”Seriously… calling me out at this time of night… what now?”
The new king said this, sounding grumpy and a bit dazed since he had been woken up.
”Earlier, several thieves broke into the castle, and 2 of Your Majesty’s guards were killed.”
When General Naskinpos reported this, the new king was fully awake now.
”What!? What happened to the thieves!?”
”I’m sorry. It seems they knew the hidden passages in the castle. They escaped, except for 2, but our general is searching hard for them now.”
”Hmph. They must be Asuka’s people. Did they come to stab me in the back?”
”No, actually… it seems they were heading for the gate room. The two we caught are a human female and what looks like her child. We’re questioning them now, and I believe we can give you more details by tomorrow.”
”Huh? A human female and a child? My guards were taken down by that?
And about the gate… oh, right, General. I heard you were planning to secretly deal with those involved with the gate. You probably messed up and let them slip away, and now that info got out. So, humans wanting to return to their world came in… haha, that’s a good one!”
”This is no laughing matter. The ones who attacked the guards were dressed as royal guards. Why would such skilled people target the gate with humans…? Could it be that they feared Your Majesty might seek asylum…?”
”Hmph, stop joking. Even if I were to lose to Asuka, I wouldn’t run away like that. I thought the gate was left for the military’s escape.”
The general fell silent at the king’s words.
”Interesting. I want to see that human mother and child. Bring them here, I don’t mind.”
”That’s not a good idea, Your Majesty. That human, despite being one, was able to speak with us normally without needing a priest to translate. They might be a spy for Princess Asuka.”
Suddenly, something big might happen here…

I let go of the hand.
I shouldn’t have let go of that hand.
I couldn’t breathe, and I was just desperate.
As I was swept away by the water, I panicked and grabbed onto something like a pipe, holding on tight until the water receded.
Karin on my back was completely still, and I hurried to untie the straps, but they were wet and stiff. I didn’t care that my nails were about to come off; I struggled to loosen them, and somehow, I managed to get them free.
”Karin. Karin…”
I shook her, but there was no response. It seemed like she wasn’t breathing.
I quickly slapped her cheeks, and she coughed out dirty water with a “guhh” and started crying loudly.
”Oh… thank goodness…”
But before I could relax, I heard footsteps rushing toward us.
”Karin. Please, don’t cry… I’m sorry…”
Akari desperately tried to comfort Karin, but soon we were surrounded by guards.
We were taken into a dim little room with just a small table and chairs, and Karin was taken away by a lady-in-waiting. I was questioned by a well-mannered Elf soldier, being careful not to touch too much on the people from this world, and I honestly told them how I ended up here. I’m not good at lying.
If I tried to cover things up, it was clear I’d be caught and cornered…
Eventually, the questioning took a break, and I was told to wait here for a while. As I dozed off in the dim room, I was woken by a voice. They treated my torn nails, and I got Karin back. She must have cried herself out because she was sound asleep.
”Come. The new king wants to question you personally.”
”Huh, the new king?”
The new king refers to that Prince Aaron, who was in love with Aaa-aaa and replaced the first prince?
What will they ask me? But then again, I don’t know anything about Aaa-aaa’s plans… Well, I do know when X-Day is…
Anyway, it’s not smart to make a bad impression here.
It’s one thing if it’s just me, but Karin is with me too.

”Oh, it’s this parent and child… Hey human. Looks like your family abandoned you and ran away. How sad. This kid’s dad is a useless guy, huh?”
It was the first time seeing the new king, and he was surprisingly young and handsome.
Akari thought she should stand firm so she wouldn’t feel shy.
”Yuuta isn’t like that… um. It’s a strategic retreat! Or something like that!”

The new king looked down at the general with a smug face, as if to say, “See that?”
”And, it’s definitely Asuka who helped you with that.”
”…Yes. Without the princess’s support, I couldn’t have entered the castle.”
”Seriously, why is Asuka helping these humans? I mean, it’s clear there are people in the castle who are with Asuka… well, I have a good idea who they are… Hey, human girl. What’s your name?”
”Akari… and this is Karin.”
”So, Akari. Do you want to go back to your hometown? What if I said I’d let you and Karin use the gate right now? After that, I’ll destroy the gate, so the rest of your family that abandoned you will never return to their original world… what do you think?”
”Your Majesty, what are you testing us for? There’s no point in going back if we’re not all together!”
”Is that so? Your husband abandoned you and left here.”
”That’s what I said earlier… But, maybe it would be better for Yuuta and Tomori…”
The new king didn’t miss the change in Akari’s attitude.
”Oh? Tell me more about that reason.”
Akari remembered that in her original world, Yuuta and their daughter Tomori had made a promise to be together.
They had struggled to live after drifting into this world due to a gate experiment, and love had blossomed, leading to the birth of Karin.
She realized that Tomori had also been swept into this world around the same time, and she felt bad for making her feel lonely all this time.
Although Akari had no doubts about her feelings for Yuuta, she explained to the new king that if Yuuta and Tomori could be happy together, it wouldn’t be so bad for her to step back due to outside circumstances.
At first, the new king listened quietly, but she could see he was getting more excited as she spoke. She thought, “Is it bad to keep talking like this? But I can’t pretend!”
Suddenly, the new king stood up and shouted loudly.
”Isn’t that just the same as this world?!”

Akari was surprised and didn’t understand what the new king meant, but it seemed like the general and the attendants around him were also confused and shocked.
Noticing their reactions, the new king seemed to come back to himself, sat down again, and fell silent.

After a while, the new king spoke up.
”…I can’t believe that gate created such a scandalous and immoral situation. Humans are truly something… Enough, let these two go. Just… oh, they don’t need to be in a cell, give them a room in the back.”

The general officer Naskinpos said in surprise.
”I don’t care. Let’s see what this Yuuta guy does from now on… I’ll watch closely…”
After that, Akari and Karin were taken by a lady-in-waiting to wash in the bath and change into clean clothes. When they entered the room, it wasn’t very big, but it was nicely furnished like a guest room.
The lady-in-waiting said she would take care of Karin until morning.

The lady-in-waiting hugged Karin and left the room, saying:

Akari’s pleas fell on deaf ears, and soon the new king entered the room.

Akari steeled herself, standing naked before the new king. He gazed at her body, taking in every inch.
”Hmph. As expected of a human. You have a voluptuous and seductive body that you won’t find among elves. Even your daughter’s lover would’ve been smitten.”
”Please don’t say it like that. Our hearts connected first, and our bodies followed after.”
”I see. In that case, I’ll start with connecting our bodies…”
The new king placed his hand on Akari’s stomach and slowly slid it downwards.
Akari closed her eyes and stiffened, enduring the touch.
Just as his hand was about to reach her private area, the new king suddenly burst out laughing.
”Haha! Sorry, sorry. I’ve seen the resolve of a mother up close.”

Akari had no idea what was happening.
