”It’s amazing, papa! You’re making electricity with the river to heat the rubber tree house. And even though you hurt the trunks like that, the trees are doing just fine…”
Shushuria was learning about the rubber manufacturing process, her eyes sparkling with a child’s boundless curiosity. I reflected on how truly wonderful it was to show scenes like this to her, given that she likely rarely ventures outside the Royal Palace ¹. I also had her help with the apple harvest, as they were perfectly in season, and so a peaceful day with the daughter I’d just met for the first time drifted by.
”Phew! That was fun! The apples were delicious, weren’t they?”
Even after returning to the manor, Shushuria remained completely delighted, though the day’s activities had clearly taken their toll. Once she finished her dinner, she looked quite ready to drop off to sleep.
”Now then, Shushuria. You’re exhausted from today, aren’t you? Why don’t you take a bath and head to the bedroom with Ms. Sharlin?” I suggested, but her response was immediate.
”I want to take a bath with papa! I want to sleep in the same bed together!”
”Wait, hold on a second. That… that would be a bit of a problem for me…” Yuuta said.
”But why? I was looking forward to this so much… Papa, do you hate my Watashi no things?” Shushuria asked, her expression turning terribly sorrowful.
”No… it’s not that at all…” I stammered, at a complete loss for words, until Lady Beyond stepped in to answer for me.
”Princess. Yuutapapa is simply feeling shy because you’re just so incredibly adorable. He’s probably embarrassed because he’s not used to being seen naked by you yet, Princess. Rest assured, he loves you dearly, so please don’t tease him too much.”
”…Is that true?” Shushuria asked, eyeing me with a hint of skepticism.
”Ah, yeah. That’s right… I’m love you! I love you so much. But, clinging to each other in the bath or in bed is just a little embarrassing for me…”
”I see. If that’s how it is, I suppose it can’t be helped… but, could you at least give me a kiss on the cheek?”
”Oh. Well, if it’s just that…” I said, leaning in to give Shushuria a light kiss on her right cheek.
”Well then, Princess. Let us proceed to the bath,” Ms. Sharlin said, guiding Shushuria out of the room.
”Phew… Lady Beyond. Thank you for the rescue,” I sighed.
”Oh, honestly. She really is your biological daughter, you know. You could have just shared a bath with her.”
”No. If she were a toddler, that would be one thing, but to suddenly have her appear before me with that stature… even if I understand the situation logically, I just can’t bring myself to…”
”Do you find yourself feeling lustful?” Lady Beyond asked.
”No! Of course it’s not something as ridiculous as that…”
”There’s no need to force a brave face, Mr. Yuuta. You’re likely just far too pent up. That’s why you’re having such strange delusions about your own daughter.”
”…You’re being quite severe today, Lady Beyond,” I replied.
”That’s why—you should share a bed with me tonight instead!”
”What!? You’re bringing it back to that? I told you, I can’t. I’m not allowed to be intimate with women anymore! Sir Aaron has strictly forbidden it!”
”Oh, don’t be like that. It’s perfectly fine. I’ve already prepared a countermeasure.” With a knowing smile, Lady Beyond pulled something out of her bag.
”Wait, what is that?” Yuuta asked.
”Hehe. Actually, this is a prototype crafted by the Melon Research Institute ². I’ve taken custody of it, you see.”
I stared at the object handed to me, completely stunned. Whoa. This is… it’s one of those, isn’t it?
”Um, Lady Beyond. Is this… one of those… things men wear… a contraceptive?”
”Precisely, Mr. Yuuta. I caught wind that MelMel was secretly developing this, so I called in some old favors to ‘persuade’ her into letting me have it. She finally succeeded in the manufacturing process now that your rubber is being harvested. With this, you can share a bed without the worry of pregnancy, so Sir Aaron won’t have any grounds to complain, right?”
”No, but still…” Yuuta said.
”What are you even saying, Mr. Yuuta! Have you given any thought to how MelMel felt while making this? It’s not just her, either. PurPur, EllEll… and even me and ClaCla for that matter… Do you realize just how unfaithful you’re being to us women!? This is a joint effort between husband and wife, made with the rubber you cultivated and MelMel’s tireless work. Use it with gratitude!”
”Ah, yes. My apologies…”
”Ah, papa! We’ve finished our bath!”
Just then, Shushuria and Ms. Sharlin returned, their timing impeccable. I had been on the verge of being completely overwhelmed by Lady Beyond. I don’t think she has any right to lecture me to that extent… and yet, if I consider Melon’s feelings, I can’t exactly dismiss it as a joke. It’s not just Melon; I’ve been neglectful toward Puruun and Ellulu for so long, and I truly feel terrible for the ladies. And Ms. Akari as well… next time I see them, I need to face them properly.
That night, fortunately, there was no surprise raid from Lady Beyond. The following morning, the three of them departed for the Royal Capital ³.

Inside the carriage bound for the Royal Capital, Sharlin struck up a conversation with Beyond.
”So, Lady Beyond. Did you actually get to test that item with Yuuta?”
”No, ShaSha. I couldn’t bring myself to be the first one to use it while leaving MelMel and the others behind. But because of that, Mr. Yuuta should now understand that Sir Aaron’s shackles have been broken. I hope that next time those girls see him, they can all finally be happy.”
”Goodness… it felt more like you extorted it from Ms. Melon, so I was a little concerned. But if you’ve truly conveyed her feelings to Yuuta, then I suppose I can let it slide,” Sharlin said.
”Oh, don’t be such a bore, ShaSha. You’re far too serious. Matters between men and women are all about the mood. You should have just taken the opportunity to use that contraceptive and had a little fun with Mr. Yuuta yourself.”
”What kind of nonsense are you spouting!?” Sharlin shouted, her face turning a vivid shade of crimson.
”Hey, Lady Beyond. What’s a contraceptive?”
Suddenly, Shushuria, who everyone thought was asleep, chimed in from the seat beside them.
”Oh dear. Princess, you were awake? It’s nothing at all, so please don’t let it bother you,” Beyond replied smoothly.
”Ehh, if you say it like that, I’m even more curious. Is it one of those ‘adult’ stories? If you won’t tell me, I’ll just ask Grandma Akari when we get home.”
”Wait, Princess! Anything but that, please!” Beyond cried out.

Summary:
