, silencing hand.
…Certainly, I was getting ahead of myself. My heart was pounding, my thoughts spiraling. Since Carley is in Wielope, I got a little hot-headed. More than a little. I took a breath and forced myself to slow down.
”Archbishop Trantestar, could you explain in detail?” The Queen ordered.1
”Yes, of course.” The Archbishop smirked, his tone dripping with practiced, oily charm.
The one who nodded at Her Majesty’s instruction was the usual smirking Archbishop. Much as I hate to admit it, seeing him as his usual self puts my heart at ease. At least one thing in this room hasn’t gone sideways. …Come to think of it, he had been on a business trip to the Holy City and the east a while ago. He must still be the center of communication with those parts.
”First, the route of the influx is still under investigation, and we don’t know the details. However, because the places where the Succubi appeared are relatively far south, we suspect they likely came through a harbor town south of the Holy City. The Church doesn’t publicly allow trade with the Southern Continent, but there are ports that secretly send out ships, after all.” The Archbishop drawled.
The Archbishop says this with his usual smirk. I see — if it were the Church’s best days, maybe they’d have stamped that out centuries ago, but with their weakened influence now, they probably can’t crack down on that area anymore. Even in past stories I’ve heard, he acted like it wasn’t strictly enforced. A quiet compromise that’s finally caught up with us.
But if it’s come to this, it proves that the policies the Church of Demon-Subjugation had been following were not wrong. If it were just a few hundred years ago, they could have stopped a situation like this before it happened — before a single Succubus set foot on our continent.
Loire-Rose, the current head of the Church who failed to inherit the teachings of the ancients, looks a bit uncomfortable. The Archbishop, on the other hand, is still smirking and doesn’t seem to care at all. One man burdened by the weight of the past, another who’s already made his peace with the present.
”However, if that’s the case, it’s worrying that there’s no damage around the Holy City… Or is it that the reports haven’t come in yet?” I asked, pointing out the hole in his logic. If the Succubi came from the south, the Holy City should have been ground zero.
”Ah, that possibility is high. This time, we got the report directly from the Church in Wielope, so we haven’t heard from the Holy City or, for that matter, the Ivory Kingdom. But about the Holy City, I don’t think there’s a problem.” The Archbishop replied with easy arrogance. The same infuriating confidence he always carried. It set my teeth on edge.
”Is that so…? Uh, I don’t want to say too much, but you aren’t going to say something like, ‘by the power of God,’ right?” I asked, cringing slightly at the thought — at how ridiculous it sounded even to say it aloud.
I couldn’t help but ask the confident Archbishop that. Of course, in this world, there really is such a thing as “Holy Arts,” and I know that users of those arts are gathered in the Holy City. But even so, as someone who knows the previous world — a world where God was a concept, not a firepower — I’m hesitant to leave real-world problems up to divine intervention. In contrast, the Archbishop opens his mouth with absolute certainty.
”In a sense, it is indeed ‘the power of God.’” The Archbishop chuckled, enjoying my frustration. He was savoring this.
”Huh?” I blurted out, baffled — absolutely lost.
The Archbishop says yes to the very words I said as a joke. Could such a thing actually happen? While I’m tilting my head in confusion, Your Majesty the Queen cuts in, “The main explanation isn’t finished yet.”
The Archbishop’s smirk only deepens. Yeah, am I allowed to punch him once yet? I feel a sense of malice like a “prank,” but I have no choice but to listen. I urge the Archbishop to continue, grinding my teeth.
”…So, what are you hiding?” I demanded, losing my patience. The smugness in the room was suffocating.
”Hehehe, well, no need to be so impatient. Just now, Her Majesty said ‘Succubi appeared,’ but she didn’t say ‘damage happened.’” The Archbishop teased, drawing out every syllable like a cat playing with its food.
”…Were you able to defeat them?” I asked, hope rising against my better judgment. A crack of light in the dark.
At my question, the Archbishop smirks so much I wonder if his mouth is going to split. Yeah, I’ve decided. Someday, I will definitely land a fist on his smirking face. That’s what I was thinking — but then he spoke.
”Exactly. They were all small villages that were attacked, but… they managed to push them back. Yes, by the power of your ‘Ddo-Buddy’!” The Archbishop crowed, his grin widening triumphantly.
”…Yes?” I echoed, my voice completely hollow. The word hung in the air like soap bubble, shimmering and utterly unreal.
To the words that followed, all I could do was respond with an empty voice. My invention. My Ddo-Buddy. Pushing back Succubi. The world had just turned upside down — and the Archbishop was laughing.

Summary:
Haruto completes his “Nip-Clit-Sucker” project and dispatches it to the Southern Continent, seeking refuge in palace research to escape his anxiety. He is abruptly summoned to an emergency meeting with the Queen and Church leadership regarding the emergence of Succubi in the Wielope Empire. The Archbishop shocks Haruto by revealing that his own “Ddo-Buddy” invention was responsible for repelling the demonic incursions.
