Chapter 586 Childbirth Season ①

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Before long, both my beloved receptionist, Marm, and my beloved cat, Suu, had safely conceived my children. To think I’d managed to get both of them pregnant at the same time… Seeing Marm—who was completely out of my league back in my adventurer days—now cradling her belly with such a happy look on her face? Honestly, it gets me right here.

By the way, all my old adventurer buddies were going on about “Wow, Marm of all people…” with this deep, nostalgic look on their faces. Most of the crowd I ran with were already married and a bit older. They’d known her since she was a rookie, so it was almost like they were looking out for her like proud fathers.

Which is why I got slapped on the back a million times with a “You better not make her cry, you hear me!” Even the Guild Chief joined in—with terrifying enthusiasm. The bruises hurt a hundred times more than when Marm or Suu scratch my back, but I took it all without complaint.

The Beast-person Association gave me a similar beating about Suu. But with them, they said things like “We thought she was never going to get married, so this is a relief,” all smiles.

In particular, Chromans—the president of the Higuma Merchant Guild where Suu works—told me with a pleased squint, “I’m so glad she found such a good match!” Apparently Suu had been turning down every arranged meeting they’d set up for her, and the president had been worried sick.

When I asked Suu herself what it was that had made her so fond of me, she said calmly, “I suppose it’s your scent, and how good you are at petting me.” Naturally, I spoiled her like the cat she was.

Anyway, this year’s mating season is off to a smooth start. Next up are the Coalmine mage Kushe and my sister-in-law Flearis—but before we get there, childbirth season is upon us. I was just sprawled out in the “D**do-Buddy Palace” as usual, when—

Satsuki asked, “Hmm, if we’re going in order, Lily was first, right?”

Lily replied, “Perhaps? I think we were all set around the same time, but Satsuki-sama might be slightly earlier.”

Amelia mused, “Timing would line up with when we started making products for the Wielope Empire… I suppose that makes sense? But at this point, belly sizes are pretty much within the margin of error anyway. Amelia’s gotten huge too, but…”

Lily added, “I took quite a long time to show. Miranda-san told me to expect one or two more months.”

On my right sat my beloved Love Mage Satsuki, on my left my love-slave Lily, and directly ahead my beloved “Saint” Sister Amelia. With their three big swollen bellies lined up on the rug spread across the floor, it was like perfect paradise—every man’s dream. Quite a sight.

Last year, there were fewer people in this scene. Well, no—I have to call myself out on that one: “What do you mean, ‘only three is fewer’?” But by our household standards, it was indeed on the smaller side.

Our beloved Ancient Elf Carley would normally be here too, but she’s currently at the Imperial Palace in the Wielope Empire. I worry about her there, but for now, I need to focus on Lily and Satsuki, whose due dates are fast approaching.

”Momo was such a late bloomer—wonder what this one will be like?” I said.

Momo toddled over, her voice a garbled mess of toddler pronunciation: “Mochama was a ‘wate bwoomer’?”

”Oh yeah, yeah—she was a total ‘wate bwoomer’! We hit her due date and she still didn’t come out, and then—pop-pop-pop!—out she slipped…” I laughed.

I pressed my hand against Lily’s belly, enjoying the little kicks coming back at me, when up toddled Momo—my beloved daughter—who’d been running around screaming with laughter as her younger siblings chased her on all fours. She joined in the conversation, pressed her hand against Lily’s belly just like I had, then suddenly hugged it, buried her face in the fabric, looked up at me, and grinned, “Nyeh-heh~” So cute.

Following close behind Momo came my son Wakaba and daughter Mikan, crawling their way over, a common sight in our household these days—the under-one crawling race.

Mikan genuinely adores Momo and follows her around begging for attention. Wakaba, on the other hand, is usually chasing her because she pulled his ears and he’s mad about it. Considering that when he gets close she’ll just pull them again, you’d think he’d learn—but I guess he really does love his big sister deep down. So cute.

”Daddy, ‘wate bwoomer,’ wight?” Momo asked.

 ”Daddy…?” I blinked.

 ”Mmm—’daddy,’ ‘cowwect’! …Yay!” she chirped.

As I was lost in thought, Momo got rear-ended by Wakaba and Mikan crawling into her back and started saying something weird. But when I asked her back, she gave me an annoyed look, like “What are you talking about, Papa?”

Lily spoke up, her voice soft and deferential, “…Master, you’ve already decided this baby’s name?”

”No way—we haven’t even found out the gender yet, have we? Sure, it’s on the shortlist for if it’s a boy, but…” I trailed off.

If it’s a boy: “Tooru.” If it’s a girl: “Touka.” Those were the first choices for each gender. We’d already used “Momo” (Peach), so this time I used a different reading and added a little extra. They’re names that wouldn’t sound too out of place in this world either. But…

”I haven’t told anyone about this! It was just rattling around in my head.”

Lily tilted her head, “So she simply plucked it straight out of your head, then. Either that, or she can read minds, or…”

”…Momo, how did you know the baby’s name?” I asked in wonder.

