Chapter 67 Interlude – Building the Ryuuin Family Legacy
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I sat at the table, surrounded by my family, as the Family Meeting kicked off. Yaten, our leader, stood tall, her voice ringing with authority. “Let’s begin. Tonight’s topic: the name of our house, the one that’ll define who we are!”
The living room felt alive with everyone gathered around the table. Yaten took charge, guiding the discussion, while my daughters, Sakuya and Uigetsu, along with Void Dragon and Water Princess Mizuki [T/N: Mizuki, a title for a divine water spirit], joined me—six of us in total. The agenda was huge: choosing a house name to show the world what we stand for. Yaten even dragged out a whiteboard from who-knows-where to make it official.
Mizuki, serving tea to everyone, raised her hand, asking Yaten for permission to speak. “Go ahead, Mizuki,” Yaten said, nodding.
”As a house honoring the Evil Dragon, shouldn’t you, Yaten-sama, our divine leader, decide the name?” Mizuki asked, her voice soft but curious.
Yaten smirked. “I’ve got a name in mind, but this house is about making the Evil Dragon’s bloodline thrive. That means Sakuya, Uigetsu, and Void Dragon need to have a say. Besides, deciding it all myself would be boring.”
Mizuki’s shoulders slumped. “Then I guess I don’t have much to add…”
The moment the meeting started, Mizuki found herself sidelined. She’s family, sure, but not part of the bloodline meant to carry the Evil Dragon’s legacy, so her role here was small. I raised my hand, catching Yaten’s eye, and jumped in. “So, what’s the name you’re thinking of?”
”Ryuuin Family!” Yaten declared, her voice booming. “It combines Evil Dragon and your name, Master. It’s perfect for a house meant to make our bloodline flourish.” [T/N: Ryuuin, from “ryuu” (dragon) and “in” (inji), symbolizing dragon descendants.]
A house sowing dragon seeds. The name fit us perfectly—a family driven by the fierce desire to grow and multiply, bound by the Evil Dragon’s bloodline. Yaten, Sakuya, Uigetsu, even Void Dragon—they all craved not just children but a thriving legacy. The name Ryuuin Family mirrored that drive, clear as day.
No one objected. Silence meant agreement. Still, Yaten, knowing this name would shape our future, double-checked. “Sakuya, any issues?”
Sakuya, stroking her belly through her cherry blossom-colored kimono, smiled warmly. “None. It’s a fitting name for a house where Father’s and the Evil Dragon’s bloodline—my child—will thrive.” Her eyes locked onto mine, burning with love, as if her soul itself had fallen for me. That sly, devilish grin of hers, hands resting on her pregnant stomach, said it all.
Yaten turned to Uigetsu. “And you?”
Uigetsu stood, hands on hips, her tailcoat sharp and striking. “Nope! As Father’s loyal butler, I’m happy as long as our family grows!” Her chest puffed out, full of pride, her energy practically bursting. The child in her womb seemed to pulse with the same lively spirit, both mother and baby radiating health and vigor. With a playful smirk, Uigetsu tapped her stomach, brimming with excitement for what’s to come.
Finally, Yaten looked to Void Dragon. “Your turn.”
”Ryuuin Family… it’s perfect,” Void Dragon said, her childish voice soft but firm. “It shows Master Inji’s bloodline will grow. I can’t wait to have lots and lots of children!” Her small hand rested gently on her stomach, her golden eyes gleaming like a predator’s, fixed on me. Despite her tiny frame, her drive to bear children was unmatched, a relentless instinct with no brakes. As a clone of the world-destroying Evil Dragon, she inherited Yaten’s passion but lacked any self-control. Her womb, a cradle for eternal life, hungered to create without end.
Yaten clapped her hands, the sound echoing like a dry explosion. “No objections, then. It’s settled!” Her voice carried the weight of an Evil Dragon’s authority as she wrote “Ryuuin Family” on the whiteboard in bold, elegant strokes. The old Shiryuin Clan, steeped in a thousand years of tradition, was crumbling. In its place, our house would rise to make the Evil Dragon’s bloodline soar.
”From now on, our name is Ryuuin!” Yaten proclaimed, her voice brimming with dominance. “Let it burn into your hearts and souls!” Her words sank deep, filling us with purpose. Sakuya and Uigetsu wore determined looks, Void Dragon glowed with the pure joy of having a family, and even Mizuki couldn’t hide her excitement. The rise of the Evil Dragon’s bloodline was a chance to fix the warped bond between gods and humans, a spark to change a breaking world. Overwhelmed, Mizuki knelt, as if worshipping the family before her.
This was the true start of the Ryuuin Family. Next, we’d dismantle the Shiryuin Clan and tackle Mizuki’s concerns about the Heaven and Earth Reversal issue once things settled. But the challenges piled high. To establish our house, we needed to define Yaten’s role as our divine figure, navigate the public world and the exorcist world, and balance political power games to secure our influence.
Yaten’s power could shatter worlds, her cunning beauty enough to topple nations. But with that kind of influence comes a mountain of trouble. I could already picture the endless stream of dignitaries—tens of thousands, no doubt—lining up to pay their respects. As someone who’s been swamped playing guardian to a nation, I knew exactly how exhausting that would be for her.
If we’re to honor Yaten as our deity, the kids need to start training for divine roles. The Ryuuin Family will become a lineage of priests serving the Evil Dragon. That means learning the ropes of running a shrine, each with their own duties. It’s a perfect chance for Sakuya, Uigetsu, and Void Dragon to step out from the narrow world of the Underground Temple and into the vast one above. I want them to soak up every experience, to grow through it.
Lost in these thoughts, I watched Yaten passionately address the family, her words lighting up the room. Then, out of nowhere, she turned to me. “To make our bloodline thrive, we must first nourish the fetuses, Master.”
I blinked, caught off guard. “Wait… you mean I have to… embrace everyone now?”
The room shifted. Sakuya, Uigetsu, and Void Dragon locked their eyes on me, their gazes sharp and hungry, like beasts eyeing prey. Their unborn children seemed to stir with joy, sensing a treat. Sakuya and Uigetsu stroked their bellies, licking their lips at the chance to be held by their father. Void Dragon’s young face flushed with a seductive glow, her reproductive instincts clearly stirred.
Yaten grinned. “The fetuses are hungry, so it’s your duty as their father to fill their wombs with the finest seed.”
”Hold on!” I protested. “Even with you joining in, handling four at once is—”
She laughed, a sly, mischievous sound. “Oh, it’s not just four, Master. Including the fetuses, you’ll embrace all eight of us. A fine way to encircle the Evil Dragon’s bloodline, don’t you think?” [T/N: Encircle, a playful reference to creating a harem bound by the bloodline.]
The Ryuuin Family exists to make the Evil Dragon’s bloodline flourish. And with those words, the weight of our legacy—and its demands—settled firmly on my shoulders.
