Volume 3 Chapter 24 The Three Great Tribes Of The Continent

 Puruun’s POV

The Emperor and Major Artemis went directly to Ms. Norca’s house. Anyway, their subordinates probably think their boss is just having fun with me, so if they’re back by morning, it won’t be a problem.

”I see. In the Capital, the feudal lords work together in a council. It’s lucky this doesn’t cause big problems for the country, but I’m becoming less important,” the Emperor said, smiling at themselves.

”So, Major, why is the Imperial Guard here again? If it’s to help with the Spirit Clan attack, there should be other armies too. Is it because the Emperor isn’t here anymore and you’ve been reassigned?”

”Secretary, you’re touching on a sensitive topic. General Peacock says he’s moving troops to rescue the Emperor, but many high-ranking officials think he’s secretly trying to deal with the Emperor. Since the Emperor isn’t here, the general is in charge, and we have to follow his orders. So, revealing the Emperor’s existence and issuing commands again…”

”It’s still dangerous. If General Peacock’s real goal is to remove Emperor Balmstra, just showing up casually would be the end. From my view, it’s best to first rescue Duke Suicelma, or if he’s dead, find a rightful successor and make them an ally. Then, we can normalize this area and send the palace guard back to the capital—that would be the right way to do it.”

”Yes, Miss Puruun. Artemis, do you know where Duke Suicelma is?”

”I can’t say for sure. But there are many mysteries about General Peacock’s actions. He’s building a large military base near the western river to show restraint toward the Spirit Clan, but I also hear rumors of negotiations, possibly with the Spirit Clan. I don’t know if it’s for a prisoner exchange, but maybe because of that, the Spirit Clan hasn’t attacked further.”

”It seems we still don’t have enough power. Should we wait for Catherine to return, Miss Puruun?”

”Yes, Your Majesty. For now, Major, since you’ve sworn loyalty to us, please help gather more information. I work at Tanuki-Tei almost every day, so if anything happens, that’s the place. You can even tell your subordinates that I’ve become your mistress—then it’s fine for us to meet without issues.”

”Haha… Chief Secretary, you’re really a good woman. Seriously, shall we do it once?”

”Hey, Artemis. Should I send a letter to your wife right now?”

”No, Your Majesty. Please forgive me for that…”

 Reina’s POV

Reina has ridden flying dragons several times, but this one is much bigger than usual. With smaller ones, Ishe ride on their backs, but this one has a large basket, and both people and luggage are packed inside. Below, a vast forest stretches out, and just ahead, she can see an open area where a town is located. That must be Moniera. Further west, the landscape blends with coniferous forests and reddish-brown desert-like ground. Ah, that must be where the Spirit Clan lives now.

”Lieutenant Reina, we’ll be arriving soon. Please take a seat and fasten your seatbelt, just in case.”

Soon, the flying dragon landed gently, and the basket Reina was in was placed on the ground without any shock.

”Second Lieutenant, I’ll guide you to the dormitory first. Please follow me.” Guided by the soldier, Reina entered a newly built building. This must be the research building for the new gate. Only the structure is complete, and the main equipment hasn’t arrived yet. Once everything is in place, the gate hidden somewhere will be moved here, and the batteries Zaharu mentioned will also be brought in. First, Reina must prepare to welcome the gate.

The next morning, during breakfast, Reina saw the flying dragon they had ridden on return to the imperial capital. When she asked the soldiers, they said they were making round trips with one night of rest. It must be a regular service. But here… isn’t it unusually close to the Spirit Clan’s territory? How does the military plan to use this as a warning? They wouldn’t bring a large force from the human world as soon as the gate opens, would they? Also, being so far into the wilderness, it would be hard to communicate often with Zerlant. Though, as long as letters reach the imperial capital, they should be secretly passed to Queen Asuka…

A month later, Zaharu arrived by flying dragon.

”Hey Zaharu, you came too? And with such a big load.”

”Ah, Lieutenant, good work. Is the gate room ready?”

”Of course. We can control the mana inside the room as soon as anything is brought in.”

 ”That’s good. Then… move it!”

At Zaharu’s command, the soldiers began moving the large load.

 ”Hey Zaharu, could that be…?”

”Yes, it’s the gate. It was hard to hide everything at the previous location, but here, I can leave it out in the open.”

”Out in the open… but this is Suicelma territory, right? Is that okay?”

”Yes. The Duke of Suicelma is currently absent, and General Peacock is in charge.”

Reina couldn’t fully understand the power dynamics between the military and the nobles, but she knew it was a complex situation.

The gate was installed in the underground gate room of the research building, and the equipment and magical tools Reina had prepared were working well. In fact, they were probably better than those in the Elf’s Royal Palace. If only the batteries were ready, they could start fixing things on the other side right away. If that happened soon… she thought for a moment that, like Stanford, she might just jump in immediately. But wait. It would be better to prepare the tags in advance. Entering the coordinates on the other side wouldn’t take much effort…

Thinking this, she quickly started making the tags.