”Hmm…? Daddy is ‘daddy’! ‘Cowwect’—yay!” Momo beamed.

Momo’s a mysterious child. It’s never been this clear before, but she’s always been sensitive to people’s feelings, sometimes sensing danger, and occasionally showing a surprisingly sharp mind.

”Baby is—’hurry weady’ baby!” Momo announced.

Now she was rubbing Satsuki’s belly, once again taking a tackle from Wakaba and Mikan as she said that—patting the belly, hugging and burying her face just like before, then turning to me and grinning, “Nyeh-heh~” So cute. …Wait.

”…She got it right again, didn’t she?” I muttered.

Satsuki raised an eyebrow, “This baby’s name? ‘Haccha’…”

”…’Hazuki.’ For either a boy or a girl. If they were due later, I was thinking ‘Nagatsuki’… but that’s a bit too unique, so I was still debating…” I admitted.

Satsuki’s eyes softened, “Those are Eastern names, aren’t they? You’ve been thinking about this for a while?”

”Yeah, well… for Satsuki’s child, it felt right…” I shrugged.

Satsuki’s grandfather apparently came from the East. I don’t know if that Eastern country resembles the place from my old world, but I felt a connection and had been thinking of names for her child.

Satsuki seemed delighted, rubbing her belly saying, “Hazuki-chan, huh…” But as the one who’d had my thoughts read so precisely, I was just confused. Why wasn’t Satsuki surprised at all?

”Hmm, well—Momo-chan is probably one of those children who can ‘see,’” Satsuki said, her aristocratic composure unbroken.

 ”‘See’…?” I echoed.

”Yes—future scenes, distant places. If she were reading our minds, she’d be talking about all sorts of other things. So it’s probably ‘future sight’ instead.”

”…Do children like that pop up around here often?” I asked.

Satsuki laughed, “Of course not! It’s a remarkable talent. She could be a prophet, a fortune-teller… or even a great mage or sage someday, who knows?”

I see. As a mage herself, Satsuki found it unusual but not earth-shattering. I’d studied magic enough to know such people existed—but they were mostly figures from legends and folklore. I never thought they were real, let alone that my own daughter would be one.

 ”Sage…?” Momo murmured.

Satsuki smiled, “Hehe, that’s right. ‘Great Sage Momo Harvest’—doesn’t that sound lovely?”

 ”Sage!” Momo cheered.

She didn’t seem to fully understand, but Momo was delighted to have her head patted by Satsuki. So cute.

That said, when I asked Satsuki for more details later, she mentioned that sometimes these powers fade as children grow. It might have been a temporary appearance during infancy, when senses are sharpest. That could be true.

Momo had other mysterious qualities too. This was probably just one part of her great potential. Still—whatever happened, as long as she grew up healthy, that was all that mattered. I’d put that thought aside for now.

”Mochama is AMAZING! That’s my daughter! Hope and salvation to all living creatures across the world! Mochama’s glory shall spread beyond the horizon!” I bellowed, scooping her into my arms.

”Mmm…? Huh…?” Momo blinked in confusion.

It’d been a while since I’d let my doting-dad energy out. Thanks to picking Momo up, I was now taking headbutts from Wakaba and Mikan in her stead—but I welcomed them with open arms. If anything, I wanted even more.

Satsuki chuckled, “Hehe. Hey, it’s fine to dote on your kids, but can you really afford to be so relaxed?”

 ”Huh?” I paused.

”Hazuki is a ‘hurry ready’ baby, right? Which means they might be born sooner rather than later…” she pointed out.

She had a point. I reluctantly set Momo down, gave her many kisses, and then ran off to make a delivery reservation with Miranda—Satsuki’s grandmother and the local midwife.

 —

 Summary:

The chapter opens with the protagonist reflecting on how his wives Marm and Suu have successfully conceived, leading to nostalgic reactions from his adventurer comrades and the Beast-person Association. The scene shifts to a cozy domestic moment with three pregnant wives lounging in the D**do-Buddy Palace, where the conversation turns to childbirth timing and the children’s names. The climax unfolds when Momo reveals her future sight ability by correctly guessing the names the protagonist had only thought of privately, culminating in a doting-dad outburst and a rushed trip to schedule a delivery reservation.

 —

 Trivia:

Momo possesses “future sight” ability (未来視), which allows her to see future scenes and distant places.

The children’s names follow a month-themed pattern: Satsuki (May), Hazuki (August), Nagatsuki (September), and Momo (Peach).

The protagonist was formerly an adventurer and considered Marm “completely out of my league” during those days.

Suu had been rejecting arranged marriage meetings, which worried Chromans at the Higuma Merchant Guild.

Carley, the Ancient Elf wife, is currently away at the Wielope Empire’s Imperial Palace, making her absent from the childbirth scene.

The protagonist uses “Mochama” as an affectionate nickname for Momo.

Satsuki’s grandfather came from the East, influencing the protagonist’s choice of Eastern names for their child.

The “D**do-Buddy Palace” appears to be a recurring location with a self-censored name.

Future sight abilities in children sometimes fade as they grow older, according to Satsuki’s explanation.

Wakaba and Mikan are both under one year old and regularly engage in crawling races with Momo.

Notes:

• Marm – An attractive, red-haired, tanned Adventurer’s Guild receptionist with a stunning figure and Mirajane Strauss-like looks. She is the protagonist Kento’s wife, though she was once an unattainable adventurer colleague. Kind and supportive, she acts like a “big sister” figure.

• Suu – A cat beast-person wearing glasses and a tight suit, she is the protagonist’s wife and Sample No. 19 in Kento’s report. She works at the Higuma Merchant Guild, serves as the secretary for the Royal Capital Beast-person Mutual Aid Association, and steps up as the first witness for the defense.

• Chromans – President of the Royal Capital Beast-person Mutual Aid Association and the Higuma Merchant Guild, a top-tier weapons dealer. Powerful, influential, and business-savvy, this employer of Suu uniquely uses feminine formal speech. He has a large, muscular build hidden under an expensive gown, bushy sooty brown hair and beard, and round, cute bear ears.

• Flearis – A pale, pink-haired covert unit member serving as a diplomatic envoy, guard, shopkeeper, and Coalmine Kingdom liaison. The protagonist’s relative—Lily’s sister and Martin’s younger foster sister/sister-in-law—she displays a cold, vengeful pragmatism, notably when reporting Lily’s words to Martin. Though only mentioned, she is noted as next in line for mating season.

• Kushe – Kento’s companion and Coalmine’s head Court Mage, this blunt, deadpan woman has haphazard dark green hair and a loose robe. Elegant in combat, she delivers reality checks, leaks secrets, breeds Nixfen monsters, complains about her knees, and is bewildered by Kento’s slime yet next in line for his mating season. She joins a group learning to act spoiled toward him but is otherwise only mentioned.

• Satsuki – Miranda’s granddaughter is a robed court mage and former top Academy student with long black hair and mixed Western-Eastern features. Now a Harvest Love-Mage at the Ddo-Buddy Palace, she is the protagonist’s playful, warm wife and mother to Hazuki and Nagatsuki. She orchestrates family conversations, tutors her husband, assists in prototype design, and is friends with pregnant Amelia.

• Lily – Jin’s pink-haired, blue-eyed love-slave, secret magic user, and wife/concubine pregnant with her second child. Calling the protagonist “Master” (who calls her a wanton), she is a Harvest shop slave and test subject resembling Nada. Energetic and expressive with V-signs, she tends the mansion garden, watches repairs, and informs him on domestic and political matters.

• Amelia – A voluptuous, light-blue-haired “Saint” Sister of the Canarias convent who runs soup kitchens, this shy, blushing religious figure is the protagonist Kento’s wife. Pregnant with his child after a sacred conception and wearing his ring, her intimate bond and controversial marriage to him spark intense ecclesiastical debate, yet she remains as devoted as ever.

• Miranda – Granny Miranda is an elderly, witch-like midwife with silver hair and a weathered cloak. The widow of Tadayasu, she is grandmother to Satsuki, great-grandmother to Hazuki, and a shared mentor to the narrator and Barbara. She masters magic medicine to monitor unborn babies. Beneath her gruff exterior and old-fashioned rural speech lies a tender warmth.

• Carley – Ancient Elf Haha-sama is the youthful, flat-chested, pregnant Captain of the Wielope Empire and the protagonist’s beloved wife. A pragmatic matriarch and companion to Harvest, she oversees palace assassins and royals like Dee-bou and Gustav. Currently kept out of political discussions with the prince and only mentioned at the Imperial Palace, she uses her magic resistance and stamina to steer diplomacy.

• Momo – Exceptionally cute and energetic, this pink-haired, one-year-old toddler is the eldest daughter of the protagonist (Jin) and Lily, and sibling to Wakaba and Mikan. Inheriting her father’s ear and eyebrow shape, she is affectionate, babbles with toddler mispronunciations, and loves walking in the garden. Remarkably, she also possesses the ability of future sight.

• Wakaba – The newborn half-elf son of Kento and Tania, and sibling to Momo and Mikan. An infant magic user with large Mana Circuits, green hair, squishy cheeks, and soft floppy elf ears. He emits magical discharges during tantrums and often chases Momo after she pulls his ears.

• Mikan – Kento’s orange-themed newborn daughter and the protagonist’s/shopkeeper’s child. She is an infant with a cheerful, oblivious expression. She is the sibling to Momo and Wakaba. She adores Momo and follows her everywhere.

• Hazuki – Job: Infant; Relationship: Daughter to Narrator and Satsuki; Great-granddaughter to Miranda; Appearance: Black hair like father, distinctly Eastern facial features; Note: Newborn, first of narrator’s children born with his hair color.
